The reason I've been watching Paddy for well over a year is that he wasn't doing all those badge of honour instagram videos, wasn't trying to promote his Samui Villa and condos for sale, not bragging about how much money he gave away to the people in distress. Paddy was and still is doing genuinely great travel videos about the provinces I will never visit. I did worry about his wellbeing at a time last year when he evacuated to Samui, but it's great seeing that he's doing well now. Those badge of honour videos do generate a lot of views but in the long run the most loyal fanbase will stick to sincere videos that create emotions. And "everybody does it" videos will remain something you watch when you just want to watch whatever that you'll forget the next moment.

Totally agree was not also using T&A to attract viewers and all the other very questionable crap. There are only a handful of channels out of Thailand I watch. The majority including their viewers just makes me cringe. If you ever wondered why the visa situation is only going to become more difficult over time is three things. (1) Guide books that are only concerned about making huge profits. (2) KZbin idiots that in truth understand little or nothing about Thailand, the Thai culture, the people, or their customs and have zero concern for the people they are attracting to Thailand. (3) The bargirl/bar/sex channels only attract criminals and the lowest of scum in my opinion. Paddy giving him credit is making an effort to do otherwise his only drawback for himself is he needs to at least learn the basics of the Thai language.

‘Selling’ KZbin travel or food content is the same as any marketing campaign or advertising. People don’t like feeling they’re being manipulated and given ‘the sell’. Content has to feel like it’s genuine. Once people get a whiff of any fakeness or trying too hard it’s game over. Genuine content will win over original content any day. Because if it’s genuine it will still be seen as original because it will have your own take on it. Yes as viewers we understand this is ‘a business’ to KZbin content creators but we don’t want to feel like we are just being used for the likes and revenue. Be passionate, be genuine, be an expert in the content you’re trying to sell (and if you’re not already - then become one!)

Hi Pete, you did a great and entertaining interview with Paddy Doyle. I didn't know him until the 1st part of the story and then I watched some of his vlogs - really very well done stuff! His current one complements your story of Kanchanaburi "A Hero Story". They are both excellent videos on the same topic, but each one is very special in its own way. Listening to you KZbinrs like this gives the impression that you are under pressure to succeed (Subscribers, Clicks, Likes & Comments = $). The real question is, are you dependent on it, or do you enjoy what you do? For example, videos about food & real estate are uninteresting to me, I love being taken into a story that has content and background. That's why I enjoy watching most of your videos. Everyone gets a like, but I can only comment on the topics that grab me. For me as a consumer it is not important how many subscribers or clicks a video has! Thairish Times, Bangkok Pat, Paddy Doyle are my top 3. But I'm aware that I'm just one piece in your viewers' puzzle. Thank you very much for this little insight into the life of KZbinrs. Greetings from Sattahip - Gerd 🌈🍀💖🌴🌈

As a consumer content is important, that is why I think so called “ Live Streams” are in my opinion just lazy ways of gaining clicks. I can only speak for myself, but I certainly don’t mind if someone puts out a video that has already been done before, ie interviews, walk arounds, cost of living, travel tips, etc, it’s the unique perspective that appeals to me and I think to others also. I think you might be in danger of over thinking it so to speak. Just keep doing what you are already doing and the rest will take care of itself.

Paddy I'm one of your fans, I'm tell you why I didn't like that video. Its nothing new more expensive food reviews and your not a food guy like Mickey Chen that's his thing. Sam Chui Airplanes. I like your video when your on the road going to small Thai towns and its relaxing for me as you ride your old vintage Honda Dream. Thats you NoT the food, that's been over done and there are other guys who are better than you at that, but they don't ride a Honda Dream in the back country of Thailand. That's my take on it. Im a journalist so I know what I'm talking about.

Pretty intense guy that I think will mellow out as he gets older. I suspect he will one day make a lot of money doing something because he seems really motivated and driven

I have an idea. Paddy could ride around India on a Royal Enfield! Actually, looking at the roads over there, maybe not such a good idea.

It's like a pop song or a movie, no one knows why one is a classic or flop or not. I used to meet the freelance photographers coming through Bangkok, they had the world tickets and a list of sites they knew would sell. Smokey Mountain was a rubbish dump outside Manilla, they could always sell photos of kids working on the dump, and I think in Bangkok it was the illegal animal trade . Sometimes they would only be gone for two weeks.

Country music is popular when people move away from the countryside. They long for what they are missing. They can buy good food but cannot buy that experience in the countryside

Paddy is awesome, but I must admit I’m getting a bit bored of many Thai based KZbinrs as there is a lot of duplication. How many times do we really want to see them visit Mark Wiens restaurant, Benjakitti park, Wow this condo only costs $300 per month, cheap Food in Chinatown etc.

Every single click bait vid ive seen on youtube is a dissapointment so i tend to watch them less in the future. Good honest content does it for me even if the subject has been covered before its refreshing to see other peoples angle.

What has happened to KZbin lately? People are overly obsessed with stats, algorithms, analysis - as a viewer it is ****ing boring hearing people talk about videos instead of showing something interesting (not this one btw) Creators are becoming overly self conscious, and some are taking themselves WAY too seriously. Surely one of the reasons you "escape" the west is to avoid the trap of chasing a dollar, people pleasing, and second guessing what a client wants/needs. make content YOU find interesting, if you chase the viewer it comes across as contrived. For me, I can enjoy a guy walking down a nice beach with a cell phone, more than fancy J Cuts, three camera angles, clickbait thumbnails, and annoying overlays that detract from the story.
@ThairishTimes2 жыл бұрын
It’s getting more and more competitive since there’s hardly any entry barriers (phone and laptop is all you need). You are right though about making content that you find interesting. That’s what keeps me interested but most will make content that they know will get views and Mark Weins restaurant is one of them
@ThairishTimes2 жыл бұрын
Passion comes across very well on camera. That’s what I believe so make the content you love

@@ThairishTimes See, I cant watch Mark, his voice grates on me....Like Jamie Oliver "look at those lovely spuds having a nice little nap over there..." Real enthusiasm comes across, overly positive hype makes the viewer feel like a product, as that doesn't reflect real life imho. Paddy shows all his breakdowns of Dreamy which keeps it real :-)
