32:14 Texas Equisearch is honestly so incredible. It was founded by a man who’s daughter went missing and he’d go out on his horse looking for her. Then he realized that there were tons of people missing. So while he was out looking for his daughter, he might as well be looking for them too. And that’s like how it was born. It’s all volunteers. Honestly it’s really a sad and beautiful thing.

@@brenofbrokeburg that's a really good point. If a place is too shady for one cop, you get more cops until you have the contingencies covered, and then go in. You don't just pull a Uvalde and say, nah I ain't gonna in there!

@bajonista 3 ай бұрын
@@brenofbrokeburgThe guy the cop was talking to wasn't a cop. It could be a shady place with squatters or a meth lab or something, or it's not actually abandoned and the homeowner could be jumpy. He shouldn't be sending a civilian into a random creepy situation, and this is after dark in the Texas countryside, and unfortunately the property owner or resident would be within their rights to shoot first and ask questions later. Either way, not ok to tell some dude to go wandering around. They didn't search much because it was private property, so they'd need a warrant or probable cause. Now, I'd be more concerned about the safety of a naked, stoned guy wandering around in December myself, so I'd have kept looking around, but I'm not a jaded cop.

Speaking on the Tom Messick case, the reason why the FBI were called in to investigate is because Tom’s brother disappeared in the forests of Upstate New York several years prior to Tom’s disappearance. Furthermore, they never found any traces of his brother so I’m assuming the FBI believed that both of their disappearances must’ve been related in some capacity. At the end of the day the whole case is truly baffling and quite bizarre.

Take anything you hear from David Paulides with a grain of salt. He's a known fraud. Missing Enigma and Zealous Beast both have debunked Paulides and his books, especially Zealous Beast who goes through case by case and proves Paulides is nothing but a liar who profits off the misery of others. He's just a disgraced former cop turned conman who believes Bigfoot is to blame for the Missing 411 but he won't come out and say it directly only hint at it (he has written books about Bigfoot as well).

There's a saying along the lines of never attribute to malice what you can attribute to stupidity (or laziness). The jason landry case is quite odd. Im a paramedic in the central valley in california and i see a lot of hypoglycemic patients involved in automobile accidents and this definitely seems to fit the bill. Hypoglycemia can make you extremely hot which can lead to stripping of the clothes. It also can make you severely confused, slurred speech, dizziness, difficulty concentrating and anxiety. A lot of dissapearances ive looked at in my youtube doomscrolling fit this issue and its hardly ever taken into concideration by law enforcement.

A sudden medical event like this was my thought too. It explains the getting lost, the crashing, and the undressing then panic. If he was mentally compromised he could have ran off into the woods and died from the medical event, or just exposure. Then his body eaten by a pack of wild hogs. They will eat bone and all, especially in the winter when food is more scarce.
@mitrovarr

Another possibility is that he was developing schizophrenia and this was his first psychotic break. The heavy pot use could have been self-medication, he could have ditched all his stuff because of paranoia (he could have thought he was being tracked), and the body was never found because he hid himself away very carefully before he died from hypothermia.

Ain't that the truth. Saw a story a few years ago that some man was on his farm and went to get the mail or something and disappeared. Possibly in front of their eyes. They never could find him but some people could hear him for a while after he disappeared. It was I think in the late 1800's or turn of the century. I don't remember all the details but what I do remember is he disappeared and people heard him after he disappeared. Like he got sucked into a different dimension or something really weird. The older I get the more I see how many evil things happen in this world and the more I know, the less I know.

Jason's case reminds me of the case of Lindsay and Hailey Gardner. Both involved in seemingly minor car crashes with no indication of the cause and no evidence of major injury, undressed and left the scene of the accident. Lindsay and Hailey having the additional weirdness of Lindsay actually undressing her baby Hailey as well as herself, a symptom never really seen with standard paradoxical undressing cases, and the fact she seemingly chose to walk off into a desolate field instead of the opposite direction which would have taken them to a road and a street of houses and businesses. At least in the Gardner case the police actually took it seriously and their bodies were eventually found in the area so some closure was given to the family, but like Jason's case they are still left with so many unanswered questions.

