You can see that these videos are connecting to the audience because view counts are up when there is a video of someone's high mileage truck. Alot of people cant afford to get new trucks every 3 or 4 years so this really shows them what kind of longevity they can get.. Great videos 👍

Well, in my country most people buys (including me) full-size trucks with 10 years or more because cars are very expensive here because taxes, so this kind of videos are really appreciated. I'm mechanic, and because complexity, I learned that I will stay with old ones (new ones are really hard to repair, because in many repairs you need to have the connectivity with the manufacturers websites for reflashing computers).

That guy having problems with his throttle body isn't really experience a fault with the truck. Modern engines have crankcase ventilation systems that keep crankcase gases from escaping into the atmosphere by redirecting the gases back into the intake. This causes crankcase gunk to choke up your throttle body. So, you're supposed to clean that every so often. If he's having issues, it's because it's not being serviced. All engines with crankcase vents need to have this done as a regular maintenance item.

Yup. I'm the guy with the 2013 F150 with 248k miles and 7 TB in a previous TFL video. I just rolled 251k miles with 150k towing- I don't think these TB were designed for this. The truck is pretty good. Throttle body, not so much. I only learned about catch cans to collect the EGR crap at 180k miles. Currently pondering this upgrade but not sure if it will make a difference at this point.

@BL Dontmatter Hi BL, I never installed catch can. Just kept up with oil changes and maintenance. The transmission finally died at 316,xxx miles. I bought a used trans with 54,xxx miles and installed last spring. Seemed fine for a while. Just blew a head gasket last month at 336,xxx Truck is parked in my driveway while I ponder next steps. Not sure if catch can is essential - I have never heard of a 3.5 ecoboost with this many miles yet (checking online forums) Interior and body is still mint - 54k trans, 100k on both axles (swapped from a wreck truck to get 3.73 gears) Engine is only thing left... Decisions...

Yeah I've got a 2003 ram 2500 4x4 with 5.7 hemi with 286,000 miles and I absolutely beat the cheap out of it so much so that it does debris cleanup from hurricanes and when I worked at the lumber mill I put 6 bundles of rough cut true 2x6x14 over 600 boards plus the truck and gooseneck dump trailer pulled on the scale and weighed out at 36,110 lbs. crazy but it pulled it. I've got quite a bit on my channel about it. Truth be told you won't find tougher or better trucks!

Honestly, the early hemis were really strong motors. I have an 03 as a plow truck and still runs strong. Same goes for any of the cummins . Built like a tractor motor and will run forever. There's a reason why most hotshot towing is being done by Rams.

@@tallll70 coming from a magnum v10 owner, you have to keep in mind we are talking about a 20 year old vehicle that redlines at 4500. They weren't made for high horsepower, they were built for torque, and to produce that torque day in and day out reliably, and they do just that.

My family has owned trucks from all three of the big brands. We have NEVER had any issues with Dodge transmissions. (Can not say the same for Ford or GM in our experiences.) We've had multiple Mopar vehicles with over 225,000 miles on them. I think my brother's Ram 3500 dually rides smoother than my dad's F-150. I also think Dodge seats are far more comfortable than Ford's or GM's as well. Overall, we've just had much better experiences with Mopar products than with Ford or GM.

Those with a 5.7L V8 Hemi ... keep an ear out for the rollers on the roller-rockers going out. As soon as you hear an issue, get it fixed before you drop some parts into places unknown.

My 08 stubby with a hemi runs great 217k miles. No major issues. Stock drive train and factory ac compressor, water pump, power steering pump, alternator, stock ignition coils. Only engine work was when I replaced egr valve

Drove my 05 Ram 300,000 miles, only one issue= fuel pump failed at 270k. Dodge Magnum trouble free for 400k except fuel pump failed at around 350k. Now my Ecodiesel has 150k with no problems. Yup, very happy with Mopar.

If you are running conventional oil yeah no more than 3000 miles, but if you run synthetic oil there is no reason you can’t go 5000 miles between oil changes.

My '05 Ram 2500 4x4 5.7L diesel is an absolute TANK. I bought it brand new in '06 with 34 miles on it and it now has 300k on it and still runs like new. I'm OCD about maintenance and make sure it has all the necessary work done on schedule. The only thing I've changed is, at 160k I put a heavy-duty ATS transmission in it, a K&N filter, and a topper. The truck will absolutely outlive me. It's part of the family and I would trade it in for any amount of money.

