On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

@@GrowlingSidewinder Hey there - Fresh Tom here!! Sorry about that. Yes, I did realize you were friendly after I launched the Phoenix. I am still learning the Tomcat. Jester did not say you were friendly until well after I had you locked and fired. I had it in pilot radar mode and it kept locking you (which was my fault). But yeah, I realized you were friendly at that point and wasn't trying to engage anymore - but my radar kept locking you, so I realize that was not a good thing. Anyway, sorry again ! I did not get mad, because I realize you shot me down due to self-defense, even though I knew I wasn't trying to shoot you anymore lol. Learning better now about asking AWACS if you are friendly, etc.

Idk about prettiest cockpit, but it definitely has the best view of any aircraft due to the bubble canopy. Literally nothing but glass all the way around. It's awesome.

Another key point to launching at M1.3 is the missile attached to your airplane is also M1.3. Why is this important? The missiles does not have to go through the "draggy" transonic region. Yes, even a sleek missile has to contend with "the" transonic. When the F-18 came into service, the concerns about launching a missile under M1.2 (transonic) were very real. Why? The F-18's inability to easily get THROUGH transonic with missiles and tanks was a cause of real concern. Launching a missile on a supersonic Hornet was... not like launching a missile on an Eagle. The Hornet took WORK to get past M1.2 for an AIM-7 launch, and this work meant fuel, loss of altitude trading for speed, and time to do all this. The Eagle would plug in the burners and shortly thereafter, M1.2++++++++++ for the FOX-1. "Disco" said in an interview the F-15C with 8 missiles and a centerline tank, would do M2.35 at 30,000 ft with no zero G push or unloading. And remember, transonic drag goes both ways, up and down the Mach. Staying above M1.2 running away from a missile launch means the "out of rocket motor energy" missile will hit the TRANSONIC WALL chasing you as its speed bleeds from M3.0+ down to M2.0, M1.6, M1.5, M1.4, M1.3, and then tied to a major deceleration anchor at M1.2. Perhaps GS can treat us to such a video, outlining the difference between jets (14, 15, 16, 18) M0.8 to M1.3 at 20K, 30K and 40K, for an AIM-7/120 missile launch. Good vid as usual GS.

I love the 16. Yesterday on Greyflag, I took off from AL Minhad and never took it out of burner. Ended up at 51,000 feet Mach 1.61, mad dogged an aim-120 at an A-50 around 40 miles away. It actually hit! XD

get the aircraft you're more passionate about. it will keep you going when you feel unmotivated to keep learning it. If you like them both equally I would say get the F-16 because it allows you to do the radar work yourself so you learn a lot about radar management. In the F-14 its always your RIO (human or AI) doing the radar work for you. (also with the tomcat you don't get amraams so its harder to kill things)

I went with the Tomcat just because I’m a sucker for carrier ops and I really enjoy the BARCAP and FastCAP roles that go with it. But if you like a jet that can be neck-deep in it with a faster turnaround, you can’t beat the Viper. Especially if you want to throw A/G into the mix.

I'm curious if you could get an air-to-air kill with a HARM or other ARM. Obviously it wouldn't work against someone with Fox 3s since they'd just turn cold, but what about an opponent with Fox 1s? Could it potentially give some BVR capability to a plane that otherwise wouldn't have any?

There are missiles that use can use passive radiation as one of the homing modes, just that it is (how I understand) a pure intercept path meaning it can't/won't pull enough lead. It would only be effective in front aspect, non maneuvering targets