A sinkhole really is the most likely for Messick. They can easily form from heavy rain carrying the soil out from beneath tree roots, and the sound could have been a number of roots breaking. If a sinkhole has been there long enough, it can even become something of a chute, which could carry someone deep underground as they slide down the mud. My parents had a mud chute form in their yard which led to their basement wall. Definitely was big enough to fit a person in it, too them forever to dig it up and fill it in.

Hi Mike, Would it be possible to dive into the case of Ariel Kouakou? He went missing in Montreal and after what can be considered a limited investigation, the police said he likely drowned. This happened years ago but us always on my mind. The more I listen to true crime, the more I realize so much more should and could have been done for this young boy. Many speculate that the investigation was so limited due to race. I now live in the area he went missing from and I plan to go check out the park he went missing from myself but I don’t really know what else I can do. I really think Ariel and his family deserve more attention than what the police gave him here.

The Jason Landry case: Hypothermia would take hours to set in. If he stayed in the car, which would have stayed warm for some time after it was turned off, even more time. The other car arrived on the scene about an hour after he crashed, unless he found a walk-in deep freeze there’s no way he could get that hypothermic that quickly.
@AclockworkPurple
@AclockworkPurple 6 ай бұрын
One can become hypothermic relatively quickly under the right circumstances. In some cases one can become moderately hypothermic and experience cognitive dysfunction and confusion with 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours in temperatures around 50 degrees depending on several factors. This can lead to more severe hypothermia and death due to exposure. It doesn’t take “deep freeze” temperatures or hours in some cases. It’s probably not a factor in this instance but hypothermia can be weird when/how it occurs.

I'm really bothered by Jason Landry's story - particularly with the police officer saying "I wouldn't [check the abandoned house] if I were you!" to his partner so matter-of-factly, and isn't questioned on that statement either. They all think that's a normal statement apparently. Why? Also, I went to look at the bodycam footage; they do end up _"going to"_ that house but they _BARELY_ check it. He walks up to it for a minute, walks across 2 sides of it saying "police" and then walks back off. When there is a light on in the barn next to it. Why, if it's abandoned? I mean they specifically confirmed verbally it was indeed abandoned. Why is the light on? Why aren't we checking inside if it's abandoned? How do we know he wasn't there?
@2anthro

I wonder why to this day that abandoned house has never been checked? Its a big old house with several floors of nooks and closets, his remains could be in there now and no one has bothered. The chief of police really threw himself between that house and the patrolman police officer's query!!

Police incompetence early in an investigation is often the reason for many unsolved crimes. Too many jaded, poorly trained and just plain bad cops with a pathetically low bar for entry. Especially in rural areas, where they essentially act as local mafia. Most of the small American towns I've lived in were either operating speed trap scams or busting local drug dealers, stealing the evidence and selling it themselves. One thing that never gets reported on are the amount of addicts who are murdered or kidnapped and are never investigated at all. One town I lived in, women with past addiction issues were vanishing. Police did nothing because they assumed it was drug related. Turned out to be Shawn Grate, who is covered in an episode of That Chapter. In a town very near there my uncle turned up dead along the railroad tracks, his clothes half removed from someone dragging his body there, with signs of a struggle and a headwound. The cops (aware he was a local addict) did absolutely no investigating until an autopsy was done (which takes a few months for the results) then chalked it up to a drug overdose because he had drugs in his system and called it a day. To be honest, the only reason people like Jason Landry even get investigated at all was because he had a lot of friends and family who were pretty middle class, he was a college student, and it got press attention. You can tell in their initial bodycam, they assumed immediately it was drug related so they didn't care. The more news worthy, the more effort they put in. If you're of a lower class, go missing or get killed, and you get no press attention, most cops will do NOTHING. It's like you never existed at all.

