My Mum worked in Toys R Us during this time and she figured out she could buy like 6 of them and try to sell them on before Christmas. The issues was my Mum didn’t have much drive to actually sell them so a lot of my childhood memories involve my house being full with an army of tickle me Elmos… As they were all simultaneously running out of batteries they would just randomly go off from the corners of rooms or under beds. It was like living in a home haunted by Elmos.

I have a friend who worked at Toys Я Us the year of Elmo. One time, she was carrying a new unmarked box of Elmos out to the floor, it slipped out of her grip and fell, and on impact all of them started giggling. She just fucking RAN.

I remember when tickle me Elmo came out. It was absolutely wild. People would storm stores, get in fights, and sprint through stores to buy them. I remember people standing in front of things like grocery stores selling them out of the backs of cars. Greed is a crazy thing.

If you didn't ask for it they probably didn't go to too much effort. I got one for my niece during the craze because I just happened to be present when the store restocked. I had no idea if she even wanted one, but I knew they were in high demand so I seized the opportunity. There were probably a lot of kids who got tickle-me-Elmos they didn't want, just because parents and relatives heard they were 'the' hottest toy.

Action Man vs Max Steel was one of the main Death Battle arguments me and my cousins would have growing up. The funniest part was that my little sister used to steal them and made them fight over her Barbies because she didn't like Ken. So, basically, my little sister's Barbie would have a harem of Action Man and Max Steel while Ken was out there getting cocked XD.

Everyone complains about this sponsorship just like Adam is but who cares. Its like selling stars in space, it's not really real but it's fun still, and you only buy it if you can afford it it's not a essential item. If someone likes it and it brings them satisfaction. I know people will still complain and say oh it doesn't matter it's still not real, misleading, ect But what can you say to them they won't see any funny. And Karl's reason of the Smallwood's small woods cracks me up so I fully support that

I had forgotten about Rosie doing a bit on the Elmo the creators sent her. The Rosie O'Donnell show was HUGE back in the 90s. It was a late night style talk show, but would be on at 10 or 11 in the morning. She also tailored the humor to people that would be watching that early, adults with young kids, very family orientated. It was a lot of fun. I remember watching it when I was on summer vacation. But I can see how the demand would kick up after she promoted it. And the only time I went crazy for something was a Playstation 2. I got up at 3am, when to a store and was 13th in line for one. The store had 15. I had fun playing SSX all weekend, after I took a nap, lol.

my favorite story similar to the sanitizer one, in my city we are close to the US great lakes, a few years ago due to an algae bloom our water became 100% unusable for 3-5 days couldnt shower with it couldn't drink it nothing. so bottled water demands skyrocketed, a bunch of scalpers and mom and pop carryout started jacking up the prices on their stock or flar out buying big box water and selling it at an upcharge, upwards of like $50+ USD for a 12 pack of water. the local government fined everyone they could find to HELL for this. let it be known scalping will meet you with scorn in one way or another

I remember coming across tickle me Elmo in my local Woolworths ( a much missed high street shop) and trying it. I have it a tickle, nothing happened. I tickled it a bit harder, nothing happened again. I punched it and then it laughed. Another favourite memory from Woolworths toy section was setting of a whole shelf load of bounce me Tigger's. Me and a friend lent on a whole shelf load of these and went round the corner to the sound of "I'm going to bounce" followed by the shelf vibrating to the bouncing toys. Now that I work in retail I wish to apologize to all the staff of the store, but it was funny.

A lot of Jingle all the ways shennanigans were based on the Cabbage Patch Kids incident of the early 80s as that was similarly brutal as was the 1977 run of Star Wars figures, supply couldn't meet demand so parents went postal. Might be an idea for a fact fiend for instances where scaplers got screwed, it's always nice to see when they pull it for the supply to then suddenly open up rendering their attempts pointless.

They should make a Taz toy that's soft enough to hug... But has some sort of weighted spinner in the center that weighs more than the rest of the toy... And maybe the center core is like a capsule and the bottom of the toy is a base that lets the toy sit up and spin around.... With some sort of trigger mechanism like the tickle me Elmo...

My wife and I were walking through Walmart with a cart in the toy section the year Tickle Me Elmo came out. Like, THE year. We had absolutely no plan on it. There weren't any available. They just were not there. An employee comes up to us and asks us if we have kids. The kid was less than 6 months old and home with Grandma. I said yeah and scoffingly brought up Tickle Me Elmo. It was a total joke. This woman put a Tickle Me Elmo in our cart and said "Merry Christmas. Hide it." I just realized I've never told that story before!

What gets me is, and I can remember this time cause Inwas a teen, after people went though this insanity to get Tickle Me Elmo some new stations after Cristmas reports to show the fruits of peope's mad scamble to secure the hot new toy,and found the kids, the ones for whom people fought tooth and nail or get this doll for.. didn't even want it. Most kids who got a Tickle Me Elmo didn't want one and quicky grew borde of the toy if they had gotten one. Parents didn't ask their kids if they wanted the toy, they trusted that a celebrity was correct in her assumption every kid loved Elmo as much as she did. Even the kids obessed wit Elmo wanted the big plush Elmo doll not the creepy laughing doll.

I had all 5 of the zoids that could be combined together for the ultimate mega zoid. That thing was awesome. The only other things I can think that had equal excitement was my Megatron dragon from transformers and bionic figurines that I would combine into my own.

I've heard this one for years... not sure of the origin of it: A guy got a job at a factory that made the Tickle Me Elmo toys. His first day, the line supervisor went to the plant manager and said, "We've got to do something. This guy is supposed to be doing QA on the toys, but he's taking twenty minutes for each doll." So the manager and the supervisor when to check on the guy. He had a needle, thread, a big box of marbles, and a bunch of squares of the Elmo fur fabric. They watched him pick up one of the dolls, a couple of the marbles, a patch of fur, and start sewing. After a few minutes, the manager started laughing. He went over to the guy and said, "I think you might have misheard me. I said to give each Elmo two TEST TICKLES."
