When you listen to her discography, you'll see how she just LOVES doing overdubs on her songs, and generally being playful with harmonizations and melodies I think a reason for this is that she started as a background and demo singer, so it became in her nature to experiment with her voice since it gave her a deeper understanding of how the voice can paint up pictures in a song There are clips here on KZbin where she's in a studio directing the sound engineer on what to do while she does overdubs/harmonizations. It's cool if you can check em out!

Mariah's voice is really captivating and emotive from the very first note of the song, I never feel bored or impatient anticipating the chorus or climax. Of course part of it is her unique timbre, but it's great to hear someone break down the stylings and production, rather than belts and whistles.

Also Mariah has polyphonic vocals. When you hear the falsetto and the breathy tone at the same time it’s not a studio technique, it’s all Mariah in one take not stacking/layering.

finally someone who UNDERSTANDS her voice. it's one thing to just say "oh yea shes great', but its another thing to pick up on so much of the nuance and detail that she puts in. most people either miss, or overlook just how much shes actually doing. i will always say that Mariah is, without doubt, the MOST artistic vocalist thats ever lived and been able to record. theres been tons of amazing vocalists, but she quite honestly does something so.....different. i don't know what it is, but her voice and vocal ability, when you REALLY look at it, is so far removed from quite literally anything ive ever heard. her voice should be studied because theres something going on there that is just magical and i honestly believe that her voice is just fundamentally different from most others.

You should react to "bliss" and "angel prelude" if you want to get a deeper look into her abilities in whistle. Thise songs are basically all whistle. She has just as much control in whistle as she does in every other register. She even can speak/sing entire words and phrases in whistle.

she makes these decisions of adding background vocals She started her career as a back up singer which is why she loves adding background vocals as an homage to her starting up and she knows well how to be a back up singer for herself also its the usual mistake of accusations to Mariah doing lipsyncs.. people who arent familiar with her artistry will mistake HER background vocals as her lip-syncing when performing in a live set up

The best part of Mariah's songs, besides the whistle notes, is her background vocals. They have so many parts and layers, and they all overlap harmoniously. Mariah loves and enjoys laying background vocals more than anything else! Doing those vocals live is near impossible, but she still has a way to recreate them and still sound just the same as in the studio! Tray Lorenz and Mary Ann Tatum are about the only two people, who really understand Mariah's background vocals as they've been working with MC ever since day one. Their voices blend in so perfectly that, sometimes, it's hard to tell who's doing what part.... There's such a connection between Mariah and her backup singers, that whenever they're performing live and are about to sing their climax parts, she looks back at them to connect even more! However, and for some reason, her most recent albums have less of Tray and Mary Ann's vocals and more of Mariah's voice in them....has anyone else noticed?

Aside from being known of her whistle register, she is also known of her insanely fucking low notes! Please do more! I would love to hear if its "Without You" live either in the Madison Square Garden or in the Tokyo Dome!

Love this song but this is not the vocal highlight of the album The Emancipation Of Mimi, that falls to 3 other songs: We belong together, Mine Again and Fly like bird (specially the Grammy's 2006 performance and 2008 on Idol gives back). It was treated as pop music because it was Mariah Carey who lifted sounds like Hip hop, RnB and Rap yo the top of the charts, she pioneered and basically created because she had the view since before she had a contract to find a way for a female vocalist to share musical experiences with urban sounds and the Fantasy Remix ft. ODB from the Wu Tan Clan was born, became the first song by a female to debut at #1 and paved the road to the sound we have heard in the past 23 years or so. That's why she is highly regarded in that Urban sounds community, she redefined the limits of Pop without compromising her vocal skills to comply to a simpler sound and more like mixing both things and basically develop the sound that Destiny's child, Fergie, Beyonce, Shakira even, Jennifer Lopez, Whitney Houston herself, Lauryn Hill, Mary J Blige, Christina Aguilera, TLC, Aaliyah, Isis, Usher, Twista, Rihanna, Jermaine Dupree, Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson etc... She is a master overlaying her own voice, sometimes she has 2 or 3 whistles layered on top of each other in 2 different octaves or a belt with a whistle in the back like in her cover of "I wanna know what live is" she really is a great producer and we can see it because despite of changing labels, writing partners etc she keeps her musical style is more than just a signature, you can tell is her work
@milanpop163 жыл бұрын
i’d say “stay the night” is more of a vocal highlight than we belong together tbh

To think that this song wasn't even gonna make the album if their original plan was to be considered. Yes, even her outtakes are that good because of the amount of meticulous input she has in her material. A self-confessed studio rat and a hella great one at that.
