I feel that Jesus said, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me"? Not because he was delusional or expected a different outcome, but because so many hours of suffering had elapsed. Every minute must have felt like an eternity and he wanted the suffering to end. You did a wonderful job of depicting what he went through professor Tabor.

The corpse taken off the cross on Friday afternoon, and stashed in a donated tomb, DIDN'T 'take back life again' after 3 days & nights (72 hours) after being crucified late Friday morning. THAT time span would have the Dud Messiah shaking-off the dust no earlier than the late afternoon of the following Monday (Fri-->Sat = 1 day, Sat-->Sun = 2, & Sun--Mon = 3 days). The body was Snatched from its resting-place before dawn on Sunday -- so jesus' Rock Nap was 'just HALF of the span promised'. Just out of curiosity, what do you think about John 18:31 "31Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him according to your law.” The Jews replied, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death.” I found this interesting because elsewhere, even in John, they were going to or actually did stone people to death according to the law. As you said, it was written to maximize the culpability of the Jews but surely John would have known that they stoned people? I don't have access to or understanding of the Greek original, could verse 31 be a translation issue?

@@jesseterpstra5472 It's very sus. Either Pilate demanded they capture him and hand him over, or he was found "guilty" of sex crimes (Lev. 18:22, 20:13) based on the police and military forces attempt to seize his young companion and only got the young man's linen covering, likely a towel or a strip barely covering his modesty, and used it as evidence. Numbers 25:1-4 shows what was an appropriate penalty for sex crimes in ancient Israel even though the rabbis will tell you those sorts of transgressors were stoned to death and then hung on a tree or impaled on a stake. And Roman crucifixion fit the bill because the _sediculum_ was a shaming device as well as a seat - it penetrated the crucified. Just before his arrest and death Jesus told his disciples to sell their clothes and use the money to buy themselves swords (see Luke 22, verses 35 - 38) As they were an anti-violent group my take on this is that Jesus wanted to be sure that Rome would crucify him. It's one thing to have sedition, but quite another to have an armed sedition! The two swords that the apostles had (Peter had one) would have been enough to receive the death sentence, especially as Peter actually attacked a servant of the High Priest. Jesus would have been seen by the Romans as the leader of a violent group planning sedition.
@GazGuitarz
@GazGuitarz Жыл бұрын
@@slik00silk84 They had two swords. Peter had one but we don't know who had the other. There were 12 apostles plus the women and other followers of Christ. Probably a considerable group of people, yet they only had two swords amongst them! Just before his arrest and death Jesus told his disciples to sell their clothes and use the money to buy themselves swords (see Luke 22, verses 35 - 38). So they (the disciples) said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough" (Luke 22:35 - 38, NKJV). They were not violent revolutionaries at all as Christ's teachings do not support or promote violence! "He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword" and "Love your enemies" Jesus immediately stopped Peter after he lashed out and cut off the servant of the High Priest's ear. It is my belief that Jesus told the apostles to bear some arms at that particular time, as he knew he would be arrested by the Jews and framed for sedition. However, that in itself was not enough to ensure the death penalty. But if weapons were involved, the Romans would most surely have executed him as the popular leader of an armed rabble accused of sedition by their puppet High Priest in the Temple. Therefore the two swords ensured Christ's crucifixion by the Romans for armed sedition.

From a distance, Mary ("mother of James and Joseph"), Mary Magdalene, AND Mary ("mother of Jesus") are mentioned as 3 SEPARATE Marys, though not all the 3 are mentioned by all evangelists in the same breath. James and his siblings may hav grown up in the same house as Jesus, as a kind of blended family. The child Jesus was precocious and needed to b "socialized" as he grew up to protect his secret identity as the son of God who has come as the savior of mankind. It is obvious the whole town was led to think of this "blended" family as one, and this was mentioned in mark's gospel when Jesus visited it.

Seems Jesus would have known Psalm 22 long before his crucifixion. Could John have been deceived, and so deceived Jesus by design into fulfilling David's dramatic Revelation of the fulfillment of the Passover by Yashuas Ha Massiach. Sages understood the 6 day 6000 year plan. Even the little research I've been able to do shows 5th day as grace. Man's soul wasn't to be complete until the fullness of the gentiles. Till all is sifted out. Did he feel forsaken? How many through history have? Was it worth it? Time will tell. Time to tell! Eternal weight of glory! That's more than a lot of glory.

If the New Testament bears any credibility--and even James Tabor believes that it does by quoting it abundantly--the Gospels clearly state that Jesus did not hope for God to interfere in his crucifixion. On many occasions, Jesus explains that he must die to be raised from the dead. What's the point of relying on New Testament accounts while rejecting its main message? Resurrection from the dead is Christ's and Christianity's central message, not a miraculous last-minute intervention on the cross.

NOT WRETCHED AT ALL Jesus was announced as king of Israel in that choice between Jesus and Barabbas. Quickly said, Pilot dressed Jesus up as King, Pilot presented Jesus to the Sanhedrin and high priest among the crowd as "their King". Told the crowd to choose to crucify "their King" or Barabbas. The Saducees and High Priest chose "their king" Jesus to be crucified and instigated the Jewish crowd to choose "their King" to be crucified..... and so the Priesthood anointed Jesus as their king in order for him to be executed. And Pilat published this fact above Jesus head at a time when Jerusalem was most crowded of Jews from all over the realm. What this accomplished was to legalize according to Torah law Jesus' amended covenant and make irrelevant all burdensome Talmudic rules. I think Jesus and Pilat planned it together. Neet trick on the Sanhedrin huh.

