To this day the large majority of politicians on a federal and state level refuse to demand or endorse national health care, even a shitty third rate system. Buuuut most of them are bribed not to so.... Guess that's how it works in a political class based on unlimited bribery or the more commonly used term around here "campaign" or "government" "donations". And it's been going on at this level for at least 42-ish years so.... Really not sure when it's going to change. People love money, and people love big money, and our politicians REALLY love that big money and will do just about anything to get it.

cremetangerine82 true, but if one speculates one’s tone as indicative of motive or capitulation, through total subjectivity, one could also contextualize character from the fact that though he was not part of said administration, he still referred to the perpetrators as “We” as opposed to blindly assigning blame and exonerating himself. All is fair when we start to extrapolate meaning from speculation. I tend to just stick to the fact... the simple fact is the line is taken out of context, it neither condemns nor condones, it simply is what it is.

Sure, he was a murderous, imperialist, capitalist... but that’s what it means to be the President of an aggressively militaristic capitalist empire. I’m black, so I might be genetically predisposed to liking the only Black POTUS. I’m sorry that I can’t imagine a US President not being a warmongering corporate crony. All this says to me is that Leftists need to win way more hearts and minds and allies on the grassroots level before anything is going to change. I mean, we can point out all this horrible shit liberals and conservatives alike do because they want to gain and hold on to power, but that's because that is the stuff they need to do to gain and hold to to power. People keep holding up Bernie like he's some kind of savior, and I'm not denying that Bernie has fantastic principles and the integrity to stick to them for the most part. But that's also Bernie's brand and tactic for getting into the position of power he holds. And it only worked for him because he has the "billionaires" and "Wall Street libs" and "corporate Democrats" to contrast himself to. Bernie's success in his elections is as much dependent on this system as anyone's. The distance between a truly sound democracy and economically just system and what we have in America today is so great, I don't trust anyone who claims to know the best path to get from here to there. I appreciate that in this video, you mention how much politicians like Obama are moved by popular public opinion. That, to me, is what really makes the Democratic party usually worth voting for. Yeah, they don't have principles, but they can be trusted to go where the wind blows. And then at least it's on us folks to blow in a progressive direction. Opposed to the GOP who court fascists for votes and seem to have been taken over by rich white guys who think the only purpose of government is to secure their right to hoard wealth.

Martha Knox Great comment. Hated to see it but the Bernie supporters didn’t even come out to vote for him in the primaries. Low voter turn out in his base. So leftists want to change the whole system but can’t vote in a primary? But they’ll self pleasure themselves about criticizing Robert Walpole, or “getting a thrill” from telling righties that they ALSO don’t like the previous president. That’s....NOT helpful. Let’s remember outright fascism is in the streets trying to crush our freedom out of us and here we are with more criticism of Robert Walpole....like frankly, I don’t give a chit about Robert effing Walpole. I don’t give a chit about how Harold Macmillan sucked. I don’t give a chit about how Calvin Coolidge sucked. Focus on NOW

@@praetentious2925 I wish I understood why young people today still don't vote. I keep reading these things that say young people today care a lot about many political issues such as climate change and social justice, and yet they still don't vote. I don't get it 'cause I did vote as a young person. I've always voted. It's not like it's some big huge inconvenience. In fact, it was way easier to vote when I was in my 20's than now that I'm in my 40's with 2 young kids and 4 different part time jobs. In fact, because I had way more time when I was younger, I volunteered more, and wrote more letters to public officials and to newspapers about issues, and went to more rallies and events for political issues. Politics has always seemed important to me because it directly impact my life and everyone else's! Argh, such is life I guess. We'll be ruled by Boomers until they die. Hopefully the left-leaning young people who don't vote will still be left-leaning when they actually start participating in democracy.

Thank you for sticking to the facts on this. I end up in arguments with conservatives and they ALWAYS think I love Obama. Nah. He did all the things you spoke of in this video, and so no, I don't like the guy. He seems like he'd be nice to hang out with and has a decent personality, but that doesn't matter if he is a war criminal. This is what real leftists think. Just bums me out that there's so many people who think he was totally fine, and another half of the country that hate him for conspiratorial reasons, and neither wants to address the REAL issues he had in the first place.

