Being an old man and having seen the progression of talent from the late 70's when I first started playing rudimental snare to what it is today is truly amazing. The level of musicianship, chops, control and overall sound that is coming out of these young people is inspirational. I can't imagine being in the same universe with people like Brandon. He's a naturally gifted and hard working young man who has earned every bit of praise he receives. Congratulations Brandon, you're truly one of a kind!
@mpk6664

With all due respect, that "natural talent" is pure hard work and dedication. No one is naturally talented in something like this.

@@mpk6664 Hence the reason I said ,"He's a naturally gifted and hard working young man who has earned every bit of praise he receives." Natural talent absolutely plays a roll in addition to the obvious hard work he puts in. They go hand in hand.

One thing that has helped drummers reach higher levels of rudimentary execution is the advancement of drum technology. Back in the 60's and 70's the drums that I am familiar with were very basic. One shell, two single ply heads, two steel rims and a set of snares, all balanced on the side of your leg with no leg brace. Very basic equipment but still fun. Fast forward to today. High tension Kevlar drum heads and cast iron high tension rims with full body mount harnesses to carry your drum. Because of the extreme high tension of the new drum heads a Drummer can easily multiply their rebounds and speed 10 times over. However, the finger control required to do what this Drummer is doing is still amazing. He would be a great Drummer on any kind of drum. There may have been better equipment in the 60's but I never saw it. I think drums are a little like automobiles. They have advanced a lot since the old days. That is a very good thing for modern drummers.