John 18:3 "So Judas came to the grove, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons". (NIV) Where does the narrator get, "the leading priests" and a "cohort of Roman soldiers"? 16 seconds and it sounds like the narrator did his bible study in the pub. 600 men? Really? A Roman operation? Pontius Pilate didn't, "authorize the operation". He knew nothing about Jesus' arrest until the next morning! John 18:28.

The fact that just a little bit of research into Jewish rabbinic understanding of Jesus’s final quote from Psalms wasn’t done by this guy really exposes him. Also, it’s the New Testament writers that describe the savagery and desire to defile in Pilate, not outside sources.. so to say the New Testament writers were attempting to hide Pilates savagery is intentionally wrong… remember, they documented Jesus Himself mentioning it in the gospels.

Go and read Leviticus, Numeri, Deuteronomium and see how cruel Jewish law and Levite priests were. Stoning, cursing, killing. The Romans were just as cruel as the Israelites. Jesus was murdered and then the blame was placed on God for sacrificing His son where God NEVER put sacrificial laws into place. Matthew 12:7 Hosea 6:6+7 The Romans (Catholic Church) had to spin a story and make Jesus death count. Shameful that no-one has investigated and search for the truth. Jesus overthrew the sacrificial system by overturning the tables in the temple. He proved that His Father never established the sacrificial system. Jeremiah 7:22-23 Isaiah 1: 11-31

Think of how many people would be converted to Christianity if your God put in an appearance and proved beyond doubt that he existed. A trick he could perform to that end would be if he appeared on every television channel and computer screen throughout the world for one hour, regardless of whether the device was plugged into a power source or not, in fact everybody could turn their TV off and he would still be there explaining his policies and telling people all over the world how they should live their lives. Once the show was over nobody could complain that they had not been told and there would be no excuses for wavering, many people on KZbin claim to have visited Jesus and if they are to be taken at their word then there is no reason why God should not appear to everyone and put the story beyond doubt. Your God is supposed to be omnipotent and can do anything so this miracle surely could not be beyond him, if he really desires people to live by his beliefs and end up in Heaven he could do this and then there would be no reason for him to hand his creations (who he says he loves) over to Satan and the torture pit. And this brings up another question, If his subjects have been unfaithful to him and haven`t led pure and chaste lives why doesn’t he just kill them and then they could be in the same state as they were before they were born, why have them perpetually punished? Surely being burned and tortured forever is a little harsh when he professes to love them, that love seems very shallow. No doubt the purveyors of religion will find some words in the bible which preclude God from appearing to us or showing some understanding and mercy, maybe the invisible guy in the sky isn't really there and mankind has been deluding itself for Centuries. What a basic premise this so called God has been operating under, "Devote yourself to me or I'll throw you into the fire"

@@slik00silk84 so according to this account, Jesus was crucified at 9am. This would have been easily determined because the trumpet blast is heard all over Jerusalem for the first tamid. The sky went dark starting at noon and lasted until 3 pm. Two possibilities are a dust storm or a spring rainstorm. By 3pm, the trumpet for the second tamid offering will have been sounded. It is also the signal for the slaughter of The Passover lamb, but if it is overcast, they will wait until it is clear or at twilight. So read again and recalculate. That’s just the way the jews rolled back then

You MAYBE partly right in some of your THEORIES. BUT **FACT** IS: the most hated "Man" of most of the Jews today, which should have relegated Him into oblivion, and His followers persecuted, and fed to lions by the Romans which should have effectively stop the spread of Christianity, had been steadily gaining followers, and is the most well-known personality of today, almost 2,000 years after He existed; while His people, the Jews were almost wipe out by antisemitism. But thanks to the faithful God whose covenant with them is everlasting, and He fulfilled His promise to their forefathers, more than 2,000 years ago, BEFORE they were scattered, that they will be returned to their homeland, and they did in1948. Proving that Jesus is not an ordinary man, for He is THE JEW, the offspring of Isaac, and Jacob/Israel declared by God, **through whom ALL NATIONS on earth will be blessed**, GENESIS 26:4, 28:14 And true to his character the **very crafty** one who deceived and convinced Adam and Eve to not heed God, had also made his move, for God also declared that ""the offspring" will NOT come from Ishmael, GENESIS 17:18-21, 21-12 and lo, when it was apparent that God's promise had came to pass, for by the far and wide reach of the Roman empire (who converted to Christianity **AFTER** more than 200 years of persecuting the Christians), people from many nations were beginning to hear the gospel and were reconciled to God through THE JEW, Jesus Christ, Islam of Allah came, teaching that it's now by following Muhammad, an Ismaelite??? that people will be blessed, overshadowing THE JEW, and promoting instead an Ismaelite for people to follow.

2000 years ago in Northern Africa and the Middle East crucifixion was a common method of execution and to say that it was unusual would be wrong, read accounts by the historian Gustave Flaubert. When wars were concluded the prisoners from the vanquished were crucified by the hundreds, major roadways were lined for miles with crosses. This was an effective way way of demonstrating that crimes against the State would not be tolerated and if the stories about Jesus bear any credence he was just one of many crucified for his crimes, his crime was probably that of leading an insurrection against the State. Like many modern day Gurus he gained a following and as that following grew it became political, the rulers of the time sensing a threat to the establishment decided to make an example of him just as they do to the leaders of uprisings today. there was nothing particularly outstanding about his case but as time goes by and legends are born the stories about him become more and more unrealistic, E.G. walking on water, raising the dead etc. etc. but people are so desperate to find some meaning in their lives that they will believe any story as long as it is repeated over and over, it's time to forget the stories and lies of the past and concentrate on enjoying your life here at this time of history. THE WHOLE BIBLE IS A LOAD OF NONSENSE.
