While I do agree it was good to see the truck actually struggling and not just going down a groomed course, that's a 5 rated trail per OnX, so pretty moderate. And of course they had pre-run the track to make sure everybody would get through just fine and had their people there on-site making sure everything was managed. All that said this might be the new standard in off-road capable EVs. Certainly can't say that from just this video but this might be the first time I've seen an EV off road and didn't hate it at first sight. And it sounds like the 2-motor version would actually be better since it gets real lockers - you could see several times on this video where the rear sim-u-locker wasn't able to cope.

I'd expect more than the G or RR (which both go well beyond this price as well). Purely speculation of course, but it seems like the mentality of the buyer for this would be more inclined to do so compared to the others. Sorta viewing this more as a giant Jeep than a luxury SUV. Then again I may just be talking out of my ass - I don't expect to see any of the on the Rubicon any time soon.

Great video. Although EVs may not be ready for the mainstream - lack of range, excessive weight, infrastructure, and cost being a few hurdles still yet to tackle - this is a good look of what's to come in the next ten to twenty years. Personally I'd like a smaller version more akin to the H3 of years past (similar in size to a 4Runner or Wrangler) and maybe a PIEV option rather than full electric. But in any case, it's an exciting glimpse into the future. EVs don't have to be boring.

ICE cars can carry Jerry cans for the times they need extra range, but you can't do that with EVs. It'll be solved eventually.

its interesting watching these extreme SUVs EVs off-road. The 3 things TFL mention do hinder the off-road EV. There weight seems to be a real problem, we saw them just sliding off course in almost every shot. The virtual lockers just can't work like a traditional locker as Tommy said probably due to the excessive weight. Also it looks like they would all benefit with a low range gearbox as the throttle response makes them all look really jerky and pretty amateur when they're clearly not. Even the rear steering doesn't seem to help with this heavy beast. It's a shame, all the great tech seems thwarted with it's lack of control, usability in the real world.

I agree that the weight is a major issue with EVs off-road - although there’s a lot of tech on that beast beyond the batteries that are adding weight. I suspect that the other stuff - which appears to primarily relate to the programming - will get figured out over time. My Wrangler 4Xe doesn’t have the throttle issue you guys talk about. I don’t know if I’ve just gotten used to it or it’s because they figure it out for the ‘24s, but in low range I find that I electric-only is my preferred set-up off-road. My second Tesla is much better than my first and FSD is now actually usable on the road. That’s the thing about tech, it typically gets better over time. BEVs and hybrids will improve over time and these guys will eventually figure out the best set-up that actually works both on and off-road.

Environmental Protection Agency officials have meetings that i think you should attend, but I think the Hummer only digs on the trails that you drive it to. If you don’t want to create huge ruts, don’t. They’ve even went further and demonstrated in the video that it can handle near rock crawling, so you don’t have to necessarily destroy the terrain to have fun in this vehicle. Y’all have to make sh!t so hard. Always find something to complain about.

I’ve seen far more bro-dozers tearing apart trails by flooring it at every opportunity because spinning tires=testosterone than I have large trucks like Power Wagons and Hummers (which take the trail at a crawl to prevent damage)

Looks like they’ve fixed most of the problems with the Hummer EV but i think they could sell a lot more of them if they offered a hybrid model.

They have to figure a way to drastically lower the weight… the poor trail was getting pummeled by the Hummer EV. In an age where trail use is under increased scrutiny, that’s not gonna help us keep trails open.

Jesus that thing is going way too fast up that ledge. Is there not a low range you can select so its not trying to jolt you into next week when going over obstacles?

Did you get nervous handling the Hummer EV on the offroad trail with some of the challenging trails in Moab?