2007 Ram 1500, hemi, 4x4 here. 208,000 miles drivetrain has only had fluid changes. Most people that see it are amazed at the condition, looks great . Has a 2 inch leveling kit, 2014 Dodge Sport 20” wheels and 295/60-20 tires, Thunderstruck bumper/grillguard.

Just 4-5 hours North of Toronto, it's rare you'll see a 10 year old truck that's not rusted to oblivion, doesn't matter if it's a Ram, Ford, GM or Toyota. Went to Florida a few months ago and I was jealous that you never see a dirty car or truck or any rust for that matter.

My 2003 ram with a very modest (underpowered) 4.7 V8 is CRAZY reliable. Mechanically my RAM is a beast. Cosmetically its not. Fit and finish is poor and the plastic haven't aged well seeing lots of heat cracks. For a work truck that's no problem. The only REAL issue with these RAMS is that they are prone to RUST.

Maintenance is key with any vehicle. I have a 2014 ram 1500 hemi laramie...love the truck. Only thing that happened was an oil pressure sensor fixed under warranty. It seems that ram trucks are hit and miss. Friend of mine had same year as mine and had all kinds of trouble. He finally traded for a 2019 ram. Overall they are decent trucks. All manufacturers have their issues. I'm a gm guy at heart but have had 3 ram trucks. All have been good!

all big 3 are hit and miss, sometimes upgraded components failing, new parts = sometimes new problems. If you not lucky, you can easily get lemon, change manufacture for it and sit in another lemon

I have a 2007 1500 Big Horn Edition with the 4.7. Has the standard 6 speed transmission as well. Absolutely love it and I'm glad to see it has a pretty reliable engine. It's not real powerful but having the standard is a fair tradeoff for me since the Hemi 1500s are only automatic. Btw, I'm really loving this series!

I had a 2007 Ram 1500,with the Hemi. Worked Great intill, 90000miles,after that, front shocks, got stick, you could not compress them, 350$in parts, i live in Sweden, as an old mecanic i do all repairs, only partprice. Except from gearbox restoratiin, had only one gear one day, 3900$. New engine belt and plastic pulleys, water pump, leak, 350$, new thermostat, because of leaking, CAP over the thermosstat. New enginecooler, 400$ left wheelbearing, 400$ broke in extreme cold weather. Manifold gasket and new bolts, 7was broke.,200$. All this between 90000-140000 miles. Loved my truck. But sold it and bought a new Ram Longhorn, hemi. 2018.

I change the fluids on a regular basis and change the plugs and wires once a year due to the efi live 93 octane hp tuning in it. Kinda eats em up. But still going strong. My new Cummins is a great truck but I love my old Silverado more.

I've got a 2009 5.7 Hemi with the 16 sparks plugs and $1k to replace them is just absurd. I spent about $60 on the plugs and 2 hours of my time and swapped them out myself. Half of that time was spent screwing around with my spark plug socket that was absolute garbage, I'm sure next time I could swap them all in under an hour. I'm loving these reliability videos, I bought my 09 grand cherokee with the hemi at 146k miles expecting to take it to 200k. I'm at 170k now and now I'm hoping it will make it to 250k without too many issues.

It Doesn't Cost a $1.000 Dollars to change out the 16 plugs I bought the plugs and brought them to my garage they charged me about $150 to install I forget what I paid for the top of the line plugs maybe $150 so roughly $300 For my spark plug change out...My intention was to change them myself but I had three spinal fusions and need a fourth so.

Dan Hambrick Both trucks have their purpose. I have my 06 Dakota but I’ve also driven my pop’s 07 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins. Both are good trucks in their own respect, the Ram is better suited for long trips and towing, but the Dakota is a good general purpose truck for running errands and easier to park and maneuver.

Had a 03 Ram with the image group. The 5.9L gas, ran like a champ. Unfortunately all four quarters and the rockers were a rusted out mess. Oh and the Moon Roof...... I needed a umbrella in the rain. After 10 years I traded it in for a 13 Grand Cherokee w/ 5.7... Not a bit of rust in the 7yrs I've had it.

I’ve had 4 rams. 2000 1500 v6 2003 1500 Hemi, 2004 4.6or 4.7 can’t remember. And now a 2005 ram 2500 5.9 Cummins all had over 300,xxx all original parts. Best trucks I’ve had out of all. And I’ve had every name brand except Toyota. So I can’t say. But they have plenty of room for the 2 kids. And can’t wait to get a new truck when the price is lower and the truck is older.

The 5.9 common rail Cummins is probably the best modern diesel we will ever see. Especially the 2003 and early 2004 versions. 04.5 gave more injector problems, but still great engines.

