That Was a Bigger Job Than I Expected! Differential Replacement.

Today on Bernie Rubbers Garage I bring you a "quick" summary video of about 2 weeks worth of work working on the C5 Z06! It all started with the need to replace the differential due to excessive diff whine... But, while you're in there, you might as well replace a whole lot of stuff!
New diff, clutch, pilot bearing, slave cylinder, flywheel, rebuild the torque tube, new control arm bushings, ball joint, brake master cyclinder, tires, rear brake pads. SIGH!
Needless to say it didn't all go smoothly! And if you're still reading, a little secret: I had to remove the drivetrain TWICE (not shown in the video). The first time we got the input shaft mostly in but used the bell housing bolts to get the last 5mm of gap. I slept on it, and decided to pull the whole thing out again. Luckily I did since it looked like the pilot bearing wasn't happy. So a new pilot bearing and we carefully wiggled the input shaft ALL the way in without using the bolts to drive it back together.
Well, it's all together now, and the car is running well!

I figured it would probably be easier since I was replacing the differential as well. I think having a narrower unit to work with helps putting it back in too.

Just did my diff. at 75 years, this was a fairly big challenge, single handed, altho I do have a lift, and my muscular son in law to help with the heavy lifting. Oof!

Did you drop the whole unit or just the subframe and diff? It's a big job! Especially trying to align the input shaft into the pilot bearing!

Caution, while Delrin has a low coefficient of friction with inherent lubricity it is ever so slightly hydroscopic. Hopefully the manufacturer of the bushings took this into account.
