Yeah, there seemed to be no real logical reason for his downgrade from costume from the Cap1 movie towards the Av1 movie. I could get why they did not really 'get' how to make his suit look good in the first place, because if we're honest, it's not a suit that really translates easily to a real life movie, but it did not seem like there was any real reason that I could think of that could explain why they've downgraded it, and made it look more "ridiculous" again.

I'm really afraid feathers will just look too campy - at least for my taste. I like it if they have suits that at least look inspired by the comics, but at the same time do not look too campy/cosplay. Some suits are great for this, like ironman's and black panther's suits, because they're full body suits, but these suits that have masks that showcase half of a face, tend to look a bit easily campy. For example, I think Thor does look better without any headwear than with. He was lucky enough to have a suit that translated relatively easy to the big screen without needing to much alteration. Some comic costumes look really low budget if they were anywhere near a literal translation from their comic book suit, like for example antman would look really budget. I think they did a great job with antman, by giving him a tech-sort-of-suit that looks like it "makes sense" (although it does not - i know) , but similarly converys at least some basic elements of the suit, like it's colors, the metal helmet idea and such. I think like for example if you look at Fox's early X-men movies, they do not look campy, but raelly had absolutely nothing to do with their looks in the comics either. I personally think both quicksilver kind of had/have a cheap solution for a suit. However, i can imagine a young guy with grey hair would look a bit odd too...and that spandex too...but yeah..

Well they made it armor and they made the green much darker and changed the orange to gold, played up the fantasy aspect of it, Jason Mamoa continued to be a badass, and I think overall they pulled it off successfully

Vulture is a great redesign. In the comics, he always looked ridiculous, and I couldn't believe that decades later, he was still wearing that silly parrot suit, and still a major Spidey villain. Whenever anyone mentioned putting him in a movie, I'd cringe. But Keaton nailed it, and the suit was great, with a totally upgraded look, but with the fur collar calling back to his silly...neck fringe...feathers...from the comics.

Whats even more amazing is the concept of the Vulture. He takes scraps, and bits and pieces from previous materials from other machines and vehicles to create, replenish, and improve his armor and suit. Much like a real vulture would take scraps for themselves. Idk it might not be true, or that might not be how the writers did it, but i like that idea hehe

I think it deserves to be said that comic book characters were designed to be put into comic books. That is, the less details and more plain solid color you have on your costume, the less effort the artist has to put in to draw them 100's times across thousands of panels of comics. The more brightly colored they are, the less the artist has to worry about the character not standing out against whatever background happens to be in every panel. It would be a nightmare to put Spider-Man Homecoming's version of the Vulture into a comic book because there's so many details. I'm not saying that the comic looks are better, just that they serve a very specific purpose, and they WORK in that medium because they make it easier to put the work into depicting the action in an attention grabbing way, and not so much on making sure all of the buckles and zippers and pockets are in the right places.

you dont have to worry about how it translates to the screen from a set, or from a costume design on the page. and, you dont have to worry about a mistaken judgement. if its bad, you change it next issue, total cost: zero. in the movies, each costume is what, a few thousand bucks?

The comic costume should be reserved for events that is truly serious for the Guardians (not counting Thanos) that truly signifies Quil's transformation

The vulture redesign works on a character level too, I think. As we learned about him and his motivations in the movie I actually felt like he was relatable. In a " I get where you're coming from, dude, but I wouldn't go about it quite like you do" kind of way. Someone who wasn't just a clear cut psycho or evil bastard but a human being driven to becoming a villain. I mean, a lot of folks in the world that have it rough are just one spectacularily bad day away from turning to crime and that's kind of the category Toombs falls into; he's not a villain born of delusions of grandeur, mad ambition or an insane mind. He's a ruthless man shaped by a merciless, pitiless society.

Falcon's redesign should be credited to Ultimate Comics, not MCU. The colorless militaristic falcon suit was invented for the Ultimate Nightmare miniseries. And I still like the classic design. Not so much when it was drawn during the 70s and 80s, but I like Steve Epting's design of it in his run. It looked cool and would've worked in live-action.

I would say Mark Ruffalo's Hulk is better in certain ways. Still kind of newish to Marvel(only seen most of the movies and the random comic or cartoon here and there) but from what i've seen sporadically over the years is that while comic Hulk looks completely different from comic Banner, Mark's Hulk actually carries over a lot of facial features. Instead of just a giant green man, you have a giant green Mark.

Some notes: 1. Movie Bane doesn't use the Venom injection system that is a staple of his comic persona. I think the muzzle administers some sort of painkiller. 2. Captain America's black o.o suit I think is an homage to his "The Captain" persona from the 80s, which was later given to the US Agent. Camp's WWII/Winter Soldier classic costume is very similar to what you see in Issue #1 of The Ultimates from 2000.

I didn’t dislike Nolan’s Bane but the comic version is also a very tactical military savvy mercenary, and there are some cool comic book designs that incorporate both military gear and his luchador style mask. I think my favorite example is actually not from a comic, but from Batman: Arkham origins. That bane design hits all the right notes for that character.

Something I also love about the Vulture redesign is the aviator jacket with fur around the neck. The fur is something that real vultures share but it also make perfect sense why the character would be wearing something like that. Pilots wear those jackets to insulate themselves from the cold when flying, something the Vulture would obviously need when flying around in the wing suit, additionally fur, whether real or fake has been vital for warmth in cold temperatures for years and has also been a common fashion.

I personally think that every single costume for Killmonger throughout the movie is iconic. A cosplayer would be instantly recognizable wearing any of his looks from the film. The 'Vegeta' armor, the mask from the museum, the black trenchcoat, the Gold Leopard suit...they earned that costume design Oscar.

I disagree with Aquaman, I think he looks weird in Justice League. The full armor looks too soft and fake. I feel that his own film will have a better costume. Also I wish you had gone more into the background and psychology that the film costumes portray or hint at, though you brush upon it in some parts, beyond, "it looks badass".

All right that's pretty cool! I personally think Wonder Woman had a great transition. From a swimsuit that was basically the American flag with a yellow eagle in the comics, the film made it ancestral armor that was clearly Greek in design, and the colors made it look really regal and royal, especially compared to the brown armor of the other Amazons. Really shows that among a race of warrior women, SHE'S the chosen one. Her aunt/ mentor giving her the tiara also added a personal feel.

I thought the Falcon redesign sucked. Sure, the original needed to change to make it even possible to use in a live-action movie, but the movie version failed to capture any of the things which make the comic version great for comics. Instead of the clunky, awkward, mechanical monstrosity we got, they should have created something much more streamlined and fluid. Something that will work organically and naturally with a human being.

@@brianmiller1077 he's nothing to do with the comic book character. Chuck Heston is a phenomenal Moses on screen. Awesome movie. The Bible character was African. Chuck Heston will forever be Moses, the same way Hugh Jackman is your wolverine. But the screen ain't got nothing to do with the book. It'd be interesting to see the actual literary character portrayed. Chuck Heston is a lot closer to Moses than Hugh Jackman is to wolverine. Oddly Kevin heart is physically a better match for both characters. But that's a more interesting casting.
