I'm not feeling this one. The speed is at constant odds with all the side stuff you need to slow down for. And the controls feel fiddly. Meh, Nioh 2 in the lategame is complex. Starcraft 2 is complex. Is this complex? I doubt. It looks like 99% of the time you're doing the same series of moves of jump, dbl jump, air dash, swing. If you replaced the dash and swing inputs with a jump input it'd be just you flying through the levels, skipping most of them by "triple jumping". That's why it gets mundane. I'm a big platformer fan but I quit this at the end of the demo and I don't feel like going back.

There are a lot of great 3d sonic games. Just the top 4: Sonic adventure 1 and 2 Sonic unleashed Sonic frontiers Also, to the guy who said frontiers is just ok and not great: in my opinion, it is indeed great. A lot of fans agree with this opinion.

It looks pretty cool. Somehow it manages to look like a 3D version of the 16 bits Sega platformers. Actually to me this is what the 3D Sonic games should have been. Not that I don't like what it's become, but the Genesis episodes have never been solely about speed. It was about interesting mechanics and level designs. And I'm pretty sure you can add a bit of speed to what I'm seeing here. Some fans would obviously disagree but a 3D Sonic game needs to be slow imo, and not just during some sidecrolling parts.

To have a sequel to that be something more in common with 3D Mario than Sonic would've been a bad decision. There are already a ton of 3D Sonic games out there. If they made a sequel to the best Sonic game, it would need to stay in 2D.

Penny's Big Breakaway looks like a very smooth game to play, once you've got the hang of the controls. It certainly seems like it's trying to do its own thing, while paying homage to what's come before it, and I could definitely see myself getting lost running around collecting everything I can find on a given stage, just for the sake of doing so. It feels rare to come across a game with satisfying movement mechanics nowadays, so it's good to see this one lets you fly around however you want, once you've nailed the controls. All in all, great video Jirard. Lookin forward to the next one.
