Notes from the talk: -We are not built to feel happy all the time. -The skill of the century is the ability to not distracted. -Calendar instead of a to do list. İts not about checking boxes of your to do list but rather completing what you promise without distraction -

We create ourselves little by little, every day through what we do on a regular basis. This is why the most important thing we can do to reach our goals and become who we want to become is to figure out what habits will get us there, and to devote our energy to creating those habits now. Creating a habit requires an initial application of discipline and effort, but once a habit is established it will actually require LESS discipline and effort to maintain. That is the power of designing your life through mindfully choosing to form the right habits.

This was life changing for me, thank you so much!!!!!💜💜💜

I don't see how visualizing dealing with a negative distraction is a good positive vision. I have been visualizing doing the positive actions to get results. This puts me in a positive mindset to actually do the work. I have an if-then-plan to deal with distractions and problems that may come up; I don't dwell on that. The if-then-then plan can be done after reflection and study. Visualization to me is a sacred moment to unlock our true potential; no need to put any kind of negativity in it, in my opinion. Why does he call other techniques stupid? What may work for one may not work for another, as we are individuals in different environments. "Learn to say No" to distractions is the meaning, not your boss. Test it all and see what works best for you.
@susangoncharenko7463
@susangoncharenko7463 3 жыл бұрын
Also, had no one heard of the 80/20 technique?! Been around for decades! Still works! In fact, in my opinion, if u get distracted for a bit and then go back to what u'r doing, u'r more likely to come up with something better /solve a problem/think of something new! Because u stepped away from it for a bit! U can only hold ur full attention on something for 15/20 mins (tho this varies further), so what I do, is bounce between things, spending 20 mins on each! Works for me! 👍
@younasmohammed6364
@younasmohammed6364 2 жыл бұрын
This can be summarised in less than 15-mins. You just need to be mindful about distractions that take you away from scheduled priorities. This applies to you as the individual, your relationships and your work/hobby Good luck

What exactly is the big difference in having a long-term goal or to do list compared to having it in your calendar? As he made it clear it's much better to have it in your calendar??! I don't see the big difference between having it as a goal or long-term plan compared to in your calendar??! Is it not the same worded differently !? To do lists are bad but a calendar is good ??! To do lists have limits and deadlines for me, I have a limit to do it so I don't really understand why there is a big difference If anyone understood this concept better please explain it.
@fabriciosantiagovallascian2884
@fabriciosantiagovallascian2884 3 жыл бұрын
As you said, it seems to be related and somewhat the same thing worded differently. However, the point of the video seems to revolve around "how to deal with distractions effectively" instead of "over" focus on your goals (for which there's a lot of information already available). So, you allocate time for both: goals and time to relax (we are not machines). Then, envision the person you want to become as a whole comprised of several layers that work in harmony and you keep the balance in all aspects of your life. So even "fun"/"rest" should be part of your calendar (whatever fun/rest means to you) as you have to keep yourself healthy for another day of productivity. Being productivity understood as working towards a goal by managing your time effectively and having strategies to deal with distractions and keeping yourself sane and healthy

And no, It IS an addiction, not a distraction! Ur body produces certain chemicals while being 'distracted' by Insta or FB, for example! And these are what u get addicted to!! Sure, u can deal with that addiction by being mindful of everything u do & understanding why u'r doing it! The key is to swap it out, so these chemicals get replaced by others, which ur body will still get addicted to, whether u like it or not!! I.e. Swapping binge eating for exercising... Don't agree with this guy on so many things! Sad that he will teach others these false things... ☹️

A lot of ideas that work and are important but this guy Nir Eyal has a few contradictions in his approach to building a healthy daily schedule. So lots of unreachable /unattainable behaviors that are just out of reach to take action. Some way too complicated theories. Everything he's talking about also is to promote his book. Also, you can combine a to do list to reach goals with scheduling as an example. Nir Eyal has gotten himself into extreme and comprehensive waters, too much unfortunately for people to exclusively commit to.

This guy talks nonsense about quite a few things unfortunately! U'r suppose to say 'no' if u'r a ppl pleaser running around doing things u'r never even thanked for! And u'r supposed to use the secret not to 'imagine what u want to be', but to know u are it! Either he doesn't fully understand these consepts or takes the mic out of them on purpose (which is a neat trick tbf)! Although I've used the 'not just yet' technic myself for a while (over a decade ago I saw a bit about cravings going away after 7/8 mins & noticed it works, mainly, because one gets distracted & forgets about that thing they were going to eat, so I reverse engineered it to use for distractions themselves, which used to be a huge problem for me!😬). This, along w/mindfulness = less time spent on distractions! Although I'm against habits and programs, so I do more random things in a day and I purposefully let myself get distracted! For me the key to life is being present in whatever u'r doing! So going random ensures u'r not sleep walking through ur day mindlessly! 🤷‍♀️
