This is Latha Raghuraman, I want to share with you one thing Rakesh which is a slight variation to this thavalai vadai. My mother in law used to make a dry coarse powder of the ingredients except coconut. This is like an instant mix , she adds water, grated coconuts and shallow fries it in dosa tawa till it becomes crispy
@padmaja804 жыл бұрын
This is a good idea. Will try this. Thanks.

Yes in 1979 I was not having mixi and even urai I used to grind it from machine .Whenever needed I socked this power (which is grinded a little big rava) in hot water adding coconut and salt.Added red chillies when grinding.

Wish Raghu mama a very Happy birthday and many many more to celebrate . My Namaskarams to him. Singinadham ... what a word ..... it's our own Tanjore district asset . Rakesh a slight variation from my family cooking. Keep half of moving dal soaked as it is without grinding. You soak half the required quantity of moongdal separately and add while adding coconut. You will achieve atmost crispness.

I would like to comment on few things: 1. The camaraderie you share with your mom is heart warming 2. I appreciate you that handwritten recipe script by your Pati is still saved 3. "Singinaadam" - vernacular version of "Shankha Naadam" There's an interesting story i read about this, dating back to pre independence times, the CUMIN sellers would come by carts and blow the pipes (or shankha) to draw the attention of the home makers. Later the sound of the pipe became synonymous with cumin vendors. "Singinaadam-jeelakarra (jeerai, as you call it) is complete line of this saying.
