I don't disagree, we're living in an age where full size pickups are as fast as Ferrari's from the 1980s. We don't need more power we NEED things that will last a long time. I'm driving a 2011 F-150 5.0L that I bought new, it just rolled 105K miles, I bought it thinking maybe in a decade I would look into trading in on a new one, but the 2024 equivalent of my truck is nearly 20K more than what I paid for my 2011. The price of new trucks today tells me it'll be more economical to just keep my 2011 well maintained and running for as long as possible and when something does eventually give on it, it'll probably be cheaper to just replace whatever goes out at that time, be it engine or transmission or whatever.

I liked how the tradesman was equipped but that price… You can buy a base model Tundra with all that equipment for around $48k or step up to a SR5 for around $50-$52k. Over the years, Ram has became more expensive than its competitors. There’s better value elsewhere.

Yea I had considered buying ram in the past because you could get more features, for less money than the competition.. But the past 2 years ram has lost their mind. Their quality control is nowhere as good as Ford and gm.. Yet they have surpassed them in price. FCA is crazy. Everybody knows their quality is iffy, and are not gonna pay more than what they could get a 150 or tundra for.

Start adding the equipment to it.....the price balloons quickly. Comparable trucks built,Tundra is cheaper than all the domestics. Ford isn't gonna let me build a loaded supercab anymore either so I've probably owned my last F150. Tundra probably be my next truck. Ive had the 6.2L GM lifter fiasco, don't trust Ram....so options are limited(with smaller cab).

@rome4060 Less features? They all have pretty much the same features nowadays.....depends on how you spec them. Any of the half tons will pull my 7k trailer ok and haul whatever I need to hual. I drive nothing but extended cab/double cab trucks with the 6.5ft bed. As of 2024 I can't even get a F150 Supercab with heated seats(a must for me) I have no interest in a crew cab/5.5ft bed Anyone that lets me build such a truck(not bare bones) will be a consideration in a few years. Mpg....1 or 2 difference I don't care about. Tundra quality and durability......that is definitely up in the air....in a few years we will know more. Im still scarred by my last GM 6.2L/8 speed lemon so I'd have a tough time going there. That leaves Ram and Toyota.

A Hemi is actually way more complex. A ton more moving parts. Another head on it for cooling. Valvetrain is more complicated. Too much stress on it too. NA engines are like that if you want 400hp. A straight 6 is easier to build and work on. It’s as simple as it gets. It’s also a lot more balanced with all cylinders inline and the secret is longer block. It makes it even more balanced. Now just add string rods, pistons, best head gasket, and simple flowing head. Add long runners with two small turbos to keep high HP and torque at low rpm. Add secondary cooling too turbos for extreme longevity. Use the latest ball bearing technology for turbos. Turbo is easiest technology today. Nothing to them. Simple recipe for longevity and power. A lot more room in engine bay for cooling too. Easy to work on too. Only one head instead of two. V8 is way more complicated.
