You got it. It’s about suicide. Particularly celebrity (neon) suicide. How we raise up artist after they kill themselves. But don’t appreciate while they are here. And he’s saying forget all that. Stop glorifying suicide and celebrate people who fought through their struggles and are still here.

One of their hardest hitting songs. You did it proud Toci. ✌🏻

I love the symbolism of neon light in the tøp universe and for me it totally makes sense. A fire emits light and warmth, which you need to survive. A neon light however may draw you in with its light but it's not giving off any heat, therefore luring you in by giving you a false sense of salvation which will then achieve the opposite. That's why you see the banditos with torches and the bishops with neon gravestones. At least that's my theory.

i love that Tyler said that either this had to be on the album or there would be no album. notice also he never mentions the word suicide, he just heavily implies it. hes so clever in his writing whilst also conveying an incredible message.

Every album has a song where Tyler asks for everyone to Stay Alive and Push On Through and not unalive themselves. This is that song from Trench

Such a powerful song. Tyler was told that they needed cut the song or their career would be ruined and he refused to do it. Glad he didn't listen! This and Redecorate off of SAI really hit you hard in the feels. Great reaction as always! ♥

Yeah this song is about celebrity suicide and how instead of praising people who kill themselves before their time, give roses to those who pave the way for you. Fun fact: They had to fight with the label to keep this song on Trench. Also, if I remember right the instrumental samples Moonlight Sonata? (It is a sample, but I forgot which exact song)
@scottishemmaa24572 күн бұрын
Yeah, you’re right - it’s Beethoven’s piano sonata 14 in c-sharp major (I think! I might be mis-remembering though lol! I’ve not played in a few years!) Edit - I just checked, it’s C sharp minor lol!

This song cuts like a machete, and it absolutely gives me goosebumps every single time! Their label (I think?), or some execs, wanted Tyler to cut this song from the album altogether, because they thought it would end TOP's whole career. I'm really glad they kept it, anyway. A note: In the video for Nico and the Niners, the Bishops in the Red Robes are building a neon gravestone, which is a reference to this song. The neon gravestones play a pretty big role in the lore, in general, so i'd definitely watch out for them as you go through the rest of the playlist!

Just a note: They say "How could he go if he's got everything? I'll mourn for a kid, but won't cry for a king"

I think that it's not just about society glorifying creativity (for example) after the artist's death (for instance), but also about the glorification of celebrity suicide, whose creativity and figure are then elevated to a "cult". I hope I explained it well. and it also seems (one person already wrote about this in the comments) that the neon gravestones are those neon "lamps" that Nico and the bishops worship in Dema‘s temple, while the banditos carry real torches with them. that is, this means the opposition of living, warming, life-affirming fire (that help you in the fight against Nico, that is, with your oppressive thoughts) and neon lamps (literally gravestones) that emit artificial, soulless light. and since they are connected with Nico and Dema, the lines about them calling for Tyler's bones mean losing to Blurryface and probably committing suicide. and if he loses to this call, then he asks a specific person or loved ones in general to move on.
@DD-ny6dt2 күн бұрын
yeah and also, this is an obvious thought, but if Blurryface is pushing Tyler (and people in general) to commit suicide, then it is clear that these neon "lamps" are literally graves.
@DD-ny6dt2 күн бұрын
and he also says that the desire to commit suicide is not only about the desire to "hype", but also "a form of aggression", "a form of succession", "a form of a weapon Thinking "I'll teach them"" (that is, I will die and then you will all understand what you have done, so I will take revenge on you), but he does not treat such a decision with condemnation, because he understands that the reasons for this decision caused the person unbearable suffering (after all, deciding to commit suicide is not so easy, even if everything is very bad), but he simply calls for treating this not as glorification, but as a problem. if I understood the meaning of the song correctly.

this aint necessarily a lore video but the song is heavily part of the lore, this is the religion that Dema is preaching, offing yourself and be put in a neon gravestone and be called a "glorious gone."

It’s really hard to understand the song completely if you don’t know lore but this video is great example - even if you don’t familiar with inside of twenty one pilots music you will get what they want to say, at least main idea of it
