I saw that second story on reddit earlier today and OP posted an update, looks like the rogue player is a resident at a children's hospital and one of the patients died that day. First story: I’ve seen a few comments ragging on OP for the way they handled it, but what were they meant to do? Spoil the puzzle for everyone who hadn’t heard it before? Sit back and watch while someone tried to steal credit for their work? The DM is unquestionably the asshole here. Second story: Yeah, Rogue did this to himself. It’s his own fault for murderhoboing. Third story: The chaotic good alignment is basically “screw the rules, I’m doing what’s right!” It is NOT “hurr durr I’m going to kill everything in my path because I’m so random, lol.” If the DM doesn’t want a murderhobo campaign, they need to grow a spine and give the PCs consequences for their actions. They need to tell the players they aren’t playing their alignments. They need to do SOMETHING! Good on OP and their boyfriend for leaving. Here’s hoping they find a better campaign! Fourth story: Coffee didn’t want to play D&D. He wanted to play a single-player adventure RPG with dating sim elements.

Totally agree on the CG thing. I’m currently playing a Leonin Barbarian who’s in that alignment. He kills monsters who hurt his party members, but other than that he’s a big old goof who tries to do the right thing... but doesn’t understand that there are rules. Then again, he grew up in a travelling tribe of mercenaries, so... The point is, Chaotic Good is called GOOD for a reason. It’s not an excuse to kill everyone because “lol so random”. Hell, even Chaotic Evil wouldn’t make sense for that. No alignment does because it’s just such an out of field thing to do. I can’t even begin to imagine the thought process that makes someone go “Ah yes, let me just murder everyone in the room and then blame it on my moral alignment.”

In terms of remembering the username, to be fair some people use names that are not at all easy to remember. I can't blame the guy fr not remembering if it was written by, say, "(initials)823" or something. That said, that was, in my opinion, a good way to handle knowing the answer. I've run and played a lot of games with riddles and puzzles that myself or someone else knew OOC and that tends to be more or less the way we've handled it, either that or, if our characters had lower INT, they just were stumped. GM never should claimed the riddles were his, though.

On the pirate story, I can see how a silly and over-the-top murderhobo game might be fun, but everybody has to be on board. Someone who is expecting a relatively serious game but ends up in a murderhobo festival might not be pleased with the situation. I wonder if video games are at least partially responsible for murderhobos. Going back to the earliest days of computer RPGs, many video games have rewarded or even required murderhobo behavior. To this day, I still remember repeatedly going murderhobo on a town in Ultima III - it was populated by weak clerics and had no guards, so a low level party could exterminate all the townspeople to grind for gold and experience, which was necessary to progress in the game. Towns in Ultima III would reset upon exit, so all of the NPCs would come back to life and could be murdered over and over again. Naturally, there were few consequences for doing this (only trapped chests that dead NPCs would leave behind, but this was true for all monsters in the game). This conditioned me to expect video games to be like this, so when the next entry in the series, Ultima IV, had consequences for going murderhobo on a town (not doing evil things was a major requirement to win the game), it was quite a shock, but I soon decided that it was a good thing, as having the hero be able to murder towns without consequence never made sense to me. Sometimes, people need to let off steam, so having a murderhobo one-shot might be a nice diversion on occasion, but I wouldn't want to join a long term murderhobo campaign. In a video game, I'll sometimes murder a bunch of NPCs when I get in the mood to be destructive, but then I won't save the game afterwards. Or I can just play Goat Simulator when I'm in that kind of mood.

I think that OP in the first story handled the situation rather well given what had happened. Seeing as they had actually wrote the riddles, it was a good thing to have their character sit back and let the other players try to figure out the puzzle themselves. And after all the flak they started to get for how they were acting and evening being called a liar, it was more than justified for them to show proof they were the creator of the riddles once the DM tried taking credit for OPs work. Yea, it kinda sucks that you potentially just stopped a campaign for the remaining players, but maybe they wouldn't take it so hard once they realized how much of an ass the DM was being by lying about making certain content for their campaign while trying to pass other people's work off at their own. Honestly, if I was one of the other players, I would have gladly left that table myself to find a more honest DM once that current one was revealed to be how they were.

