I love your uncle story! Stories that take us back to family meals are what makes holiday food so memorable. When my oldest son was about 5, he’s 32 now, he kept asking for more “clothes food”. It took all of us quite awhile to realize he was asking for dressing!

I fully expect there will be some debate as to whether this is called "stuffing" or "dressing" and it will largely be based on geography and cooking method. I don't have a dog in this race, so it doesn't matter to me. Also, the stuffing/dressing recipe at the end of this video is very simple by design. I wanted something folks could whip up with almost no effort or that they could add to if they wanted. There are numerous great suggestions in the comments for how to amp up the stuffing, so give them a look.

Growing up I was always told stuffing was cooked in a bird and dressing was cooked in a pan.
@babybugtoo5 жыл бұрын
In our home, stuffing was loose like this and could be used to fill the bird because it didn't have anything that needed extra cooking. Dressing was more firm, able to be sliced and contained more veg (mushrooms, carrot), a meat (like sausage), and a binder which needed extra cooking time. Occasionally, apples or chestnuts were added depending on type of meat used in or with the dressing. Then there's oyster stuffing which is a whole new ball game.

We call it stuffing even though I make it inside and outside of the bird
@elisrae28844 жыл бұрын
Growing up, stuffing and dressing were two different dishes altogether. Stuffing was the same recipe used for both inside the bird and in a pan. Dressing was made with cornbread, shredded chicken, a bunch of spices, and chicken stock and baked in a pan. Both delicious, both super different recipes lol

I tried this recipe and it was pretty good. • I would use 2X or even 3X amount of herbs for the recipe. It really has a mild, almost weak stuffing flavor. • Also, I find the stuffing very dry and would add more than the 1 cup of chicken stock at 7:27. Overall, this is a great base for a starting point and it's worth making, thanks Steve!!!

Early September might seem too early to be thinking about holiday recipes but ... gotta start experimenting now so I don't cave and eat the 'real' stuff for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I knew I could count on you to come up with something that tastes good. But ... if the chaffles taste and feel like stuffing, I'll just be reheating them in the waffle iron, break them up, and serving with gravy. :)

Me too. So far, all I've got from last year is a homemade cranberry sauce/made into a homemade cran/raspberry/sour cream dessert my mom makes.