My 2001 VP44 truck ran fine. Just keep a good lift pump and fuel pressure in them they run great. Mine had 275K on it when I sold it.

@@rebelcowboy5.7l98 The mfg date in the door will show a date before jan. 1 2004. If it isn't there, look at the engine tag behind the intake horn. It will show as 325 hp if it's the newer engine, 305 hp or less for the older one. They have a different cam profile, different pistons, and different injector nozzles causing in-cylinder egr. Injector's fire 3 times instead of 2 causing more wear.

I had the same problem with my dash but instead of spending all that money I went to a local supply place and for $57 they ordered me a carpet that is custom fit over the cracked dash and I got it in black so they would not be any light reflecting in my eyes it was well worth of $57 dresses it up real nice. The carpet is custom fit to your truck just give him the make model and year and they come with a whole bunch of Velcro and it took me 5 minutes or less

@ tfl truck-I have a 2001 Ram 2500 Quad Cab Laramie 4x4 with around 450,000 miles on it. Has the 8.0 V10. Engine is original, has never been apart, doesn't use or leak ANY oil and runs like brand new... I have JBA ceramic-coated titanium headers, K&N intake, custom exhaust dumping out of a huge aftermarket muffler, and a Hemifever 93 octane tune. The 47RE was rebuilt at around 255k miles, and has some extra clutches and increased line pressure and shifts VERY nice. 4.10 limited slip out back, and is set up for off-roading so it is very tight... I've rebuilt the transfer case twice. I've rebuilt the Dana 70 probably 7-8 times (the V10 doesn't get along with the relatively tiny 4.10 pinion; it tends to literally break the thing into pieces eventually....) The truck literally hauls ass though! Most reliable truck I've ever owned! It has only been towed a few times-when the first fuel pump died while parked at home (it's on the fourth pump now), when an aftermarket crap idler pulley froze up, when the transfer case blew up while Towing 10,000 lbs in Victorville, and when I blew both rear tires on the freeway in the rain, doing a 90-100 mph continuous burnout. Original heater core and HOT heater (although it takes forever to warm up cause it's a V10 and has a 180 degree thermostat), second A/C compressor, radiator, third water pump, third steering gearbox has a tiny leak but steering is very tight, fourth power steering pump, second brake booster, second master cylinder, replace the o2 sensors about every 50,000 miles cause they short out and make the v10 run all funky when they do, I've re-cushioned both front seats but the driver seat has recently developed its first tear--other than that the factory Laramie leather seats are flawless. Original dash has the typical 2nd Gen cancer... I've replaced both front window regulators cause the motors died. Original ECU. Truck has never been in an accident - EVER, but definitely has some battle scars on it, as it's had HEAVY off road use, and was used as my company's repo truck from 2007 to 2012 (I've repo'd thousands of cars with it). Truck has NEVER overheated--it hasn't even ran up to the middle of the factory temp gauge even once... In fact the original radiator and water pump lasted 301,000 and 303,000 miles! The odometer actually says 377,xxx, but I have had a "No bus" issue for the last 12 years or so, and when that happens (about 24.5% of running time) the mileage doesn't increase as you drive. Through careful and attentive mileage tracking, I put the actual mileage at right around 450,000. I've never run it at the track, but it's somewhere around a 15 flat in the quarter/maybe high 14's...and it'll go anywhere and tow just about anything. I want to do an IKE gauntlet with it! Interested?

I had a 2005 regular cab dodge ram I bought new and the motor blew on me at 30,000 miles got it fixed . Almost new motor was put in and it blew as well. And it was that 4.7. I still a ram guy but I stayed clear of the 4.7 and now no issues with 5.7

I have 2015 ram1500 SXT quad cab 4x4 with hemi and just turned over 400,000 Km or 250,000 mi for you down south. Purchased new and pretty happy overall. Repairs have included front wheel bearings, rad, water pump, shift solenoid in transmission, some front bushings. No modifications. Even original brakes and tires did about 140,000 km. I do a lot of highway but do have some heavy loads and do work off road in rock and mud. I have Perelli scorpion LT tires now with 155,000 km on them which have been great.

pat funny I have two and not rust on any of them but then I wash my vehicles underneath after driving them on salty roads in Salt Lake City rocker panel rust comes from people who never wash the underside of their vehicle.

My 2014 Ram 1500 just turned over 200k. Still runs like the day I bought it. Change oil every 5k with synthetic, don't drive like a maniac, and do most work myself (UCA, drilled out broken exhaust manifold bolts and fixed hemi tick issue due to warped exhaust manifold, a new water pump, new front wheel bearings, and basic wear and tear maintenance). Just changed plugs and they looked fine. Will be putting in new lower ball joints soon, starting to wear. Want to make this thing last. Still in overall great shape.

