This is the same logic as when the activists with cameras went into a slaughterhouse and recorded a cow bleeding out of its eyes, nose and ears being fed into a Buffalo chopper. It resulted in meat testing and the largest beef recall in US history, AND a law to be passed that prohibited cameras from being taken into slaughterhouses

It doesn’t just work on a few people. It works on most people. Used to work for a builder before I got out of construction, and this was talked about all the time. It varies from state to state on how they handle it to get around fixing anything, but they all do it, and it works the vast majority of the time. Most people are not as informed as this audience, and there is a very incorrect bias to believe builders because they are viewed as the expert. The problem is, they are the expert, but they are experts at ripping people off, not at building homes correctly.

Cy is not just good for Arizona, he is a National Treasure. I live in California, and have noticed that many real estate agents encourage their clients not to get home inspections or the deal might fall through. They make it seem like the deal going through is the most important thing, whether you are buying junk or not. I sent my daughter, who lives in Nevada, many of your videos before she bought her house. It is only because of that good advice that she asked for a home inspection. When the home inspection came back, there was a list of "required" versus "recommended" fixes. My daughter's real estate agent said that only the "required" would be fixed, presumably because she wanted the deal to hurry up and go through to get her commission. She argued with my daughter on this, it was crazy. My daughter said if they were not all fixed, she would back out, and she would get no commission. Imagine her surprise when everything suddenly got fixed. You are helping more people than you know, Cy, and in a lot more places than Arizona. An educated consumer is less likely to get ripped off. Let this be a lesson to other home inspectors that doing your job correctly and honestly will always bring you more success than being crooked. Thanks, Cy.

I'm sure my comment will be lost in the slew of other comments here, but I want to provide an example of how a large corporation like this SHOULD behave. . I used to work for a large restaurant chain (2000 locations, 1000 of them being the brand I worked for). They had an internal team strictly devoted to health inspections: every store would be visited regularly (once per month-ish) to ensure they never got a bad score from the local health inspector. Standards were VERY high and training was repeated quarterly to ensure compliance.

Home inspectors are worth their cost. My brother bought a house and opted not to pay for a home inspection, because the house looked nice (which it did); however, there were foundational issues (house built on a hill) and he ended up paying _thousands_ to fix the issues that it caused, along with the problem of not being able to use their master bathroom during the time because that's where the problems ended up. They moved out a few years later. When we bought our home a couple or so years later, paid for the inspection, found little things we didn't even consider to be problems but would have denied us insurance coverage, and allowed us to fix the problems (which took less than an hour of time). We've been living here for 13 years.

There should be no wasting of valuable state regulatory commission time: As a self initiated complainant a commercial actor should be required to pay billable hours for commission time expended where their initiated complaint is dismissed as frivolous, of minor consequence or of a repetitive nature (effectively a retaliation). The inspector complained against should also be able to obtain their basic service fee from a commercial complainant also when the regulatory claim is dismissed for those same reasons above.

When we got our new family house built in the early 1980's my parents had to call them back numerous times to rectify issues. The workers and supervisor got a tad more belligerent with each new fault and were talking in another language while on the job (it was family group of subcontractors). Unfortunately for them my mother, while born here, had parents and sibling all born in Eastern Europe prior to WW2, and she grew up speaking a pigeon mix-match of several eastern European languages plus English and could understand what they were saying ... in detail ... which is how we discovered a few more major faults that we hadn't noticed yet. Even more unfortunately for them, my mother told my father what they were saying when he got home form work. My father was a pretty big guy, 6' 4, solid, covered in 1960's era south east asian tattoos he got while serving in Vietnam and was still in the Army in the 1980's, and was a literal 'Drill Instructor', who would fly off the handle violently very easily. Our problems with our new house were resolved VERY quickly, including some major work that involved tearing down a few brick walls to replace pipes - by the new work crew that arrived the next day. Not sure how long it was before the first work crew were able to work again ... I bought that same house in the early 2000's and as of today - it's still going strong, never had an issue with it other than replacing the hot water system ;)

No one wants to make a claim against their homeowner's insurance policy, but is it an option in cases like this? Once the insurance rep finds out that it should be covered under warranty by the builder will they just drop the claim and tell you to take it up with the builder or can you have the insurance company's lawyers get involved if the builder isn't being responsive?

I wish Colorado had the same protection as Arizona. Here the only recourse is court. The state has no process of punishing home builders once its built.

There's room for someone to make an above board finishing company who comes in to finish off service work from inspections like this at the expense of the builders, so that the builder doesn't have to be responsible for fixing their own work.

If I buy a new car I expect it to be perfect. The doors should work and not be full of bondo. Why should a house be any different. Its 20x the price.

They do this with new cars too. Those under body shields are designed to hold fluids with vents pointed upwards. So puddles don't form under the car. Then at speed the air flow blows it all away. Techs aren't allowed to tell you there's a leak either, the manufacturer claims its warranty upselling. Why do you think so many people have 'issues' right after their car is out of warranty?

@Nobody_important_at_all main issue is maintenance intervals the 10k oil changes is to last till warranty is up and get the money from the epa. The epa is why they lie about the intervals. And no offense that vent conspiracy is bull shit.. Those shields are for gas mileage/ aero because of the epa guidelines.

@@coletrain3333 ohhh sorry. Forgot to mention. You're speaking to a master level technician. I've seen plenty of electric steering racks with caked on oil that would say otherwise. I've removed and reinstalled enough of them to see how they work, you obviously cannot say the same.

TBH I dont understand these American houses. Why are they covered in stucco and chicken wire. I have rarely seen outdoor stucco in Australia. But my house and most of those around me are 80 years old. But most houses I've been to are brick, concrete, wood or weatherboard/fibro. Some people get rendered brick. But it is thick concrete with a smooth finish. The render inside my place is 15-20mm thick.

“80 years old” - Well, there’s your answer. Standards often relax over the decades, are skirted, or, ignored outright. Builders claim building to 80 year old standards is unprofitable and would make cookie cutter houses unaffordable to the average buyer. Unfortunately, that’s partly true. Still, this becomes the excuse for going with subcontractors offering the lowest bids and hiring unskilled workers who will accept minimum wage. The end result are “homes” that are slapped together with the least amount of materials and effort. 🤷🏻‍♂️
