Dragons' Den

2 жыл бұрын

William delivers a confident and polished pitch to The Dragons, asking for £65,000 in exchange for a 10% stake in his "Clever Bin". It's a solar-powered street bin, complete with an alarm and GPS tracking, which he is aiming to sell to local authorities, but at that price, The Dragons wouldn't even advertise on it.
Season 7, Episode 4.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

There are companies that would not bat an eye at spending 1M / year on this. When it comes to advertising companies advertise almost anywhere so the fact that its on the side of a waste bin wouldn't matter. Sanitory towel maufacturers, car manufacturers, fast food outlets, mortgage lenders, etc. I sold advertising for 10 years and this would sell. Whether it would sell in high enough quantities is another matter but it was worth taking a punt.

When asked why he's pursuing that line of questioning,Theo gets even angrier and more emotionally distressed when he explains that he didn't have a privileged upbringing and suggests that children can play horrible bin-related tricks on each other, seemingly alluding to a possible childhood experience of his own, in which other children may have locked him in a bin for some sort of practical joke. The advertising contract might be an issue. Advertising companies are not going to want a single location, they are going to want multiple locations which offer different levels of foot traffic and varying demographics. Alas, he could offer short term advertising, or even advertise the bins on the bins for a period until a significant number are on the street. Wanting to place one bin is going to seem a bit.. amateur. He also needs to arrange for it to be emptied and there is likely to be a minimum number of bins on a contract to make it economically viable.
@felautumn9534
@felautumn9534 2 жыл бұрын
@@rje613 Why would it look ridiculous? "oh did you see that fancy bin on the high street? it has ads on it" is as far as people would go. They would stop talking about it after 5minutes and if it had advertising, it would become as normal as a bus stop, something people aren't going to think too hard about. Your reason is make believe and pretentious.
@rje613
@rje613 2 жыл бұрын
@@felautumn9534 Do you know what pretentious means, or are you just using words you've recently discovered? Your use is ironic though, I'll grant you that. It would look ridiculous, because it would look out of place. A bin covered in adverts and lights would look distinctly different to all the other bins. The majority of your comment is arguing against a point I never made. I never said that it would become a talking topic, and I certainly don't think it'll become global news simply because there's one odd looking bin on the high-street. I'm simply making the point that, from a council's perspective, things should look uniform, and I'd find it very unlikely that they'd go to the effort of signing a contract that allows some random guy to put 1 bin the middle of London, because it would look out of place. It's really not that deep, so calm down.

We have had solar powered bins for a few years in my city.(Melbourne). They compact the rubbish inside so the bins dont need to be emptied as often. They also have a wifi connection to the city to let them know when the bin is full. Apparently a normal city bin needs to be emptied 4 or 5 times per day. The new bins only need emptying once a day, and they can do it at night. With hundreds of bins in a city, thats a lot less cost, less labour to pick up the rubbish, less trucks blocking city streets and less pollution.

I wouldn't say I'm obsessed but some of my favorite YT channels are this one, Hot Ones with Sean Evans and the British panel/game show, 'Would I Lie to You'. I guess because they aren't (totally) staged and show the real emotions of people and how people react to things which I find fascinating.

It pains me to see such a smart and talented advertiser pitch an advertising trash can. Seriously. This guy has talent. I hope he figures out the right investment. Most investors invest in a majorly successful advertiser and they do the other work. This man is great at advertising. It’s a sad situation. This is an example why dragon den and shark tank differs. I watch both. A lot. I have no doubt a shark would invest in this guy.
