My wife is Thai, we've been married for 6.5 years, she asked me this afternoon if she could buy some dried squid from a FB seller, cost was 156 Baht. She always checks with me before she buys something, and i always tell her she doesn't need to. Demanding something from a virtual stranger is nor cultural it entitlement.

She was modest.I was with lady and after two weeks after she asked me to build her the house or coffee shop or small guest house. I bought her the bottle of water to refresh and didn’t see her again. They thought that in US or Europe the money falls from the three. We are treated sometimes as walking ATM.

My Mrs never asked me for anything till we'd been together over a year and even then it wasn't her asking it was her sister saying you should buy her something nice. I gave her 5000baht and she went off with her sisters shopping . 2 and half hours later they came back, she showed me a gold ring which fit her wedding finger and her sister said congratulations you are engaged now LOL. here we are 21 years later, married for 19 of them .I would never buy anything expensive after a few dates but for us it was around 14 months. not all Thai ladies are after you buying them gifts. My Mrs is very carefull with her money as she has learned from me and knows money is not easy to come by.

I make you right, it’s different if you’re in a proper relationship, not when you’re just dating. I met a load of girls when I was travelling in Thailand during my sabbatical, and it was only 1 date, then a few days later they’d text me asking for money for one thing or another. I met about a dozen girls, and it only happened twice, but I told them no, and to be fair, I still texted them afterwards and they seemed fine with it. This girl seems like a bit of a player. Does make me laugh when they call us butterflies l, but they are way worse.

I was tight from the day I landed. It is not culture mate, it is perception. Because most Thais have never left their province, they think anyone that flies overseas and lives without working in Thailand is rich. I moved to Bangkok in 2004 for work and made plenty of the same mistakes you did early on. You played it right and her coming back days later is normal. Luckily you have seen the real her and can put her behind you mate.

That ain’t right at all , my friend had same problem in Thailand ppl asking him buy new phone or if he went shopping they was upset that they didn’t get anything . I don’t think it’s culture maybe they see western men having money so easy targets .
