People generally hate the evo x for two reasons. The 4b11t, and the weight. As for the 4b11t, the 4g63t is a 20+ year old engine. It needed to change eventually. There's loads of new technology that could be implemented with a new engine platform, and the EPA forced Mitsubishi's hand, so it was a good a time as any to update the platform. It is lighter, produces more power out of the box, and it is more tuner friendly, albeit with most tuners having far less experience with it over the 4g63t, but that's the nature of having an engine out there for two decades. People get very familiar with it. The 4b11t doesn't start to lag behind the 4g63t until you start to get into really high power numbers, wherein the closed deck iron block of the 4g63t helps it out tremendously. But, at that point, you've already swapped out the internals and sleeved the block, so both platforms can hit four digit numbers, which makes the closed deck advantage a moot point. And as for the weight, if 200lbs more weight over the previous gen makes it as many say "not a real evo", then the 7, 8 and 9 aren't either, being 600lbs heavier than every generation prior to those. Realistically, it's just a case of "new bad old good."

The biggest argument I’ve heard on why people dislike the 4b11t is that it’s a cast aluminum block and when you try to make power on that block you have to be extremely careful because the block is more prone to cracking vs the 4g63’s cast iron block. This is just from what I’ve heard some people say
@surrealinabox52203 жыл бұрын
I think we all can agree that the X is a better handling car over the 8 and 9 honestly. Imo, I wish the X was lighter but it's the trade off of having a modern car verses a track and off road purpose car with Rally heritage. Stock for stock, the EVO X has it but when big power numbers and mods is a thing, everyone will say due to how long it been around and the vast aftermarket its had, the 8 and 9 have the advantage.
@Yakobito3 жыл бұрын
@@10Fails1234567890 I’ve actually heard the opposite. Correct me if im wrong, The 4b11’s cast aluminum, open deck design allows the block to “flex” as it needs to under high boost thus reducing the chance of warping/cracking the cylinder walls.

I like most guys my age fell in love with tuners from fast and the furious. When it was getting close to me getting my license the X came out and I thought it was the most badass car ever and I said to myself one day I will own one. Fast forward 10 years and I got the chance to purchase a final edition #1238. I've owned it now 3 years and put 60k miles on it and use it as a daily. One day it'll be crazy loud and spin all four but for now it gets me around and has been my single favorite car to ever own. I hope to keep it forever and one day pass it down to one of my kids.

I do pretty damn well at rallyx's with 255whp and 238 lbs/ft of tq. Basically if you know how to drive either of these cars you can have a damn good time. Most people dont have enough talent (I'm not claiming to be great, its just a fact to consider) to utilize the potential of these cars in stock form, let alone ones making 500-900whp. Besides, they're being turned into drag setups, which is as far from their original design purpose as you can get. As a former Ralliart X owner, all I have to say is: Stay away from the TC-SST transmission if you're planning to tune the engine. It's the same transmission they use the MR trim of the Evo X. It's an expensive transmission with expensive fluid and no aftermarket fluids either. The fluid actually has conductors in it for the TCU, so if you use other DCT fluids you could and will likely total the transmission. It also can't handle much more than 400hp before it needs to be seriously upgraded, and most tuners don't know enough about it to do a good job. Cobb Accessports have been rumored to cause damage to that transmission as well, it tunes the engine but changes nothing in the TCU which can lead to premature clutch wear. If you're getting an Evo X, just get the GSR and save yourself from that potential nightmare.

I'm almost at 100k on stock transmission. But I only have a catback exhaust though so maybe that has something to do with it. 🤔

But even though I got lucky, I was also shown pictures of those transmissions who weren't as lucky. Also, you should be safe up to 400whp as long as you use the OEM liquid. I got lucky, I should not be the example to follow. Bottom line is, if you're stuck with the TC-SST, make sure to baby it with on-time oil changes, OEM, and make sure your tuners know WTF they are doing. The Ralliart FB group Ralliart Revolution is a good source of info. Lots of experienced Ralliart pro tuners post on that site. Some people even sell the OEM liquid for much cheaper than dealership prices. Great place to be for any TC-SST owners.

I have a 15 EVO X. I love it. The Varis EVO is awesome. Beautiful car. I was always a Subaru guy Was planing on getting a 15 STI after owning a bugeye for 15 years. Till I drove an EVO. They’re that good. Amazing car. Really fun to drive on backroads.

