Mike, that's the only thing the haters can bash on the Tundra. They can't both on it's solid build/reliability or it's fantastic resale value so they cry that its a gas hog...guess what? So is every other truck. We don't buy these for fuel economy.

And that was with the TRD PRO, which undeniably gets the worst mileage out of the entire lineup of trims. This is my biggest complaint with TFL. They seem to exclusively test the TRD PRO Tundras and then knock the truck for being what it is designed for. Especially in an ON ROAD test of capabilities. The TRD SPORT is the truck they should have tested here. Or a platinum/1794. The biggest knock of the truck was it's off road tuned suspension in a hauling test.... Like ... Duh.

One time I got my old 2005 GMC half ton extended cab stuck about 4 miles up a snow covered dirt road in Montana, called a friend to come pull me out, he got stuck, so we both called a tow truck company which happened to be the same one, so the tow truck guy drives from an hour away and gets my friend out, and then got too scared to come further out to where I was so he left, and at this time it was about midnight or so. So I sleep in my truck and then in the morning I call again so they send out 2 guys from the same tow company and they bring up 2 snowmobiles and a tow truck, well they were too scared to bring the tow truck up to me so they come pick me and my dog up on the snowmobiles and by this time it's been 24 hours since I left home and had anything to eat or drink. So they get me on the snowmobiles and we leave my truck there and they drive me home. So then they drive an hour back home and the next day they bring a more capable 4x4 tow truck the next day and pull my truck out and then drop it off to me in town lol. So between 3 tow trucks and 3 different days I racked up a $1,600 (USD) tow bill, but I made my insurance cover it so that was cool. But yeah life lesson, don't go too crazy driving around in the snow, it gets expensive.

It looks like 17 people agree with me and none with you. How can you tell me the Tundra isn't a truck lol. Its a dated interior with everything someone needs and a V8 that will make 650 horsepower supercharged. Even supercharged its still over 10,000 less than the competition @@jaredchampagne2752

Evan Hasson your comment is 4 weeks old and is a main comment not a side comment of course it has a couple likes from fan boys. Most people that comment on stuff on KZbin just hate on stuff they can’t afford, but I’ve driven them all. Okay, so you agree it’s a dated interior, it’s a dated truck, it’s sluggish, the body panels make it look like a crossover SUV, the big 3 have all the basics AND more! Why wouldn’t you go with the big 3, they’re tried and true, you don’t see commercial companies using Toyota’s do you? No because they’re for yuppies that should be driving a car but want a truck to fit in. A tundra is what ford Chevy and dodge were 15 years ago. There’s a reason that ford and Chevy sell 100 pickups to 1 Toyota, they can’t hold up to the same abuse as American trucks, you want to claim power? If you’re going that route, Chevy LS motors can handle 1000hp stock with a few bolt ons and be daily driveable lol. Of course any v8 can be supercharged, itd be weird if it couldn’t. You get what you pay for, a Tundra is a car with a bed.
@evanhasson60326 жыл бұрын
Not sluggish actually, its faster than some of these trucks equipped with their respective diesels, tiny ass v6's and even V8's. You see the problem with "more" is that it opens the door for more reliability problems. There is a reason Toyota truck are so damn reliable and its because they don't have a bunch of extra nannies. It looks nothing like a crossover SUV and you couldn't even come up with an argument for that. You may want to get your eyes checked. Commercial companies don't use Toyota trucks because they want to support the American market. Also, the American truck brands have incentive deals for large fleets, something Toyota does not do. Ford, Dodge, and Chevy were nothing like the Tundra fifteen years ago because they broke down a lot. Also, the tacoma is the number 1 selling midsized pickup so I do not where you got that statistic. You are correct that a chevy could make that much power, its just that it is more expensive and less reliable power. Also, THE Ballistic BJ Baldwin drive a Tundra, as does Mark Owen from Seal Team Six and I'm sure you wouldn't tell it to either of their faces that they drive a car haha. One more, can a car tow a space ship, I think not. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aajIhIJnfpqbqKc @@jaredchampagne2752

Randy Thompson Right now diesel is $0.87 more than gas per gallon. IF the diesel got 9mpg more than the gas (and it’ll only get around 4-6 more) it would be even in dollars per mile. So you are loosing money with the diesel (and power and torque) not including the cost of the def, or higher oil change cost, or higher cost to purchase the Diesel engine. The way I see it, the absolute ONLY advantage of the diesel right now is more range on a single tank of gas. And my bladder can’t outlast a 30gal tank of gas getting 20mpg.