Dude, little comic relief bits in your inflection, in this case the way you say “the money” is the only way I can watch these videos and absorb the info without getting so foaming at the mouth exhaustiraged that I have to take a handful of beta blockers and lie down on the floor before my heart explodes. It hits a good balance imo. Leaning too much into outright jokes to bring the tension back to a simmer would easily risk detailing and/or fucking up the tone too much, but playing it totally straight... Slipping little bits of inflection goofs hits the nail on the head. Thank you. At this point I want to stay informed but it’s so hard to absorb even a moderate dose of the poison without it eating my brain. You get into some rough topics but always manage, for me at least, to walk the tightrope in whatever way the subject matter calls for. Pretty much the only place where I can take in this subject matter without having to dedicate a few hours to calming down afterwards. Edit: and you don’t smooth over the anger. The sarcasm and tiny goofs would just feel insulting if you hid your anger but they blend well here. Cause anger is fuckin called for. EDIT TWO: still barely made it to the end (my health is in the shitter and undertreated so increased stress and tension immediately intensify pain so it’s not just that I’m making that big a deal outta being upset by CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY) but I wrote this before finishing the video (bad look, bad habit, usually avoid it) and I’m back again with one more bit of praise for how you make this bearable: that eyeball zone transition. Swear to god I’m getting Pavlovian conditioning to that thing. Brain goes “time for dwelling on unspeakable horror is done we’re in the eyeball zone now”. Think I said this once before but I’m so glad you worked the transitions back in. As much as I loved them showing up in the middle, I think you made the right call by moving them to the end. But there’s something soothing about the script slipping into ominous eyeball talk. The eyeball zone may be a terrifying and alien realm where we are always under the inescapable gaze of lord oculon, but honestly considering our current reality the occasional vacation to it is kind of nice.

Maybe it's just cause I literally wasn't alive long enough to see a better president than Obama, but I feel like it's probably too much to expect any president to be entirely good. As just one person they can only do so much, and the system they're put in charge of has as much control over them as they do as it's "leader". In that light, I feel like if a president can do just a tiny bit to send the country in an upwards trajectory compared to their predecessor, that can be seen as a win in spite of the uh... war crimes

US Presidents have FAR LESS power than we seem to believe. Congress and the Supreme Court easily halt anything they would like to do or what they campaigned on. As far as anything domestic, there isn't much they really control. We haven't done a good job teaching children how our govt. works. Fringe left and fringe right are unreasonable and un-realistic. As far as foreign affairs go, The president does have more pull. basically they represent us to the world. We live in a world where hard choices have to be made regarding foreign challenges. most of the time it's the lesser of 2 evils unfortunately. No matter what decisions are made, someone is going to come up with conspiracies to bitch about. Obama followed a whole bunch of war criminals and came into office with a brutal recession. republicans blocked everything he advocated for. Biden came in to office following a wrecking ball who destroyed everything and everyone in his path and is still causing upheaval. Let's put the blame where it belongs. the US public. the ignorance and complacency and laziness has hurt a lot of people and allowed Trump to profit from his lies and manipulation. He doesn't care about vulnerable people in our society or the world. He doesn't care about his followers and he doesn't even care about his family.

For what it's worth, the guy knew how to get people fired up, and the ACA was Not Nothing. (And even that was nearly torpedoed by conservative Democrats, DESPITE ALREADY BEING ROMNEY'S HEALTHCARE PLAN) Even by late his second term, I think, I was starting to realize 'drones bad, hey why is guantanamo bay STILL open' but He was better, I think, than what came before, but it's hard to be worse than Bush

Well, I was enthused about Clinton I in 1992, but that was mostly because our wonderful free press lied about him, and because I was sure "anything is better than Bush I." lol. Clinton rescinded the anti-abortion Global Gag Order in the first week of his Presidency and that was the first and only time I felt proud of my vote. I never voted for him again, and now I bitterly regret the Clintons and their DLC getting a death grip on the party which no can or will break, now or ever.
