I picked up a friend's boat from another friend (I know). Anyway, it had my motor on it so we are just all sharing it. When I came to pick it up, it had rained with the plug in. It was full of water. I pulled the plug, and hooked it up. I let it drain for a few minutes, and then started to drive SLOW. I figured that it would drain enough by the time I got on the actual road. I was wrong. Even though most of the water had drained, there was still enough in it to dump the boat off of the trailer when I took a sharp turn. Thankfully, a big strong kid was behind me when it happened. He helped me dump what was left, and put the boat back on the trailer in minutes. It was heavy traffic, so that was good. It didn't hurt the boat at all. Also good, considering it wasn't mine.

You know, the boating industry could have collectively come together to make transom plug holes slightly smaller than hull and live well holes so you couldn't make the mistake, or for a few cents could have added a paint ring around each hole with a different color and dyed plugs to match. But they haven't in the decades and decades that people have been putting the plugs in the wrong holes. Good for them. They know a sunken boat is another sale, and there comes a point in your life (if you haven't reached it already) where you stop caring for stupid people with money because you know they got it off the sweat of someone else who is smarter and paid less.

On a small boat that can go 20mph+ you can drain the water without a bilge pump by simply accelerating up to plane speed and the water will drain, when it's empty, you either plug it, or drop some one off, to put the trailer in, while you speed around until you can load the boat on the trailer.