Wrong, F*cking wrong, the first thing the LG Paladin do was to CREMATE A WOMAN BECAUSE HE ACUSES HER OF WITCHCRAFT, literally he go to the woman, ask for free samples of healing potions, the woman say "Sorry, no can do" and he scream "WICHTCRAFT!!!", pour oil and then toss a torch in the npc... when the guards come to see wtf is happening, the two fighters and the druid HELP THE PALADIN BC HE IS LG AND DO A GOOD THING, their exact words... in that moment I say, "ok, roll iniciative", the guards win the iniciative bc they were only lvl 3 and the guards were lvl 8, almost one shot the CG Fighter and, when the Paladin try to use "Healing wounds" in the Fighter i told him "Oh yeah, no can do, you see, you lost your powers righ now" "WHAT?! HOW COME I LOST MY POWERS?! THAT´S BULLSH*T!!!" "Yeeeeeah, you see, all paladins have something called oath, if you break the oath, you lose the powers, Understand? Ok, you are a Paladin of Pelor, God of Sun, Healing and Good.... AND YOU F*CKING KILL A NPC ONLY BC SHE DOESNT GIVE YOU FREE SAMPLES OF SOMETHING THAT COST 50GP YOU BRICKHEAD!!", then he told me how come that he do that in WoW and dont lose his powers... in that moment I told him how he ca´t use the powers, so he can do anything else, he attack the guard, fail (epic 1), the guard parry, crits him, máximun damage and one kill hit, he throw a tamtrum, try the party to leave the game, only CG fighter go with him and I end the game hours laters, never again let him come to a game and also, when ppl ask me if was he a green (we say green for ok ppl, yellow to maybe yes maybe no ppl and red to non ok ppl) I told them darkest red you ever see in your life

I do not think that the second story is as bad as it first seems. The rogue seems to have misread the situation, probably thinking when the DM said that the mercenary captain was powerful that she was a couple of levels higher than the characters, and where looking over her gear revealed it to be good, there was no hint of magic. So the rogue was thinking that a good sneak attack would either killer her out right or at least badly injure her, and even if she survived his attack he probably though that he could take a few hits off her before having to worry. So being killed with just one attack came as a shock, and the player acted without thinking. I think that most players would be in a bit of shock if a character that they are playing, that has a few levels under their belt was killed by a single attack from full health. For me the thing that at least suggests the player was not that bad, is that the next day, once he had time to cool down and think through what had happened, he messaged the group asking what they wanted him to play next without any comments about how his rogue had been killed.

Maybe pirates on TV but pirates as a whole were not all cut from the same cloth. Yeah there were murderous pillagers, then there were brigands (pirates that hunt other pirates) and freedom seekers from escaped slaves to gay and transgender people turning to piracy because they were already viewed as criminals just for existing and would be safer on the open sea. Saying that all pirates were evil murder hobos is kind of a cheap cop out for not knowing real pirate history. They would have been more realistic as pirates if they actually fit their alignments, a group of misfits from all walks of life, banding together for survival and turning to the seas for solace. One of the most realistic depictions of pirates out there is the show Our Flag Means Death.

The pirates are literally made up of war orphans, escaped slaves, former prisoners of war, former farmers that lost their crops in attacks and disabled former soldiers that were tossed aside. They aren't doing "evil" things just because they're "evil", they're doing what they're doing so their children can eat for the second time this week, a rare treat for them. As for the pirates of the old days, have you never heard of the phrase "History is written by the winners of the fight." The literal point of that phrase is to state that when it comes to historical "bad guys" and "good guys" the writer is an unreliable narrator who is naturally going to spin the truth to make one side look good or even god ordained and the other look evil. These are the same people that thought women doing math was witchcraft punishable by death. You really need to update your knowledge or understand that history is more nuanced than good and evil and modern anthropology working to fix centuries of bs. Let me guess, you also believe that Samurais had strong codes of honor and nobility? Afterall, that's how people describe them and portray them on TV. The reality is that they were just hired brutes, their "honor" came from just following their masters orders. Orders that included setting shops on fire that skipped out on taxes or "protection money, selling young children to sex slavery as payment for their parents gambling debts and murder, in broad daylight, right in the middle of the street. Ronan were swordsman that didn't swear themselves to a master, that's it, some helped people and some committed crimes but the history as written by the wealthy Lord's, Yakuza and merchants that owned Samurai tells a biased story. COME ON DM DO IT UP!! PUNISH THE ASSHOLES THE RIGHT WAY!! Alternatively, bards love to tell stories of fame and fortune but that works the same for death and torture... party keeps doing looting and slaughtering, that same bard is more than happy to let the next 5 towns along the way know that you are coming and when you get there they are waiting with more people than the party can handle no matter what they do. They are told to surrender and be given trial or die... let them choose, trial cool they are disarmed and armored and jailed, if die then they get to fight but the 5 wizards and 7 clerics and 50 archers and 45 swords and the adult gold dragon that was called for backup will make sure that the party doesn't get to round 2.