I have the 2nd gen 03 Dodge Dakota Crew Cab 4.7 magnum 4x4 it's totally stock fully loaded with factory tow package. It has 235,000 miles on it and still runs like a Swiss watch. I love this old truck and I keep on top of all maintenance and repairs. No matter where I need to go or conditions I know I van count on my Dodge to get me there.

@Tj Semeniuk that's odd as I have no cooling issues I do have to add coolant on occasion from normal evaporation. I had to replace thermostat and I had a system flush done. Just routine type maintenance work. I think the reason so many have problems is one not doing maintenance and overworking the truck. This is a midsized and not meant to be run like a fullsize truck.

I own a 2008 Ram 1500 5.7L hemi 4x4 Big Horn Edition Laramie quad cab with 257,300 miles. Still a strong puller. Just did a 500mi road trip last weekend. I stay on top of preventative maintenance and have replaced a lot of stuff on it, and intend to get another quarter million miles out of it!

My 2005 ram 1500 hemi 4x4. 387000 miles. Only repair is alternator and condensor fan. Regular maintenance. Uses no oil. Has tick when cold since new. Runs like new.

Most of these rust issues are happening in the obvious climates. If you think that rust is bad, look to your nearest toyota (and just pray there's still a frame underneath)

And now everyone knows why I see no point in buying a used truck, most of these rigs have more miles than my 1998. It only has 180,000 miles on it, but when you live two blocks from work for nearly four years you don't rack up a lot of miles. My only complaints are the NV4500 doesn't have enough gears and the paint is crap, like pretty much all 90's era vehicles.

Yea those 2nd gen trucks are just like the rest of the trucks from the 90s. They rust,they leak,they have terrible paint and such. But I've seen them 318's and 360's running on the road. Still running like the day they where new. I don't see many Ford's of the 90s on the road.

Had a 2001 V8 4.7 L Dakota Sport. Was stock and rock solid. Interior was cloth. The 1 issue I can remember is the electronic seat controls on the driver side gave out and had to get repaired. Was under warranty. Would have bought the next generation as a replacement, however they ruined the engine. It no longer had low end torque was high end and that had no interest to me. Changing how it performed in accordance to emissions and mpg regs. Also they ruined the extended cab lines with the door pillar making visibility compromised. Was a shame. Point, if you find something you like, don't give it up. It is worth the money in most cases to just keep it going until the frame cannot handle your needs anymore.

My opinion on the winch set up is necessary especially for the rookie off roader. You want the hood up while using the winch. The reason for that is alot of people do not use the line weights incase of the line breaking so therefore if you have the hood up and the line breaks and you or your passenger were to be inside it could come through the windshield and injure you or your passengers or worse. So the hood is much better at stopping the winch line than the windshield. And I found that out when a 4 wheeler winch line smashed into my jeep xj window. Thankfully the line was thin so it did not damage my windshield.

That is a single stage paint so it all goes on at the same time. The newer paint is a multi stage like primer and a base coat then a clear coat and that’s what all the newer trucks have this and when first started the multi stage paint the clear coat would start to peel .

I'm a Ford guy but I LOVE these trucks. My best friend drives an 05 Dakota with the 3.7V6. Ridden it a lot and driven a few times. Worst issue he had was the brake lines rusting out and went out on him, he was one brake pump from running me over accidentally and the transmission line leaked. Other than that, it's a nice running truck. Has only around 65k miles on it.

My old '94 Ram 1500 was running great until someone bought it and flipped it. The only issues it had were a stuck shift fork for 4x4, old gaskets that leaked oil, and the cat clogged and had to be replaced. Zero motor or transmission issues. The rust was everywhere, of course. CT resident here.

bought a 98 dakota new, it has almost 400,000 on it, 5.2/auto/4x4 only major work it has had is all stainless brakeline kit, heater core replacement and the normal required maintenance, people complain about their transmissions but i have had no issues with mine because i change fluid/filter/band adjustments every 50,000 miles

I loved my 2010 Ram but at 130k two of the lifters came apart and ate the cam. Engine was pristine inside (used Amsoil) and the truck was babied mainly highway miles to and from work. $4k later it was fixed but I traded it. Really disappointed that Chrysler knew this was an issue for years and did nothing. Was my first Chrysler product and my last.

I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab with almost 250K miles on it. It has been a great truck and is is such good mechanical condition, I would drive it to Alaska without any hesitation. And I am in Louisiana.
