If your family is not actively confrontational, but still tense and uncomfortable, BOARD GAMES. You don't have to talk to them, and you don't have to hate your life.

you know we live in a sad, awful world when people have to make advisory videos in order to help others stay safe from their own families...*sigh* I wish it were unnecessary, but...unfortunately that's just reality. :(

I always joke that my least favourite holiday is thanksgiving, but my favourite is the day after thanksgiving. I don't love all the stress and the cleaning and the people who don't get along, but I do like eating leftover pie for breakfast

My parents and family are all from England, but we live in America, so although we don't have to celebrate Thanksgiving, (thank god) I do have to deal with all of the kids at school being weird about it, teasing me, and saying that I'm weird. Although for Brits, Christmas is when we all get together so I can't really avoid the family events. Right now I'm out to my parents as trans but not my extended family so I really hope they don't tell them yet because I'm not ready. Sorry about the venting!

(I'm not done watching the video yet.) Every thanksgiving my family goes around the table and makes everyone say one thing they're thankful for, and I think this year my thing will be that this holiday makes me feel happy and safe instead of scared and trapped.

I like how you've moved to a more relaxed structure with your videos and are just letting yourself riff more with stories and jokes. (You also seem way more comfortable when you're sitting down) Even with all of the great advice you give, the fantastic guests you have, and even the hilarious waffle videos; i think that the main reason most of us are subscribed to this channel is because we like YOU (and you also happen to post really cool/informative videos). I know I for one wouldnt mind if you posted some stream of consciousness videos or a videos of you just talking about some things you're passionate about (maybe a movie or TV show or something) every once in a while. Also, your transition has been impeccable

Solid advice, Jackson! I come from a loving home and I can't relate to the hardships of those in the LGBTQ+ community since I am a white mostly straight Jewish female, but doing what makes you comfortable and happy during tough holidays is the best you can do. Be yourself as much as you can. Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving!

I'm a white straight female living in a happy family and I don't live in America, so we don't even celebrate thanksgiving. But, man, this was beautiful! The advice you gave were really great, not only for the holidays but in general. I know some people who are going through a rough period in their lives, ant this video is just the right thing to show to them. Thank you so much!

I think it is important to select your own family to spend time with, not necessary the one you are born into. You are the most important person, the one who needs to be happy, especially during the holiday season. Most people don't think that friends can be closer to you than people you are related to by blood, but I know that it is true for me!!! I love having my friends in my life and I'd rather spend time with them, than with my family. Standing up for yourself all the time, that you spend with your family, having to fight through the whole time, taught me, that I don't need to spend time with them.

needed this video, especially this year. thankfully i work on thanksgiving, so i'll be missing all the "festivities" anyway. can't say i'm too bothered by this, which is sad since this holiday is meant to be about celebrating togetherness and family, despite it's actual origins.

Good tips - hope your Thanksgiving went relatively well. Gilmore Girls is pretty great! The new season has a lot of references to the older episodes though so I'd recommend finishing at least seasons 1-6 before watching the new episodes.

In my country we have this tradition on Christmas Eve that we share sort of a wafer with every member of the family, exchange wishes and then we have Christmas dinner together. And I absolutely hate it. I get paranoid and panic over this *weeks* before Christmas. It's insane how uncomfortable it makes me feel every. single. time. This year it's even worse because my sister got married and the guy, who I don't particularly like, will be present at this dinner. Also I got in a huge fight with my sister a couple of months ago and we haven't spoken since. So... I don't know how to deal with this whole debacle. It's painful, man.

My family now knows i'm trans because my dad told every one last month! Thanks DAD! My mom's side of the same kinda knows but some of them don't have Facebook and I am not in the mood to come out to my grampy because he is not the kind of guy that wants his granddaughter to be a grandson. Then again he loves me no matter what!

Abusive family protip: Don't get in the car with them, always drive yourself if you have a car, and always park somwhere you can't get boxed in. Even though my parents are much better than they used to be, an escape plan is still a major priority whenever I visit my family.

Cameron Self I know. I was being nice to Jackson. It's one of my favourite sandwiches. It's just funny to watch non-Aussies eat vegemite though. And marmite doesn't count, it's not vegemite. Different taste and texture.

I only really like the food at thanksgiving I don't like the history of the holiday My family is very very very Christian except for ONE 4 person family on my dad's side who are complete atheists so there are lots of arguments about weather god exists My family isn't huge but it's big and everyone comes to my house at once I have really cool naturally colored hair it's auburn with natural blond highlights and I recently cut it short with my discovery of my gender identity and I am completely in the closet to my extended family so I hear "YOU SHOULD GROW YOUR HAIR OUT AGAIN!" 21 times a minute

You are so nauseating...you take cultural dogmas...as ultimate world truths....check your premises .... Socrates all I know , is I know nothing... your are under the impression that you " know" anything....you are smart and articulate how you feel very well....but you don't love yourself...Freud called it life lies, Satre called it bad faith...you are deep in the subjectiveity of existing...but I respect you as a human it's your thinking process I don't agree with ....and you trying to tell kids how to think ...is like the blind leading the inoccent... everyone feels like they don't belong even the stereotypical hot athletic quarterback and the hot cheerleader...you can argue they feel it more then you...just because they are good at hiding it ...doesn't mean everyone feels alienation and unworthy-ness...what are you reading....your reading books that throw what you want to hear back in your face. ...read the " enemies" book too ...people these days think they are the only ones that suffer.....now that is an ultimate truth ...to live is to suffer ...
