Yesterday I cooked my very first thanksgiving dinner and I feel the need to thank babish for coaching me through a badass thanksgiving dinner that blew my whole family away

The comfort content I didn't know I needed. I live in the UK where thanksgiving is not a thing but saving this for Christmas!
@bubbly99011 ай бұрын
Sometimes watching one Babish episode by itself can be a bit intimidating, more entertainment than inspiration, because you're so competent and there's so much to do to put a successful Thanksgiving together. But watching this marathon all together, the common threads between the episodes become clearer, and watching you do variations on the same theme over and over is weirdly confidence-boosting. It brings the huge and significant Thanksgiving Dinner down to, well, just food. Thanks for that; it means a lot.
@darlordvader11 ай бұрын
Also keep in mind that as competent as Babish is, as intimidating as some of his stuff can look, he makes mistakes just like we do 😅 if something comes out slightly wrong treat it as a learning experience and learn it for the next time. You can do it!

Or just purée if you talk to anyone French... Just stick with the recipe from Joël Robuchon who wrote the book on mashed potatoes, and his recipe involves a whole lot less trouble... The trick is to use waxy, rather than starchy potatoes... You actually don't really want all that starch in your mash... That said, the excessive amounts of butter seem about right...

Alternatively, take your largest microwave-safe bowl and fill it with cubed potatoes, a couple of onions, some pepper, salt, garlic, and butter. Microwave for about ten minutes, stir, microwave another ten minutes, stir, etc. until fully cooked. Stir in some cream cheese and cream, maybe some blue cheese. Can also be done with some broth too. Works with any kind of potato. (should work with sweet potatoes too.)

That sweet potato casserole he made in the "yams from F.R.I.E.N.D.S" section is so similar to my grandmother's sweet potatoes, without the whiskey marshmallow topping. She calls it a "sweet potato souffle", and they are the lightest, smoothest, most delicious thing you have ever put in your mouth. To this day, I have no idea how she gets them that smooth and fluffy. 😍
