What the 2024 TRD Pro should have been. Perfect truck Chevy

I do really like both, but in the TRDs defense, it already comes with more power and torque, and similar performance with smaller tires. I’d be curious to see a TRD Pro with 35s like the Bison.

I think back 25ish years ago when the first ZR2's came out in the S10 platform.. to run 35" tires you needed a 6" suspension lift and it would still rub. Plus, the front end was not strong enough, you were constantly replacing ball joints and axle half shafts. It cost a lot to run 35's back then. Now. Here is a truck from the factory with 35's and a warranty! So awesome..

At only 4x the cost of that original Zr2. Jeep wranglers prior to 2007 cane with 30" tires. I had a 2006 wrangler sport and had to put a 3" lift just to barely fit 32s

Yep. True. Tires are THE number one thing that adds capability to a vehicle. Does not matter how much is spent on components. Slap 35s on a Honda civic and it will go anywhere. lol

I've had my Bison for about a month and they really made a special vehicle here. It's not just great offroad. I would have thought with those chunky tires that it would be deafening loud on pavement but it's surprisingly quiet. It's really a swiss army knife of trucks.

The Colorado Bison would be perfect with the LZ0 Duramax and getting rid of the yellow interior stitching and urban camo panels (seriously who approved that?) then add in an option for a power rear slider commonly available or as an option in most trucks now. AEV is an awesome company here in my home state of Michigan. They built my 2012 Jeep Wrangler which handles way better than it did when it was stock. This seems like they are doing the same as the old generation Colorado Bison. Bumpers, skid plates, embroidered head rests, wheels and finally 35" tires. The lift i'm guessing comes from the 35" tires over the 33" factory ZR2 tires. Please tell me what they did with the suspension. Did they change out the front coil springs with their progressive rate coils? Larger block under the rear leaf springs? are they the same factory rear springs? Aluminum knuckles still there? Why not re-gear it to 4.11 or 4.56 to offset the 35" tires. Turbo engine probably could use a heat reduction hood with functional venting. Rock rails are the factory ones that are bolted to the body, not the frame correct? Love your channel and your reviews but i want more technical stuff explained. For $10,000 you should get more than what this offers.

If you're going to use these trucks the way they're meant to be used then you're going to eventually want the winch capable bumper and skid plates. But if you're just wanting to look cool in the parking lot then don't worry about it.

@@PeakDecline I get that, but a lot of that you can do yourself, makes it less expensive than through them, plus I’m not crazy with the placement of the spare tire. So I’m already looking at a new bumper so I can have a swing gate for the spare. I mean I love what they did, but it comes down to price. The 2022 bison on the Colorado was about $5500/6k, the dessert boss is almost 10k, now the bison is $8500 on the 1500 and $9400 on the heavy duty. If it’s around $6/7k it’s something I will think about, but the ZR2 is very very capable as is. Only a few grand can really make it into something cool.

@@Livestrong00782 I'm just talking from experience here. I owned a 2019 ZR2, I own a 2022 Gladiator Rubicon now for reference. I modified my ZR2 to run 35s, bought and installed my own front and rear bumper and skid plates. In the end it cost me more than what just buying the Bison package would have from factory. Why? Because good high quality bumpers are expensive up front and they cost a lot to ship to your house. Front bumper? $1500. Skid plates? $1500-$2000. Rear bumper? $1200-$3000 (if you want it to have a tire carrier). Jounce shocks? GM wants nearly $1700 for a set of DSSV jounce shocks. Tires and wheels? $2500-$3000. So... yeah no way you can actually replicate this for cheaper in the after market. At least without really cheaping out on parts or leaving out important aspects of the package. Assuming this comes in around $60-$63K... I think its a really good value. Very high quality parts and keeps your factory warranty.

@@PeakDecline I agree 100%, but I think depends on the price point that they’re going to list for, you have to remember the old bison package was far less expensive and I wouldn’t have hesitated on the 2022 or older. The factory warranty is definitely a plus, but if I’m not going to be using it that hardcore, I will be using it, but probably not as hardcore as it is intended for. Then it might not be worth it, just really need Chevy to release the price point, they have it released for the 2024 for both the light and heavy duty, but not the Colorado. I was really hoping to keep it around $58k, $50k for the ZR2 and the rest for the bison, I do wish the bison had a little more in power, no such thing as a perfect rig right? Ha ha

@@PeakDecline just buy some 6061 Aluminum n TIG weld ur own heavy duty front n back bumpers with winches, swing out tailgate, jerry can n water carrier, bed cage n rooftop tent, rock rails and skid plates! I could do all that all for less than $4000 USD of high strength metal. I could cut and weld all that together in just a weekend!

Why they still went with the leaf spring is unideal for an off-roading condition. Coil spring would've been the better choice. This truck definitely has the potential for serious off-roading. Hope GM swap out the leaf spring to a coil spring. Overall, it has the proper look and features. More power and torque could be better improve. The V6 just seems like the proper engine for this midsize truck.

No they don’t. only on the Chevy. I think the GMC would have been crazy expensive if they added them. I think GM wanted to make the Chevy the true off roader, gmc is more luxury.

Regarding comment on washboard. Washboard sucks……..that being said smoothest ride ever on washboard when I owned a 2004 Range Rover. It was beast off-road outside of rock crawling which to me is just not fun.

What diffs are they using in this vehicle? The Colorado ZR2 has been based heavily on the H3 over the years, I'm wondering if they beefed up the diffs to handle that tire size better.

Regarding leaf springs, Pre 1973 Chevy pickup trucks were available with coil springs in the back, I remember my dad saying they weren’t great with a load in the bed as the rear end would sway back and forth. I think because of that Chevy decided no more coil springs on the back of pickup trucks.

Andre, any recommendations on a Chevy dealer that knows about these trucks? AEV was absolutely no help answering any general questions about their parts, what's included or recommendations for a dealer. If I go to my local Chevy dealer and Johnny salesman runs up asking me how he can earn my business today and I ask about a skid plate and he asks me what that is....I'm gonna lose it....haha!
