On the Dvd for Men in Black there is a trailer for Ghostbusters. The opening line is 'Before there were Men in Black, there were Ghostbusters' or something to that effect. Both franchises being owned by Sony, both being set in New York and both having a paranormal/comedy element to them gives a lot of potential for crossover.

poll makes sense because you got to think of the time difference. MIB is a lot of kids childhood now as much as ghostbusters. Also how similarly they are. Both adult movies that got made into kids cartoon that had iconic theme song.

Say what you want about EGB. I love it, man. It's a great concept. Never mind that it kindda follows Aykroyd's original idea of a new younger team picking up the torch and running with it. The whole idea of the majority of the entities they encounter are of the demonic variety just makes sense. That leads to them having to rework all the tech so it coincides with the energies those "demonic" types are made up of. And how the release of Akeria (a demi-god level entity) stirred up the paranormal hornet's nest after the RGB's (or as Garret refers to them the OGB's) busted them into dormancy. Then you get Back In The Saddle where the RGB's return and become a part of the new team... Man seeing a season 2 where they explore the possibility that there may have been a link between Akeria and Gozer or Ivo Shandor and the constantly increasing paranormal activity being a sign that another destructor is on it's way would have been fantastic! Not to mention the potential of encountering another boogie man, sandman or even Sam Hain. I mean, the dude's featured in the opening and even has an action figure. But they did nothing with it.

For real though, Men in Black is the better movie. It's more focused, more mysterious, more intriguing, and more well put together of a film and Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have a charisma SNL actors don't generally possess. Yeah, the sequels were all sorts of trash, but it's not like Ghost Busters is one to talk.
