I interview Paddy Doyle, one of Thailand's most popular KZbinrs about what it takes to be successful on KZbin and the risks Paddy took to start his channel. This is part 1 of 2 interviews with Paddy. I felt Paddy gave great value and I couldn't cut-out a lot of what he said.
Paddy had a full-time job as a teacher in Chiangmai and lived a comfortable life in a nice house with a pool. However, he longed for adventure and when the pandemic arrived he decided to take the risk, quitting his job to start a KZbin channel. Paddy also discusses his channel strategy and what he has done to become a successful fulltime KZbinr. It was a pleasure to interview him and I wish him nothing but success with his channel. #paddydoyle #thailand #thairishtimes

Have followed Paddy from the beginning of his tour seen the highs and some lows when he needed to chill & replenish but always engrossing! I think to be honest Paddy is a work aholic and hasn't yet found the balance he craves but maybe that comes with time? I know myself and I am a lot older than Paddy that being self employed is addictive and you will never go back to been an employee......... I have found the place in my stage of life where I am happy so the balance is satisfying. Great vlog as usual Pete look forward to part two.

Paddy is, and always will be, an inspiration for both of us! He single handedly pumped both of us up about moving to Thailand and made us feel at home here even before we moved...and that is NOT an easy task. Heck, he didn't set out to do that yet he did! He's the real deal and it's always great to see someone who deserves the recognition be recognized! Keep being amazing Paddy and the world will always follow buddy ❤️🤗❤️ Great interview!

Paddy's channel grew on me during the lockdowns. Admittedly, in the beginning I thought: yet another bloke vlogging about the kingdom big deal. The content matured, and today is of such high standard without being pretentious, becoming one of the few that stood out in the long run Hope he continues doing it. It truly was an immersive experience and cheered up many of the darker days in the last 2 years. Will surely watch pt 2

Message for Paddy: You don't have to make a decision about teaching again this week. There are more schools constantly looking for teachers than there are available teachers. Only go back into teaching if and when you're ready to do so. (I never did a TEFL but got a teaching job on THB45K per month in a matter of days and in the middle of the school year.) So, please don't feel pressurised into quick decisions about anything. P.S. Two brilliant presenters in this video! Thanks guys.

Paddy is working for a Top Notch, excellent school. He's not working for your 'average' school where they treat you like garbage LOL So while he can go back to teaching anywhere, anytime, it isn't so easy when your school is as nice and kind and willing to let you 'do your own thing' for a solid year. He's been one lucky guy, for sure...and that makes the decision much tougher.

Terrific interview! Paddy spoke of when The Naked Guru made a comment saying "if you take risks and gamble, the universe will conspire to help you". Then Paddy suggested Ryan may have read it somewhere. Perhaps. Here's one of my favorite quotes ever about this idea by William Hutchison Murray: “Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets: Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!”

With 400k in the bank Paddy could easily have gone and bought a new Honda Super Cub and eliminated all the issues of riding a 40yo Honda Dream, but then half the channel has been about the bikes will it or won't it make it adventure and he is literally along for the ride... it works and makes good content.

That's it, I've been eagerly watching to see if Dreamy packs it in. It's cool idea. That's what I like about what Paddy does. It's the little extra thing he adds into the channel to keep people hooked

Hi Pete, great channel and loving the videos. Just a quick question about Paddy’s situation, since he’s out and about and working for himself, what visa/ work permit is he on currently if any?

It's a good interview sir! I think if you yourself did some travel Vlogs of places other KZbinrs glossed over you also can add some numbers to your subscriber count. I know you have some unique cultural videos yourself such as Thai mysticism, the amulet markets etc.

Thanks, yeah i’ll probably do some in the future. I do like filming the cultural stuff although it’s very niche I think it’s really cool

I did not start a KZbin channel to be successful nor to make money. The last thing I want is to be monetized the commercials are just annoying and they tend to really hurt the quality of many shows. Many likely consider my channel boring I do not use many of the bells and whistles or T&A to attract viewers. It is more of a hobby I enjoy but I do want the viewer to experience Thailand and Southeast Asia in a very different way as I always tend to travel to locations few if ever visit off what I call the Pad Thai/ Banana Pancake highway. I watch your channel Pete because many of the interviews are interesting and you do not tend to do the same typical in my opinion stuff over and over again. Chiang Mai and Phuket have been done to death unless there is something really out of the ordinary in these locations as soon as I see the words in a title you have lost me as a viewer. A great interview with Paddy you really get to know the person better outside the safety and somewhat facade of their own channel. He is a funny and smart guy and made me laugh. Really looking forward to Part Two. You found your calling Pete you are best at interviews I agree about Siaket only spent one day there and was not impressed. I got to watch a purse snatching in progress at the local market. My hotel room was so dirty and smelled so bad was unable to sleep that night. The food was awful and unedible the worst I have ever had in Thailand. My girlfriend kept getting pestered by a motorcycle taxi. Have not been there since 2003 and likely will never go back.

Thanks for the support and this great comment mate. I do think i’ll go to Phuket and Chiang mai as there’s two people there that i’d like to interview. You’re right though those places have been done to death

@@ThairishTimes Totally understand. It is not the locations so much it's just the same content over and over again from some channels.

I'm convinced that Thailand is also requiring you to be a KZbinr to enter in addition to the Thailand pass. There's 5000 old dudes making $200 a month income if they are lucky.

Pete has become my favourite Thai Vlogger of late with his interviews. I never found Paddy Doyle's vlogs or him entertaining as in, I found him boring and wimpish; but he interviewed quite well here.
