I want a new comanche with new tech, basically a two door gladiator with better approach/departure angles! maybe chop a foot off the bed behind the back wheel for optimal angles. You know what? go a step further and put some ported axles on this bad boy for ultimate capability

For real offloading there is no comparison, Comanche is better. Approach, departure, breakover angles as well as width, length, and weight. We haven't even mentioned price and reliability yet, put some real axels under it and pocket the 45k!

I was thinking the same thing. Fins and Things is a fun trail for stock vehicles, but there's so much better and more challenging trails they could have done. Hell's Gate would be the logical next step in difficulty for sure.

I am with you here. They were NEVER going to retool their factories to re-create the Comanche. Financially speaking it was going to be way easier to just slap a bed on the back of a JL. But I am with you. This is NOT worth the hype. Certainly NOT worth the $ they are asking for.
@jeepinbanditrider5 жыл бұрын
It's not just a matter of tooling. The original design of the XJ/MJ would NEVER pass emissions and safety regulations today. There's no way around that not without what amounts to a full redesign anyway. Emissions and CAFE standards alone mean we will never see a boxy SUV like the XJ again. It's part of the reason so many SUVs and Crossovers today look the same. There's only so much you can do with the shape of a vehicle to help it stay fuel efficient.

@DragonKnightX125 жыл бұрын
@@WW-wf8tu Except they didn't just slap a bed on the JL. The JT has a completely new frame made for truck duty and borrows a lot of components from the new Ram 1500 like the 5-link rear coil spring suspension which makes nicer ride than a JL. They also added a high-speed range to the T-case like a Raptor has for Baja blasting and the Gladi Rubi gets Fox 2.0 Racing shocks isntead of the normal Rubicon shocks.

Id still wager that commanche is less than 60k even with the upgrades. Actually. I dont have to. They put about 10k into the MJ. Plus purchase price. Sponsored or not, this simply proves that old school.with a mild set of upgrades can do enough to make one wonder where that 60k goes
@mrvwbug44235 жыл бұрын
The Teraflex kit on that Commanche is about 1200 bucks (probably less because they only used the front half of the kit), the tires about 1000 for the set. And they dropped a couple grand for the transmission rebuild. Still definitely in cheap Jeep territory.
@Towing4175 жыл бұрын
More like $4,000 in upgrades max. Probably closer to $2,800 since they only used the front lift and those tires can be had for 950 out the door and the lift for just under 2k. I can find a comanche for around 2k in that shape so maybe 6k total.

No spanking at all. The Glad still managed without lockers, just a few extra scraping. Notice that the majority of the obstacles involved descending, since I'm sure the venerable Comanche is underpowered at that altitude with 33" rubber. All in all a fun comparison, but the title is clickbait. Roman hit the nail on the head: today's truck sales are also targeting the recreational segment, which is the hottest segment in the market. 👍

I still have my much beloved Jeep Wrangler Sport TJ from 1996. After all these years, she still seems so new and exciting to me. I have never let a mechanic touch her. I maintain, repair, and upgrade her. I replaced the suspension with a SkyJacker 4.5 inch suspension lift. I replaced the transmission with a Terminator AX-15. I have lovingly given everything she needs. I installed the 35x12.5R15 BF Goodrich All Terrain tires and balanced them. My dearest, "Windi," has been with me since 1996 and will likely be with me for the rest of my life. She is my love, my life, my dream come true. My daily driver, my long distance vacation traveler, my off road adventure vehicle. It is painful to think she could never return the love and devotion I have for my dearest, "Windi." But, love her I do. She has never let me down. We have faced floods together, record breaking snow and cold, destroyed roads due to the floods, hundreds of thousands of miles together. We even met the dreaded death wobble that has ended many Jeep and owner relationships and together we conquered it. We found out it was actually an easy fix. Many years have passed. Windi and I remain as faithful and devoted to each other as ever. But a new threat to our relationship threatens us. Though twice a year I scrape, sand, prime, and paint Windi's frame, this year I discovered a rust hole the size of an egg right in front of the rear driver's wheel. Rust is like cockroaches, for every rust event you see, there are 100 rust events hiding. This means the frame for my beloved Windi must be replaced within a few years. The outside of the frame looks immaculate to the point of looking new. But it is obvious there is hideous rust devouring the inside of my Windi's frame. I must confess, a tear ran down my cheek when I found the rust hole. It is like finding out a loved one has cancer. It is exactly finding out a cancer is eating away at a loved one. But we have been through so much together to end our relationship now. My beautiful love still continues her journey with me, though I know what is happening deep inside the frame of my wonderful TJ, Windi. Every day, I look at her and see near perfection but know she is fighting for her existence in a hidden way. We are fighting for her life together. I have already studied on a product called, "SafeTCap." It is pricey. I have explained to Windi that this may mean a lot less off road excursions and a lot less vacations together until she is made better. I could easily start a new relationship with a new Jeep for the next 23 years to come. But Windi seems much more than a mere machine to me, after all these years. A human will use, betray, painfully abandon you, step on you to get ahead, victimise you physically and emotionally. However, my wonderful, "Windi," will never do any of this. People devote their lives to liars, thieves, users, criminals. I have chosen to devote my life to my Windi. She will never betray me. We will overcome the hideous frame rust blight that has claimed so many TJ's and Jeep relationships in the past. We will overcome together what has destroyed so many. 23 years together is not enough to close our relationship. We will survive the frame rust blight. Love conquered death wobble / death rattle. Love will conquere, "the rot."
