The Audi A6 allroad air Suspension goes one step higher then shown in the offroad mode in this video. The way to do it is to select offroad mode, then touch one time in the raise column(where you see the height column). Thats the way to unlock the fifth height increase. In this video the allroad is in height mode 4 of total 5(where 5 is the highest level). Winter tires, little more height and throttle would have helped alot with this quattro🙂. I have own severel, and they are truly great offroad wagons 👍 Test the Audi E-Tron S with three motors and good winter tires, truly a beast offroad and especially on dynamic winter driving (ice track with studded tires😎).. But remember the height column after you select offroad for best clearance in the wild. I personally own the E-Tron S tri motor and it is awesome in the snow and ice😎 Best regards from Norway(Hard winters)

Snow tests should include the vehicle's ability to make multiple stops on the uphill and downhill stages. Real-world snowy road conditions have the driver sharing the road with cars that "get stuck" and have to back down or otherwise be avoided by the test 4x4. Tommy implied that the conventional torque converter is much better than a dual clutch system @8:29. Can you guys elaborate more on that please.
@viccao84312 жыл бұрын
i believe that torque converters are better transmitting higher loads of engine power to the wheels and are smoother compared to the super fast but jerkier dual clutch that also tends to heat up faster in offroad conditions
@-Jethro-2 жыл бұрын
The root of the issue is that these vehicles don’t have a low range gear set for off road use. In order for vehicles without a low range to climb steep hills at slow speeds, it is necessary for the engine to spin faster than the transmission. The torque converter is a fluid coupling which allows this to happen pretty much indefinitely, as any excess heat can be dumped into the transmission cooler. As an added bonus, the torque converter trades rpm for lower gearing while it’s doing this. A DCT must slip the clutch, which can only be done for short periods before the heat and wear become problematic. (If there was such a thing as a DCT with a low range transfer case then it would work fine, just like a 4x4 Jeep with a manual transmission) Real world example: After a camping trip with friends, we had to drive out up a very steep, rough dirt road. My friend with a 2wd Ranger with a manual transmission and highway gears in the rear end couldn’t make it up the hill. His choices were either go way too fast in first gear, which would cause the truck the bounce off of everything, causing damage and losing traction, or to go slower by slipping the clutch the whole way up, but this overheated the clutch to the point that it smoked and no longer gripped at all. That’s essentially how the DCT would work. My other friend with an automatic + torque converter pulled him up the hill without any issues. (And my Bronco with a manual transmission plus low range simply idled up the hill because the gearing allowed it) So then why do DCTs exist? Because they’re smaller, lighter, faster, and more efficient than a torque converter when used in the right environment (ie performance cars driving on pavement).
@cue032 жыл бұрын
@@-Jethro- Thanks for the response. I thought many of the AWD systems in SUVs utilize some sort of clutch system. So in the scenario you mentioned the X-Pro Kia would “perform” better than say a iVTM4 Honda Passport/Pilot, or even the “symmetrical” AWD Subarus, we can even throw the Volvo Haldex system into the mix? I am going to have expand my knowledge on more AWD systems with torque converter.
@ckrull862 жыл бұрын
@@cue03 most if not all awd systems use wet clutches instead of dry clutches. Dry clutches should be treated as an on/off switch for transmission of power and not slipped to prevent premature wear or overheating. Wet clutches can and will slip the transmission of power with little to no wear on the clutch plates.

Tommy hits the gas so hard in the Telluride. If it had snow tires and he took it steady getting some speed up on the low part of the hill, it would be no problem. I've done a similar trail before in my X-Pro. Also don't worry about the snow in the center, it will just glide on it. It helps to have the skid plate option installed on the Telluride because it smooths out the rough snow chunks as you go and gives warning in case you hit anything too rough. Just saw the other guy do pretty much what I was saying to do but in the Land Rover. It's possible.

Very similar to the defender probably.

Piece of cake if you modify or get rid of that dumb front air damn

Maybe try a q5 or q8.

You'd want an SQ5 with the air suspension and sport diff. SQ5 has the original Quattro rather than Ultra and has a conventional gearbox rather than the dual clutch in the normal Q5.

A better comparison would be with all 3 vehicles on snow rated tires. Odd to only give the real off-roader the best tires for snow.