You aint had a proper Evo experience until you have been in a Evo V/VI. Those are the goat models in my eyes. Lightest, Best looking and just about as raw as it gets for an Evo.

Nice to see this car again. Was a local car that was regularly at out local C&C coffee event in the Chicagoland area. Then Jackie dings partner bought it and it sat in a shop for 2 years

The x grew on me but it took a while. It's still an evo and gets my attention whenever I see one. I remember my tuner saying the x was basically somewhat a Hyundai bc they utilized a few parts

I own an evo X MR 2012 and mine is still stock, from the inside to the outside, and It looks and run so well that everyone thinks I did something to the engine or to the exterior. The handling is as amazing, the interior is way better than the GSR. I think people hate it because is not the 9 or the 8 people don't like changes when it comes to cars.
@SolarBlackShine3 жыл бұрын
I personally think it is the best evo. The Evo x was not designed like the previous evos where they took a lancer and added a different drivetrain. An evo where the car is designed as an awd not an fwd that was converted to awd. may be heavier, but more balanced. its perfect.

Reliability - I’ve had my X since 2010 new. It had been upgraded to MR spec. I’ve put on 260,000 KM and serviced it every 5000 - 7000 km. Only components I’ve changed are brakes and tyres due to wear. I had the SST oils changed at 130KM. Spark plugs changed at 180KM Will do the oils again at the next service.

The factory specified intervals for the transmission fluid and filters and re-teach was 60000 km or 30-40 if driven hard there's plenty of owners that will testify what happens if you dont. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the grief of having to replace the whole trans, service it more regularly.

I actually bought my 08 GSR with a Varis front bumper and Varis/Runduce side skirts lol. I didn't know who or what Varis was or even realized it until the next day lol. I just love the Varis bumper, it gives that car a more aggressive look.

The rigidity comment was important and more info like that would be appreciated. Its hard to find comparison videos between the ACD 8/9s and the 10 and details on the specific driver impact differences are key. I owned a brand new 2005 Evo 8 off the lot and selling me on the Evo X both handling better and being more fun is a hard sell. That said, the 10s are a good bit cheaper...

I really loved all the older Evos and it was hard to like the X until I saw all the potential and how much of a better daily driver the X is. The X handles amazing for how heavy it is. Even with bolt ons the evo X are extremely fun.
@Robby94LS3 жыл бұрын
I actually like them a lot more now than when they were new. And because they don't hold their value like the 8 and 9, I'd TOTALLY go for it. Especially now that I'm an older guy who just wants a more fun daily and work in a major city, that auto is CALLIN me!
@nonyabusiness86933 жыл бұрын
The one in the video is pretty nice. It’s more of a show car than a DD or race car. I would build the motor, and upgrade the turbo. From factory, they are peppy cars, but like you said, it kind of falls flat. I did a GTX3576R in my MR, and it’s in a great spot for power. Good powerband, and just enough to have a little fun. Rare parts arent really my thing, especially the that ARC UICP. People charge over $1k for that pipe. Which I think is insane..but no matter what aspect of being an enthusiast, you have to pay to play, and I can still respect that. I think it’s a nice car overall.

Evo X for the win. Love the bigger more aggressive body, love it's presence when I see one, the power is enough for me, love the car for what it is. I'm also a little biased because I'm 6'4 and have always hated small cars because I don't fit and feel so uncomfortable. I need to be comfortable in a car that I want to drive everyday.

I love it, but being a blue Evo X owner (South Africa) with bolt ons I am baised. I'd love to get my hands on a Varis kit but pricing is insane... Like half the value of the car. I feel very grateful to be able to drive one of my dream cars. I have the MR with the Dodson Sportsman Plus clutch core. It's pretty awesome on the street.

Haven’t watched the video yet but I’m just here to say I love evo x’s. The motor may not be as good as older generations but they look sick with meaty tires and wide wheels and all you need is bolt ons and e85 and you got a solid ripper. But I’m in the crowd of “it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is a fast car slow”

Every time I see a video on Evo's I think the same two things. 1. The Jackie Chan edition of the evo was completely badass. 2. I wish I had the money to give my car the aero treatment that I see on EVO'S, time attack cars and le mans cars.
