My 05 Z71 has brand new Blizzak dmv2 snow tires on it and she is a ripper. Last week when the sub 0 blizzard hit I could hardly tell how bad the roads were, I had great traction in stops and turns, but especially taking off from a dig. My 0-60 time was maybe 1 second slower than optimal conditions. Meanwhile traffic all around me was struggling with some going 10mph with hazards on trying not to slide off the road. The fast lane wasn't being driven on by anybody because it had more snow so I had a nice commute that day. Passed a bunch of 4x4 trucks going slow too, probably the same people that say they never needed snow tires in 30 years of winter driving.

I’ve got some Michelin X Ice Snow tires and the performance has been amazing. Drove around Yellowstone, Cooke city Montana, as well as Wyoming yesterday where they had just got a lot of snow and ice and my RWD Jag did amazing! Never had any traction problems even when driving over snow and ice on the interstate. Ended up passing quite a few different SUV’s and trucks with what I presume were all seasons. Ik the Blizzak’s are a good tire too. Good snow tires definitely make a big difference and anyone that says otherwise is full of it.
@cmawhz
@cmawhz Жыл бұрын
@@onefastboi14 The X ice tires are amazing, I have installed many sets and they were my first pick but got half off the blizzaks through work discounts. Hard to go wrong with either though, they are both top of the line and such a game changer when the weather hits. About a decade ago when I was a young dumb kid driving a fwd open diff car, I really struggled driving in bad conditions and hated it. Changing lanes, turning, braking, getting stuck almost daily. Just driving straight was a challenge and terrifying. Then I picked up some Altimax Arctics and I was ripping down unplowed roads at 90mph without any fear of losing control (young and dumb). Changed my winter driving experience entirely and saved my ass from other drivers many times.
@onefastboi14

@@cmawhz can’t beat half off with a work discount. They definitely are a game changer when the weather goes bad. I’ve driven around when it snowed 12+ inches in Fort Collins and ended up helping folks get unstuck. Was a lot of fun. Certainly understand that. I’ve driven around in my Accord when it snowed and it wasn’t the best experience as I had all seasons “Michelin”. Imagine it’d be a lot better with some winter tires. Don’t live in an area we’re we get snow a lot “ Houston Tx” but I do travel up north often enough I’ve got a set of winter tires.

I have a 2011 Ram 1500 that I have owned since new. First 2 upgrades I did was tires (because those stock SR-A's are trash in snow and ice - I'm Canadian, so I see snow and ice for 5 months a year) and the headlight bulbs. Ran through 2 sets of KO2s that were good for a combined 220,000km, and just put on a set of Maxxis RAZRs because I got an insane deal on them. For the headlights, I went with 55w HIDs in the 6000k (white) range. Just those two upgrades made my truck much more enjoyable to drive on both the highway and on logging trails.

Just a couple of comments. The RMA states that a 3 peak rated tire must have a 10% increase in traction over a non-3peak rated M&S, not much. I have driven many AT and MT tires in the snow (lived in New England= lots of snow) and the performance varies greatly (M/T's are terrible). The Hankook AT-M is not rated very high in snow traction compared to other AT's. My new PRO-4X came with the Hankook's I swapped them out for Wildpeak AT3W's and got a noticeable increase in snow traction. My son runs TOYO A/T III's and they have better traction than the AT3W's. I run the BFG TA KO2's on my Earthcruiser and they also perform very well however I have a Torsen front dif and a factory FUSO limited slip rear dif that adds greatly to the snow performance. I love your work, Thank You!

Marching Band Steps are a universal measuring tool of the football field. Three Season Tires are nice until the temperature hits freezing, and then they start sliding; Four Wheel Drive helps the car to accelerate, but steering and stopping can be dangerously-problematic, especially when you're driving in a snow and ice storm after a band night, a harrowing experience made worse by the fact that almost nobody else has Winter Tires.

A metal hook on the end of a nylon strap can be a flying projectile if the strap fails. I lost a Bronco windshield to such an event.

I was going to post this as well. They should be wearing helmets and use soft shackles. I wouldn't even use that blue strap with the metal hooks in the middle, either. If that strap breaks, any piece of metal becomes a projectile that can cause serious injury or death, or at least serious damage to the vehicles. There was a video out not long ago about a man who was killed when a trailer hitch broke while he was trying to get pulled out of a mud hole. The guy had a wife and kids, I think his wife was in the truck with him when it happened.

Looks like at about 13:45 the front bumper is pushing snow in front of the tires. Perhaps that is the main driver? What is the difference in the ground clearance between the two?

Have you ever done a braking test with ABS on and off in various weather conditions?

Unless you pull the fuse, there isn't any ABS on or off LOL.

@@wildbill23c Yes, the problem with that? The question still remains, has it been done other than when Ford produced a salesman training video in the 90's. The video at that time showed average stopping distances with all 4 wheels locked-up. Of course with 4 wheel lock-up you do not have steering control.

Good test. I hate the SRA's. Im in the market, and down to Cooper AT3 LT(orX), Firestone AT2 (or x), and the Falken AT3w. (I drive 90% on road, but use trails to hunt / fish, and need solid snow performance) Any favorites out there?

Uh, weight? And possibly footprint (tire width). Throw 400-800 pounds in the back of each truck. In my ranger I have 300 pounds of sand and gravel. Not only weight, but if I get stuck or need to help someone stuck on slick I can take out the slick. And for tug-of-war, see if you can match the weight of the trucks. But yeah, this video was just to have fun.

I dont know why amercans seem to shy away from having proper winter tires? Ich have a set of tires for winter and a set for summer. Offroad tires are for offroading and all seasons are mediocre year around.

Wonder why People make such broad assumptions! Pretty amazing this day and age that the human psyche hasn’t progressed enough to stop. I’m an American to the fullest degree and I use “proper snow tires” in the snow and off road tires off road. Assume: to make an ASS outta U and ME

I wonder why European countries are pretentious and make rude assumptions in regards to Americans? My family immigrated to America because it was the greatest country on the planet. No amount of conjecture, stereotypes, or anything will change the minds of millions of immigrants who risk their lives to get here.

@@oldrango883 well i didnt want to offend anyone. the only impressions of the usa i have , is from youtube and americans as tourists. many things are different, the idea what a "normal" sized car is. A full size us car will have trouble parking in most european cities. So i assumed that maybe the american mindset differs from the european regarding tires.

Not too surprised at the outcome. I live in Montana and I bought a 2007 F-150 in 2010 that had very new looking Hankook ATs on it. One of the worst traction tires on snow and packed show I've ever had. I'm sure that others out there absolutely love them but I'll never buy a set of them.