That last story about Jason, everything in me is telling me that the police know more than what they're saying. How is it that you go to a potential crime scene (as a police officer) with a potential victim and no investigation is done? Wouldn't you want to know if there was some maniac on the loose in your town? And then the sheriff said wildlife could've gotten him. I don't think so! He would see evidence of animal predation! There's obvious signs when it's animal prediction. These are really weak excuses for why they're not doing their damn job. I pray that nothing like this happens to my child. Because if this was my son I would reign holy hellfire down on that town! 😡

Totally agree! Something very fishy about that one! Maybe a cop found him after the accident and there was a struggle or the cop didn't like him because of the pot? Then the officer made him disappear? Idk, but it's definitely strange. He was quick to say "No no no I wouldn't go up there if I was you." All of his stuff is scattered around but no signs of him. Creepy.

@@ddmc424 exactly! I just don't know who's acting odder, the police in that town or the parents. Why haven't the parents asked the state police or whoever to do an investigation on how the issue was handled? At the very least the parents should sue the department to get some more attention on the case again and fix the issue of incompetence in the police department. It just seems to me the both of them are a little lax.

Texas cops are useless bullies. They’ve all been “soft quitting” since the pandemic started. Texas state troopers do cops jobs out here in waves. Add that to the many that are very open about “thin blue line” politics that clearly have them picking and choosing what they will and won’t do in the community in between “thin blue line” marches. Texas is a sesspool. Truly, none of this is surprising.

Hi, I work in a psychiatric hospital and I just want to mention that there is a strong association between cannabis use and psychosis. Jason was exactly at the age when first psychotic breaks tend to occur in young men, and cannabis use may have triggered a psychotic state, which would explain his leaving the car, taking off his clothes, wandering off, etc...He may even have hidden from police in his state (delusions, etc...). I realize this does not explain why his body was not found, but to me that is the most likely explanation for what actually happened to him that night: he became extremely vulnerable in a state of acute psychosis, wandered off and died of exposure.

I thought this as well, this happens to young men a lot in their early twenties or mid-teens, brought on by marijuana usage. But I would assume this is for those already predisposed to schizophrenia? Of course you don’t know until you do, but IF he had no family history of it or associated mental illnesses it would move further down the list. If he DOES have a family history of it…then it moves up to theory number one for me. I tell my students all the time that you don’t know how you’ll react…sure, it’s not meth, but it’s still a drug. Since I have GAD with severe panic attacks, “on the bipolar spectrum” (they gave me mood stabilizers and some patterns weren’t as clear so…sure), and the ADHD plus some trauma, I’ve had some bad trips (to be clear, when I was in college in the early 2000s, long before I wanted to teach high school). I know one time I tried to leave my bf’s apartment because he "wanted me to die" because i was "having a heart attack". it was 100% a panic attack, a classic by the book one, and I was just out of my mind frantic. Those years of therapy that made it easy for me to identify one coming? out the door. He had seen me have hundreds of them, monitored vitals since he had to have a pulse oximeter for himself anyway, and aside from elevated heartrate, nothing. Four hours later i was apologizing to his roomates. You just never know. And on his behalf if he had at any point thought there was any symptom that wasn’t classic panic attack, he would definitely have called. Neither of us were the type to die because we were afraid the hospital would know we smoked a joint. Eventually he had to convince me to lie down “because see look your heart rate went down” (of course that made it go down but again, in full blown marijuana fueled panic attack for hours, that voice of logic in my head was sleeping on the job) with his dog and just pet her while he went to go find one of my klonopin for my panic attacks and finally got a break when I fell asleep.

Another great one Mike!! When I was in high school…right here in SW Missouri, one of my ‘friends’ stole a baby in Oklahoma and brought it back to pass off as her own. We were coworkers at Hardee’s and she’d been to my house to try on her maternity uniform…but she was never pregnant. That was a food baby she was carrying, literally. She would eat her fries by the tray full…she was fattening herself up to look preggo. She was all over town with that baby, we were planning a baby shower for her! One evening my mom and I were watching the news and saw the missing baby. I picked up the phone to call her in, but my mom talked me out of it. My Speech teacher made the call and turned her in. Years before she did that, she’d had a crush on my brother…one night, my mom woke up at 2:00 AM to someone standing in her doorway. It was Heather Brewster looking to crawl in bed with my brother. She hid in our bathroom, it was crazy. Her grandfather was a teacher at my high school, there were rumors that he abused some of the guys. I’d like to see you give this a goooo!!!

