Calling a system that relies on your imagination “dark and grim” is on those people, not us

I just sent off for a used copy of the OSE Ref tome for under 30 bucks. Very clear rule presentation. Never feel confused looking for anything.

I bought the boxed sets but I hate having so many little books. I’m thinking of returning them for these

Ive just backed the new Kickstarter, mainly for the nostalgia although I too played AD&D -Basic was for the lesser geeks....😜

I love this system. If I were to nitpick (which I am about to), I would say that I wish that they used AD&D hit dice (where fighter use d10, clerics d8, etc.). Easily fixable, though, and a minor gripe. Overall, OSE AF is a tough system to beat.

I never played B/X. I came in with AD&D 2e. I wish the OSR didn't have 500 variations of B/X and that someone would do a cleaned up, modernized version that was closer to AD&D. What do we have? Maybe Castles and Crusades?

OSRIC is a cleaned up AD&D. Not necessarily modernized though. ~ Jeff

In the time we live now. Plenty of examples of playing role-playing games. Just look on KZbin.