Did you factor in price in your decision? The reason I ask is I can pick up a Titan Pro4x for $45-50k CAD, whereas a GMC Denali is $65+CAD (and not even a power passenger seat). When the Titan's capacities far exceed my needs, the extra $20Gs for a comparable GMC or Ram becomes a hard sell for me.

As always, TFL Truck does a great job with their tests. I really enjoy the thoroughness of the evaluations and the fact that you do a good job of separating the objective from the subjective. I just wish GM would have supplied one of their two trucks with the more commonly purchased, 5.3 liter V-8s. Would also liked to have seen the MPG numbers for the 5.3. Although it seems like everything is pointing to the Ram being my next truck. Ram Limited and GMC Denali are about the same price but I think Ram did a much better job on their interior update IMHO.
@rogernewcomb90146 жыл бұрын
Just an observation... you said that the Toyota had better overall fuel numbers than the RAM, but the individual test points for each of them are danged near identical, with the empty and towing being better in the RAM. How is it the comparable average is worse for the RAM than the Toyota? Thanks for your response, -Roger
@SelmerVidz16 жыл бұрын
Hey Roger, Here is an explanation from the outfit responsible for the fuel economy chart: "The comparable average does not average the fuel consumption values for the three test trips but rather uses the sum of the fuel consumed divided by the sum of the trip distances for all three trips, multiplied by 100. Essentially, this ensures that all fuel consumed and distance driven is accounted for." Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@rogernewcomb90146 жыл бұрын
@@SelmerVidz1 Hi Stephen, was there excess idling time for the Ram or something? It's strange that individual tests show better fuel economy, but lower overall. I know the EPA numbers are slightly better for the Ram than the Tundra (Tundra shows near the button on these metrics usually because it's still using a 6 speed automatic.) Just looking for clarity.

Comparing a diesel's performance, capabilities, and efficiency in a group of gas guzzlers is like testing ballistic penetration of a 45ACP vs 300 blackout, 7.62x39 and 5.56. There is no fair chance for the Ford to compete. Couldn't they have just rented an actually gas f150 to test, and make it more of a fair challenge? Would have gotten my thumbs up for effort, that's for sure....

You're assuming Ford knew what the truck was going to be used for. Man, wouldn't it just be nice to tell them, "hey, I'm testing this, and this, and this, vs all these other trucks. Can you give me one that will compete?...." If that were the case, I'm sure you would be seeing a raptor in the lineup instead of a diesel hahahaha. Anyway, wouldn't you agree for the sake of a more accurate comparison, that going the extra mile as automotive journalists to get a comparable vehicle go a long way, and make for better quality content, instead of settling with what you are given?

I really like what you guys are doing to get solid info about the different trucks out there to the population. However, I'm still a bit mind blown by the fact that none (that I know of) of multiples reviews about the Ram mention that this air suspension system is faulty in northern regions like Canada for instance. I mean, some of the TFL reviewers are from Ontario so they must of heard about all the troubles that comes with the air suspension on our cold winters. It was not meant to withstand our harsh winters!! It starts to feel like FCA told you guys to not talk about all the problems that people are experiencing with the Ram's air suspension. For those of you still wondering what issues I'm talking about, here are some (a quick google search will confirm all this): - empty suspension on cold mornings - system emptying itself while driving - compressor refuses to fill-up the balloons - frozen block-valve - frozen compressor - unable to use the different riding levels (stuck on a specific setting) - etc! So what gives ? I'd really love to hear you guys talk about it because as you are well aware, the problems are quite real.
