Its alright, some people just won't get Mariah's musicality and vision! and be able to appreciate it.. even some of her fans... Basically she's a white lady saying "I simply don't understand what these black people are saying at all HAHAHA!". Very Karen vibe. She seems to specifically have an issue with Khalid and Kirk (black males) in this video, and literally ignores anything Khalid does vocally other then to critique his diction. She can't seem to accept that a Christmas song can be R&B, and takes issue with the Gospel section... But I have noticed in watching other videos of her's that it kind of seems like she just can't understand certain things about black people singing... I have sensed subtle racism in her critiques before.
@kev1212 жыл бұрын
Some people want to lock Mariah in her pop diva box and are almost immediately turned off by anything she does that is an overt reflection of her African-American heritage, such as r&b, gospel, or hip hop collaborations. This song is literally the Christmas cousin of “My All”, which is one of Mariah’s like 19 number ones. But make it a duet with an obviously Black male partner, coupled with a gospel breakdown, and some people almost immediately tap out or lose interest quickly. Oh and, I think the thing Honest Vocal Coach wasn’t sure about was after the whistle note, Mariah did a vocal run down into her lower register. I love when she goes into the basement (as I call it), but some people only want to hear her belting out high notes and whistles.

I think that Georgina missed the fact that Mariah didn't intend for this one to be a pop song, but she seemed to critique it based on a pop Christmas song formula she has in her head. I like how you were still respectful to Regina while offering critique. I usually like what she has to say, but this video of hers took me aback. I think where Regina misses the point (I'm not talking about her specific reaction to this song but as a whole) is her concept of honesty, and by that, I mean that she sometimes mistakes honesty with having no filter. She needs to understand that it's ok if a specific musical genre is not what she prefers to listen to, rather than bashing the genre-whether it's intentional or unintentional- she can just not listen to it, or focus on what she likes about it and objectively criticize what she doesn't like (her critique was rather subjective in this instance, sadly). To give a completely different example, I personally usually don't like EDM music, except for a couple songs here or there, which is not a reflection of the artistry of EDM musicians, but just my personal taste.

I don't think she's that comfortable with genres/topics outside her comfort zone and tends to sound dismissive of anything that isn't as pure in technique etc. As long it is considered and isn't damaging it shouldn't matter, it's pop music! The song reminds me of many RnB/Soul Xmas songs from back in the day mixed with contemporary Gospel. We must remember opinions are limited by our level of knowledge and lived/shared experience. :)

Before watching this video, just like the female coach, I also thought that it sounded like a Spanish song. I am Latin and lived in Spain for many years.

I really like his analysis and it’s more on behind the scenes on studio. Mixing, panning and i will give credits to her sound/mixing engineer. Well, it’s all in the hands to the sound engineer to make the singer sounds more amazing

You can't help yourself can you? Them engineers but work really hard on Celines tracks.. literally every one of your comments about Mariah is negative or to discredit her, don't talk got Celine videos to watch?

The difference between you and Regina, is you critique music as a whole. She just critiques vocal and even on that end, you know way more than she does about vocal muscles. She knows sounds and vowels… she basic.

I am a huge Mariah fan and I've been following Georgina for years now. She's a huge Mariah fan too but people need to understand that opinions can diverge. Personally I LOVE the song but I have to agree with Georgina with the diction thing. Sorry, but I didn't get the guys lyrics as well. Either way, Georgina is one of the kindest youtubers I follow. No need to throw shade peeps, chill out ✌

I think that people were more upset because they felt the other artists were snubbed. I don't think that was her intention though and like I said in the video, we are all going to make mistakes.

@@LesageSinging agreed! I really like your channel too, Im just trying not to create "rivalties", if that makes sense. Internet can become nasty really fast 😅 I agreed with the diction too because english is not my native language, Im portuguese and although Im fluent in english, I struggled too. Anyway, I really enjoy your channel and work!

I think what irritates those of us that normally listen to this type of music is her micro-agressions toward Black music and also i think people should listen to consider that maybe its a stylized choice. Ive heard people say the same of Jasmine Sullivan. Like Mariah has been in this business for 30 years, im pretty sure she knows how to enunciate words clearer if she wants to. Same for many professional singers. Sometimes it takes multiple listens or reading the lyrics to pick up on everything. It is what it is.
@danielmagalhaes1892 жыл бұрын
@@mickey10jb80 what do you mean with black music? People keep creating walls I dont know why.. music is music, period. Sorry but thats what I think, Im not trying to be rude

I agree with the diction part tho. He could have enunciated a bit more, but also needed to open the vowel sounds up
@LesageSinging2 жыл бұрын
I'm beginning to think that it may have to do with what people are listening on. My headphones are really high quality and I don't miss any of the words. If I listen to it on my phone though, it's very hard to hear.

Oooooh!! Does this mean you're gonna give us your amazing, in-depth analysis of some of Mariah's Christmas performances? I'm getting giddy just thinking about it. 2010 ABC Christmas Special. She performs with her mother during O Come All Ye Faithful. Mother sings opera. Mariah is well rested and pregnant with twins. Whistles and belts and gorgeous tone and even thyroid tilts and lightning fast transitions. Intrigued? 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

I appreciate this video and the fact that you know who Le'andria Johnson is. Phenomenal singer. I was disappointed with the Honest Vocal coach's analysis because it highlighted how she really does not know the genre of gospel.

What happened? I have been on vacation and didn’t see The Honest Vocal Coaches reaction. I usually catch all of her Mariah reactions. I went to her page, but the video has been taken down? So I’m guessing she must’ve gotten a lot of backlash?

She was slightly dismissive of one of the artists featured in the video. I don't wish her any ill will and I'm sure she will ultimately be fine.

Ignorance does not equal guilt. No-one needs to apologise for anything they did not do. Or for possible future offences. This proves the problem is not with the individual but with the masses.

Khalid's "indie voice" isn't my thing but he's not hard to understand and I enjoy him in collaborations. I only found your channel in the past week or so and have binged your vids. I've been struct by your respect of black musical artistry. Some other erm non-melanated vocal coaches will hear a run and say "ugh too showy" or "pretty." I've appreciated how you breakdown why it's impactful or difficult. I've gotten a new appreciation for the songs I've grown up with. This song felt in line with "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway and "Let It Snow" by Boyz II Men, the R&B Christmas slow jam. 💁🏾♂ (Aside, check out Jill Scott's He Loves Me - Live and Rare, you won't regret it)
