With the Fulltone, I used to use it after the distortion, depending if its more of a sustain drive like a Wampler ego, or if it’s distortion like a silver arrow. I have been using it before any distortion lately. Using a noise gate at the end of the chain -before it goes into stereo fx that split into marshals half-stacks with 2 amps operating in stereo mode. I find that the stereoBoss DC-2w waza chorus-like box is pretty kewl to send to 2 different heads. Set it - forget and leave it on. There’s my two cents. By the way I’ve had here Marshall’s forever and been collecting pedals since the 70s (read I’m old) 😁

What a great episode! Thank you Mick! You just showed me exactly what I was looking for! This year (2019) I disovered Robin Trower and become a big fan of his music, playing, sound and his baritone vocal as well (since around 2005 he started to sing himself on his records). I was so interested in his sound how it is similar and different form Jimi Hendrix. And you just showed it prefectly to me!!! I also discovering tremolo, vibrato, leslie, phaser type of effects, being influenced by Robin Trower, Charlie Hunter, Mickael Landau, Albert King and now I understand Univibe type effect much better. TPS is really great show from the very beginning! Awesome playing, great knowledge, great production! \m/

I havent gotten in trower but see his name all over the place especially since ordering this pedal, any suggestion for an album that defines his best work? Thx
@AlexanderPetrov4 жыл бұрын
@@luisangelEXALTA Thank you for the question. I love Robin Trower too much to choose the best work, but I'll try. Definitely you have to check out 1974 "Bridge Of Sighs" album with the most famous songs of Robin. Of the top of my head, I love 1990 "In The Line Of Fire" album. If you like these albums, you can start discovering everything else of his music. I always love vocalists of Robin Trower, and his own vocal too. Most of Robin music is in the minor and harmonically darker then most of the music. That's why not everybody might get it, I suppose. Also his playing is not always perfectly accurate, and that's not for everybody too. But I like it, especially.

@@AlexanderPetrov thank you for responding so quickly, I appreciate it, I will check out his 1974 album for sure, sounds like a good time, much of my favorite music is around that era (led Zeppelin. Cream, Hendrix (1970), Bob Marley,

Great playing and extremely useful info as usual. A humble request for a future show: The difference between creating compression through gain stages vs compressor pedals. Maybe not interesting enough but sometimes I struggle to balance pedal compression vs compression created by OD, stacking OD, and compression in the pre/power amp due to volume differences due to clean boosts and guitar volume / pups.
@ThatPedalShow9 жыл бұрын
When I read your name I immediately heard the violin through the distortion. :0) it's a super interesting topic for sure. You've probably found that you get a great compression setting at home then go out and play louder and it all changes. It's hard to demonstrate, but it really underlines that dynamics and response are every bit as important as 'tone' (gain structure and EQ). The 'magic' is when you can get on top of it and use it to your advantage, rather than be frustrated by it. And we've all been (and continue to be) frustrated by it at times. If we can think of a way to offer some useful advice via the show, we will. Being completely reductive, the harder your amp is working and the louder you play, the less pedal gain and compression you 'need'. That's a generalisation, but it kind of works. Thanks for watching!
@hotrats10409 жыл бұрын
+That Pedal Show Thanks a lot! And you're correct, I don't master this on different volumes but thanks to watching mosts of your episodes several time I'm starting to ask better questions :-) The episodes on different wattage of amps was together with the ones on gain stages were a couple of real eye openers from that perspective. It explained something which I didn't understand when my 100w head broke down during a gig and I borrowed a great 20w tweed combo that was "just as loud"... but made my guitars & most pedals sound and function completely different. I've learned more from your videos the last 3-4 months than I've ever known before. Truly great stuff - you're amazing.

About 4 years ago, I inherited a Boss PN-2 Temolo pedal that give me itch that it couldn't scratch! Although it's a great pedal in it's own right, I had to have a Leslie simulator. So I bought a "Dunlop Rotovibe" which is a great pedal, or was until I plugged 1 Spot wall wart into it and blew out the resistor. I've since found out that this is a common problem and it can be fixed I just haven't got around to it as it was a bit annoying. But I went through some of my older Rack unit's and found that the Rotory setting on the "Alesis Nanoverb" will work with a Johnson J3 pedal that I had just lying around waiting to be used, but not much versatility such as fast to slow, ramping or slow!! Just on and off. Next up was a $30 Pawn Shop Special, the "DOD 3 Dimension" rack, which will go Fast and Slow with moderate ramping with the Alesis wall wart, and the Johnson J pedal. The problem here is the annoying grounding hum which kind sounds better if you isolate the unit away from other rack units! So next Craigslist provided me with a "VOCE Spin" Once I got the manual, It turned out to be a great half rack stereo unit with a dedicated guitar input. It has a standard wall wart and works off the Johnson J3 pedal controlling fast/slow/brake internal ramping. The not so obvious problem with the VOCE Spin is the 2 outputs. Out 1 is Mono!! Out 2 is a stereo ring tip thing that will hum if you plug in a mono jack think it is only out 2, which is why I got it for $75. The guy was frustrated, as was I until I bought the Boss and then found the VOCE manual online. It has overdrive control, instrument control Output control and a MIDI selector and control for 15 different Leslie presets. I'm using it with my Keyboards At this point(about 6 months ago) I went to the local music store and got a close out price on a Boss RT-20 That does it all!! Ramping up/down control, variable fast, variable slow, over drive effect level, instrument level and 4 selectable modes a very nice pedal.

Stumbled upon this old vid while searching for stuff on harmonic tremolo; as in affordable ways to get my hands on some. Best I can muster right now is MarkBass Compressore > Harley Benton British > Zoom CDR-70 > feeding Bassbreaker 15 and Blackstar HT-1 for some Stereo. That SG sounds creamy smooth. Love it. Do you still have it? I don't recall seeing it for quite some time. I bought an SG a month back but the fret-ends were pants. She's been with local luthier "Ed's In The Shed" ever since I got Thomann to agree to get her fixed instead of sending her back. Friday will be NGD - Part Deux . Yay !! So light.! I was shocked at the weight. Such good responses ... but the fret-ends had a beard ...

The issue w JImi was one of buffers/impedance, the old univibe had a dreadful impedance buffer which could not be used in front of old fuzz. Trower's use, recommended by Fuller at front of chain, works very well but also Robin's OD's are not that cranked. Jimi's Marshall was not overdriven but was also not that clean. Basically, all pedals work on the "rule of dominance", what comes after will be the more dominant effect. So placement of a phaser or vibe after gain increases the sweep boldness and clarity while in front reduces the sweep pulse but may sound more organic and musical to the user. Personally I like the vibe before and my phaser after overdrive which sounds more like Pagey's phaser use. If you can adjust the vibe in front so that a sustained note almost warbles into feedback then you are close to the Trower sound. All in all the Vibe is an amazing unique effect and Josh's take on the photocell circuit is about as good as it gets.
