Thank you for your very apt video. I too am definitely an addict - addicted to mindless scrolling and to the thoughtless spending and instant fake gratification of online shopping. I certainly feel that it is negatively affecting my brain, my relationships, and the way I feel. Now that I see my own children get sucked into this addiction as well, I am horrified and yet am not sure how to help them steer away from it. I guess I need to start with rehabilitating myself.

I can imagine how frustrating that must feel. Maybe try swapping online shopping or mindless scrolling for something you enjoy, like painting, walking, or even selling things online. For me, daily walks made a big difference in curbing my scrolling habit. I also started writing before bed, which really helped. Think about activities you love-it might make a positive change for you and your kids too! 😊 Thank you for your comment

I really appreciate this video! Ironic that algorithmic telepathy recommended your video to me (as you say in the video) because I was just cursing technology a few hours ago. I went to dinner with a friend with whom I talk on the phone often (work related), but I have not seen her in person for nearly six months. Though we do not live far from each other in the same city, we simply have no reason to meet. She is phone addicted and looked at her phone through most of the meal, and I can discern that she feels more comfortable talking with me over the phone rather than in person. The last cell/smart phone I had was in 2015. I gave it up and returned to a flip phone, and now I have returned to the old-fashioned landline, which is laughed at, despite landlines enduring through the recent hurricanes while cellular networks were knocked out! I have reduced my Internet use significantly, no social media, except KZbin, which I use mostly for alternative news. I am turning into a hermit, but at least that damn phone does not rule my life, though ironically it rules in absentia because one is limited without it!

I’m so glad the KZbin gods telepathically sent you my video-ahahaha! I think having an old-fashioned landline is a great idea, even without hurricanes! It’s true, people seem to be losing the ability to just be present with each other, and eye contact feels like a lost art. It’s sad how much more comfortable many people are “socializing” behind a screen. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 😊