As someone who’s familiar with the Adirondacks and growing up here all my life. I 100% believe he could have easily gone missing and never found. When the escape from danamora happened their were times the helicopter were right above them and they still couldn’t capture them. The area is so secluded and it has so much vegetation that you could die and easily be never found. Now add in things like predators that will eat dead things and it’s no suprise. We also have a history of serial killers in the park. There’s mine shafts, sink holes, bogs. Heck quick sand is very real. I almost died a few years back fishing. There had been a drought and the river had receded 10-20 yards. It looked solid. One step and woosh up to my hips in mud. Luckily I was close enough to shore that I could grab hold of a branch, lay flat and work my legs out and I could crawl back to shore. An 82 year old man wouldn’t have been able to do that and they would have just became part of the river bank intombed in thousands of pounds of mud never to be seen again. Same with bogs and Peat moss.

Exactly. I'm a hunter and full time ADK resident as well and people tend to discount just how vast the wilderness is here because it is located within the state of New York. Six million acres with about 130,000 full time residents is a lot of harsh terrain, weather conditions, and predation with little nearby help. The majority of the park has no cell service either, and radio signal only goes so far and for how long the battery lasts. It's sad and unfortunate, but mother nature is cruel and the wilderness, unforgiving.

People from outside the park don’t realize this and dress woefully unprepared for the weather especially if they get lost. The thing that would save most people, is to pack warmer cloths, learn and carry a compass and map, a knife and flint and a few mre meals and pocket fishing reel. And how to make basic snares. The added weight is nothing and can fit in a back pack easily for any outdoor trip and could easily save your life. All skills they can pick up on a weekend or day course.

There's something I noticed about the abandoned house footage there. Is there is a light on the barn with electric. It looks like the older type of lamp that uses the halogen/Fluorescent bulb and ballast (actually might be wrong about that part)... Neither of which has a tendency to last very long without maintenance. So it couldnt have been too abandoned if someone is out there needing electric to see at night, and upkeeping an outdated light....

I remember the town bully thing. There was a made for TV movie about it starring the dude who played Tackleberry in Police Academy movies.

I suppose Trevor Deely here in Ireland would be right up there I mean when you see the video footage in the period just before he disappeared its eerie to say the least another one is Deirdre Jacob who literally disappeared as she was entering her gate during broad daylight I mean its like she was there one minute and gone the next and another one is Brian Shaffer who was seen entering a bar but was never seen exiting it these are just some of the few tat grab my attention

Jason Landry's story reminds me of the movie "Nocturnal Animals." Add to that the movie starred Armie Hammer and the whole scenario gives me the creeps. Something happened to Jason on that road. You don't just vanish into thin air. Texas is flat, dry and full of dirt roads. All kinds of freaks are on those back roads, hunting people down for the thrill of the kill. What a said ending for his family. I feel so sad for them. Mike, keep up the good work. I've been watching your channel for a long time. I am so excited to see you have close to 2 million subscribers. Your content is exciting, and your delivery is second to none.

Very good story, Mike. I don’t understand how the police just left his stuff out there to see if there was any DNA on it from another person. I just feel like the police in that Texas town were just lazy and didn’t care because they found weed.

17:38 Tom was a good friend of my grandfather and when he went missing I had just finished training for HVTT in the Marines (HVTT= High Value Target Tracker). I helped search for Tom. It was so strange. All we found was what we believe was his favorite handkerchief which had the initials of his unit embroidered on it.

I remember this and most people think it’s a serial killer case. I live in Lake George (it’s as beautiful as they say btw, I promise) but there are some backwoods scary & antisocial/uneducated people. Not to mention it’s a HUGE remote & wild/remote forest in places so, it’s a hard place to search. Knowing that, the FBI involvement isn’t uncommon as they give assistance to the search parties BUT it became out place when they started investigating w/questions that lead some to think it was more than a random occurrence. Weird 🧐
