The way it's written, John speaks as if he didn't know Jesus until he came to him for baptism. However, John was related to Jesus through Mary; I understood as cousins, only 6 months apart.

Great video, very illuminating thank you Prof. Tabor. - quick note: 11:10 “Gospels written between 70 and 100AD” - no such clear and indubitable claims can be made - Mark can have been written before Luke which in turn was written before Acts (same author Luke-Acts) - Peter and Paul are held to have been martyred around 68 AD under Neronian persecution (if at all). James the Just is supposed to have been martyred latest by 69 AD and earliest 62/63 AD under Priest Ananus (sometime after Festus just before Albinus per Josephus in Antiquities 93 AD, and sometime before a Passover according to Eusebius in Ecclesiastical History) - Acts says nothing of the death of either Peter, Paul, or James (the Just, brother of the Lord), nor of the Fire of Rome in 64 AD, nor of the Roman-Jewish war that began in 66AD. - As stated earlier, scholars, academics, and the majority of theologians alike are almost in unanimous agreement Luke was before Acts (due to Theophilus). And per Marcan Priority, Mark was before Luke - it makes sense therefore, to place Mark around 55 AD (generously), that is between Paul's 2nd and 3rd Missionary Journeys i.e. 50-57 AD (between 1 Thessalonians and 1 Corinthians), or perhaps even earlier around 46-50 AD between the 1st and 2nd Pauline missionary journeys, (coinciding roughly around after John Mark leaves Paul and Barnabas at Pamphilia/Pergia Acts 13:13 right after Peter escapes Herod’s imprisonment and seeks refuge with his mother and Rhonda etc. Acts 12:12), or at the latest during Paul’s first (or even only) Roman imprisonment between 61-63 AD (Acts 28). Acts ends with Paul triumphantly and boldly preaching the Gospel in Rome for 2 years in a rented house without let or hindrance. And this is where the matter should logically end. - Both Eusebius and later, Jerome say Paul was sent off/“dismissed” by Nero, which should logically have been before the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD. Little is know of what happens to Paul thenceforth until any “2nd Imprisonment” and the intevening 2-3 years. There is some debate regarding Pauline authorship of 1and 2 Timothy, and Titus (Pastoral Epistles) and how to date and locate them, whether in Ephesus/Caesaria or Rome, since only 2 Timothy mentions anything about Paul’s imprisonment (likely in Rome around 67/68 AD due to Onesiphorus, “chained like a criminal”, and "Luke alone (being) with me” 4:11 etc., though all this is speculative.). - Even less is known regarding Paul’s martyrdom aside from Clement, Polycarp, and Ignatius’s letters and Patristic tradition like Ireneus's “Against Heresies", and still less about any “beheading” (though logically possible given Paul’s Roman citizenship); the earliest source of that form of execution is the pseudoepigraphical “Acts of Paul” (150 AD) which Tertullian (and later Eusebius) faithfully parrots- [Note - Chronology and timeline has been edited: sometimes when we make well-intentioned errors in our haste, the Spirit sits on our chests at night during our ponderings and beats sense into our heads until we get minutiae as right as possible]. - Paul’s theology and Christology appears to undergo some change between Thessalonians/Galatians (late 40/early 50s AD, written in Antioch/Corinth) to Corinthians/Romans (56-58 AD, written in Ephesus/Corinth), wrt the 2nd Coming (1 Thes 4:16 “Lord himself will come down from heaven” etc.) and the return of Jesus (like the “thief at night” etc. 1 Thes 5:2). - the destruction of the Temple on Aug 30, 70CE and somehow adducing from that date and from Mark 13:1-2 that Mark would have had to have known of it and written his Gospel only AFTER 70AD, is all an impudent and insolent American “Biblical Academic Scholarship” red herring (not unlike the sort Jesus and his disciples had for breakfast on the banks of the Sea of Galilee in John 21... or was it?). - I am being conservative. Several respected scholars like A T Robinson and John Wenham (yes, who WERE Theologians - so what?) deduce from the Clement 1 Epistle to Corinthians that mentions the Temple still standing (Chap 41) and from the Didache (90s AD), and from Papias etc. that Mark can be dated even earlier to late 40s AD. - Ehrman’s dating in “Jesus Interrupted” is all rubbish. Tabor should CEASE PARROTING EHRMAN.

As Christians my mother raised me as Jesus was our companion in day life, and I've always listened John the Baptiser was the reference for Jesus, like a Brother. I've never thought one was superior, and I don't take care who is the messiah or the teacher. The Message was More Important. But I love how you talk about the apocalyptic care they had to save humanity. Today we are in the same position. We have to talk the same message, because we have scientific elements saying we are in the last days. Do how to transmit, how to give faith in Humanity, how to accept what s coming, what is our mission, I can really hear Jesus and John discussing from their young age on how to save the spirit of humanity if flood time comes again, as if Us dies, what will survive in Us. They were certainly more numerous, James, Mary, always taking care of her Son, others we knew or we can imagine. Truth is known by the trace their soul had let under their feet. James in you understanding what is meant by the People of the Way and how does that way apply to me personally. It is interesting the Disciple of Jesus never called them self Christians and neither did Paul in any of His Writings did he use the title word Christian. The term is only found 3 times in Bible and each time the Disciple were Called Christians by outsiders. The Prophets with out doth spoke of two Messiah's or Anointed ones who were to come and set the People Free from bondage. It is like two Kings both Anointed even as was King Saul and King David but only David was a Man after GOD's own Heart. Both John and Jesus were Anointed in the same way at birth = the two ways even as Saul and David but only David was Three times Greater in His Devotion. Could the Three Crosses you spoke of in John's Tomb tell us something as to this Truth. The Two Way's of Baptism = Outer Physical Water of Old Covenant and Inner Spiritual Spirit Water of the New Covenant the true River of Living Water. The Bible is full of the 7 Hermetic Principles of Thoth of Egypt later to become Hermes Trismegistus of the Greeks who's name means Hermes the Thrice Great one who was the God of the BODY, SOUL and SPIRIT OF THE UNIVERSAL COSMOS. A view Paul had through out His Writings that Contain the 7 Hermetic Principles which to me are the Mysteries Hidden from Mankind from the Foundation of the world but was Revealed by Paul to the entire World and Saint John the Divine as Called in the Revelation. Most Scholars Never speak of the opening words of the Revelation where it Reads The Revelation of Saint John the Divine and then goes on to Read and the Revelation of Jesus Christ = the Anointed One. Could the Revelation be a comparison between John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ; the Old Covenant and the New Covenant and which one is Greater. John telling us He is a Lesser Messiah and Jesus is the Greater Messiah. John knew from the Beginning Jesus was Greater and was Able to bring perfect Salvation of Body, Soul and Spirit the Tri Unity Being of Eternal Life Giver of the Cosmos. I understood that John was the son of Elizabeth, Jesus's cousin, and six months older than Jesus. If jess was born in 4 or 6 BCE this would be the approximate time of John's birth. John taught Jesus. After John was beheaded, Jesus carried on without him. After Jesus was crucified, his disciples carried on. It was Paul, however, that significantly advanced the cause, spread the word, and contributed a large portion of what became the New Testament.

Paul was no.1, not for how closely he adhered to the message of Jesus, but for how he created a religion based on his version of Jesus.