Riddle dungeon horror story: always a jerk move to tell the answers to a mystery you got from a meta source. Riddle dungeons are not my favorite, but posting the answers to all the riddles for all the party to see is flipping the table for everyone playing. That op is also inconsistent with if the dm said they wrote the riddles because they accuse them of looking up the answers online prior to posting the answers. That kind of calls the whole thing into doubt for me, especially when op says the riddles/answers were posted on the server used to recruit players and they removed it afterwards. If you wanted to prove it, I would think you would keep the records there; removing it muddied the waters. I do a lot of Call of Cthulhu games, and you run into similar issues because you find out part of the way through that you played this one before. Mystery based games the gm often changes or lies about certain details of the adventure so you preserve the mystery. Ie, running the Haunting but moving the thing from one area of a house to another, not stating the name of the module, or some such. It happens sometimes that someone has played a scenario before, but spilling the beans is bad form because you ruin the game for the others. Curious players usually just excuse themselves and do not try to ruin the experiance for everyone.
@thekaiser38152 жыл бұрын
So, the op should have just lat the DM get away with lying, or deal with the DM's hostility, as for I consistency I to am autistic I can confirm there are times when we can be inconsistent in how we tell things, it's not that we are lying, it's for we have trouble processing the information we are Shering. And again DM stole OPs work and tried to pass it of as there own, if the only way to expose that is to show evidence then so be it. The game is not more important than the truth.
@rynowatcher2 жыл бұрын
@@thekaiser3815 reason the inconsistency matters is it conflicts with OP's story. If they accused them of looking up the answers, it undermines the statement that the dm took credit for writing the riddles. Might be op was confused about what was happening, but that makes his actions of spoiling the riddles for the other players worse because it was based on a misunderstanding that they never worked out. I read this as op lying outrightly and goggling answers to the riddles the gm was using as they said they removed their post after this happened, and concealing coroborating evidence is typically something liars do because they do not want evidence of the truth being out there. Seems inconsistent with the actions of someone that values the truth. Still a jerk move in the best case, in my book; have your own opinion about it if you find mine unsatisfactory. The truth absolutely does not matter in a game. It is an online game, and I could see a gm lying about if they wrote some riddles online to keep cheaters from googling them if he got them online. Sure, it is a lie, but it is a lie to facilitate game play; just like if a villainous NPC lies to the party and says the bridge is safe even though the gm knows the bridge is not safe. This is a game of pretend with some dice; truth in game matters because it is the structure needed to run the game. Truth outside of the game does not; yes, let the dm say they wrote Tomb of Horrors and do not make a big deal out of it because letting that one slide will not ruin anyone's night, but flipping the table will. This is the op showing the dungeon map of a module because they got into an argument of if the floor tiles are blue in this room. I do a lot of Call of Cthulhu games, and I on occasion get into a game I forgot that I ran. The proper thing to do is to exit the game when you realize you know the mystery if that is the focus of the game, not blurt out the answers on your way out or hang in the back and give the answers when you get tired of waiting. You are getting in the way of other people's fun.

1st Story taking somebody else work & credit and that fraud DM gets his lies called out and kicks out OP. You have people like this IRL sadly. 2nd Story: Rouge is just another problem player that wants to hit things GTA style. 3rd Story: Is it just a toxic group of people overall.
@wolfyblackknight83212 жыл бұрын
story one I just got to say that if your gonna steal someone else work you should be prepared for the possibility of meeting the person who made it some day story two I'm not going to fault the rouge for wanting a set of great armor but the idea to attack them alone while they have it on was a really bad idea like shooting someone in the face in time square on camera bad. if you just want really good armor talk them up "pardon my bluntness but I couldn't help admiring your armor. and after hearing of your reputation and what you've accomplished I simply must know who crafted such a high quality piece of equipment" or alternatively make friends get in close maybe accompany them on a quest or something and if they get close to death and you have plausible deniability of "that person died they didn't need it anymore. yeah it was probably illegal to loot the body but it was really good armor." in short be smart and weight your options not everything has to be killed and looted story three just reminds me of seth skorowskys video on evil character alinement and how to be "evil" while still being a team player also yeah total murder hobos and maybe the dm needs to ether have a serious talk or have serious consequences of when they do evil without thinking. kill a crew mate when everyone is pushed to the limit with work already? "congratulations your now traveling slower because you don't have enough crew to keep things running" "turn them into an undead minion? " "hope your keeping close track of when your control over them ends because if your not they could kill more crew or attack one of you" also people might not want to willingly work for people who kill and turn the crew into undead minions. a good evil character knows how to be on a team and work together and not get them flagged as evil and in need of killing. also the barb could of just held the crew mate that annoyed him off the side of the ship threatened them and explain how said crewmate angered them and not very subtlety imply that next time they might find themselves with several broken bones if they anger them again" Coffee really wasn't thinking that out. a lot of people seem to struggle with the concept of "I want these people to like me I know I'll kill this person they like so that person isn't my competition" tends to just end with everyone hating them for attacking friends and loved ones and tends to get you thrown off teams because no one wants to have the killer attack them next. and for some reason they can't seem to think about what others want and maybe just maybe that being helpful and not selfish might help them make friends and get closer to people. "in short don't be a selfish jerk other people have feelings and wants and it isn't all about you. especially in a team game like dnd "

ey Doge, just a heads-up, you might want to warn more specifically for stories where somebody gets SA'd so hard there's dismemberment. I know it was OP who just called it 'some NSFW,' but that was a hell of an understatement. No hard feelings, just some constructive criticism. On the other hand, 'thanks Obama' was so unexpected it took me tf out X'D

For the Pirate Hobos story... I don't think she really understands what Lawful Good means, as she made that character intending to join a pirate game, and she *definitely* doesn't understand what a pirate is. Hint: Not the good guys.
