Several years ago, I read an article that some bass are early spawners, the majority are "traditional time" spawners, and some are late spawners. This helps ensure hatch in the event of dramatic environmental changes. The author postulated that some females spawn some eggs at different times to help ensure propagation. Of course if the bass are REALLY SMART maybe they'll develop stealth technology Forward Facing Sonar>

Quick question, as someone who has zero experience with "electronics" I'm curious to hear your opinion on their effect on river/creek fishing. My assumption is that livescope would be a greater detriment in lakes. If so I'd imagine creek fishing will become far more popular in the near future.

@bassandtreblefishing
@bassandtreblefishing Жыл бұрын
Fishing license proceeds are directly funneled back into the state's fishing and wildlife maintenance. A 48 state license would be bonkers expensive and not worth it since there are still about 20 states that probably wouldn't end up as part of a circuit, it would be difficult for states work together to split funds, and it wouldn't be worth the states time and effort and resources to develop and maintain a 48 state license since so few people would purchase it or could afford it.

As far as fishing being better, i agree this is not true. I grew up fishing Rend Lake in Southern Illinois during the mid 70's. The number of 7 pound bass we caught was just silly. Currently, big bass in tournaments is usually around 6 lbs. Still good, but I dont see the big bags of 7 lb bass any more. Also, the standing timber is mostly gone, the creek channels and river channel are silted in. Just not as good as it was

For the most part I agree with your list with 2 exceptions. Here in florida its well documented that severe cold fronts where the temperature drops drastically shut the fish down . Florida strain bass hate cold weather and do go into a sort of hibernation mode and stop actively feeding. The second is intelligence. Bass do not possess intelligence as it it typically defined in animals. They don’t exhibit behaviors like primates, dolphins & whales - tool using, social interactions, active problem solving, . Common crows have been observed drinking water from a plastic bottle and when their beak no longer could reach the water level they were seen picking up stones and dropping them in the bottle until the water level raised far enough they could drink again - that’s intelligence!Don’t confuse the ability to adapt to their natural environment and survive as intelligence. Carp and alligators have been around just as long and no biologist is going to tell you they are intelligent species
@robertdtimmerman
@robertdtimmerman Жыл бұрын
I agree with you on every point except #7. Bass are creatures that are shaped by their environment. Instinct plays more of a roll in how they act than intelligence. Bass are not capable of generational learning. They don’t live long enough, and they eat their own. Any possible intelligence a 2 year Bass might “learn” is gone the second that 8 or 10 Bass eats it. Bass do learn not to bite that lure that just caused them to be yanked out of the water, as their memory of that event is gone within 30 minutes. Their brain is tiny and does not have the ability to remember longer than a few days or a week. If it did, they could not be tricked into biting lures that look nothing like a bait fish. Having said this, we do need to treat our fisheries with respect and be careful on how we use them.
@kenneth9874

I don't know about that, at times it doesn't take long for a lure to lose effectiveness
@williamgould2470

I agree, bass are not smart but they can become conditioned. Forget this part about fish being around for 3 million years because they're so smart. How many commercial fishermen were around 3 million years ago, what kind of tackle did people use back then, What kind of nets, Boats And the electronics were around 3 million years ago . As I've said, fish can become conditioned but that doesn't last long. maximum of about 3 to 4 months. Sometimes only days. I have caught the same fish on the same lure twice in the same day. So much for intelligence.
@robertdtimmerman
@robertdtimmerman Жыл бұрын
@@kenneth9874…you are correct. But that same lure when fished a different way or different area of a body of water can turn on again and catch fish. They are not dumb creatures by any means, but they do not have the mental ability to be intelligent. If a big Bass dies, all of its experiences die with it. They don’t pass their behavior down to the next generation like we do or even other animals (elephants, dogs, apes).

Bass mortality from all the tournament in my opinion is far worse than forwards facing sonar. Every state has bag limits to prevent overfishing. Maybe tournaments should not allow FFS. If you don’t like FFS now,the technology is only going to advance. Maybe you should get fellow tournament anglers to lobby against this technology
@LoganWolf1984
@LoganWolf1984 Жыл бұрын
FFS is definitely hurting the lakes I fish especially for Crappie. Also, each tournament I fished in over past few years has been won by FFS and not the fisherman. I have been on boats with it and used it, and it definitely gives a clear advantage to the total number of fish caught. Another guy said it.... FFS is like a salt block in hunting.

We need more PROS , and if they would stop worrying about ruffling a few feathers they would get on board with this banning , they need to realize our bass fishery is in desperate need of a fixing , in years to come if this does not get fixed we won’t have to go try to catch bass , cause right now that’s all it is we go try , but most of the time our fishing is no good , why , why is that , cause our fishery is damaged , an it will not be much longer and bass fishing will become a thing of the past if the technology keeps pushing the envelope, guys all bass fisherman need to wake up , wake up now and let’s all get behind and be with this banning of this new technology

I liken ffs to game trail cameras... as sportsmen, do we hone our outdoor skills in fair chase 🤔 or use high tech cameras, sonar,drones etc. ? Large groups like humane society, defenders of wildlife, Sierra club have successfully led anti hunting legislation and public opinion against sportsmen. It's called "fair chase" . In my state of Arizona, trail cameras, and drones are now illegal. Fishing/hunting by bag quota only is just another form of commercial harvesting .

I'm not going to ding you for being a little too broad in each category because as a whole it's correct. But I'll use match the hatch as an example. If an angler matches to closely the hatch it's to their determent. You have to standout in some fashion, whether it's larger or smaller and even wounded. You've got to stand out. Crayfish this is true also. I've even rigged a fluke flat instead of up right, little or no weight cast into where they're busting shad and let it sink like it's stun or dead. It stands out as an easy meal. That's my match.

Keep beating the horse of FF sonar Randy. I have the good fortune to live on a northern lake with tons of weeds. I thought that might insulate me somewhat, but some recent advances in AI and machine learning I fear will create sonar and sensor based tech that is make even deep weeds less of a safe haven. Bass fishermen should go the route of ducks unlimited, pheasants forever, Muskie, Inc..and hook up with the tree hunger and the outdoor lovers. I don't that happens. I'm pretty much a live and let live kinda guy, but I'm done listening to bass fishermen whine about pressure on their lakes as they video game fish and treat fish as a non-scarce resource.
