The DC and Jon Jones rivalry is the best example of losing the fight, but winning the war. DC lost the fight, but would cement his legacy as the first UFC fighter to defend 2 separate titles at the same time. Jon Jones would win the fight, but prove DC right by tarnishing his legacy time and time again after that fight.
@xryezv2 жыл бұрын

What Rev said makes sense. Jon didn’t tarnish his legacy as most people (including me) have him as the p4p goat. Not even just top 5, but #1. So DC didn’t win that war. The war that he did win was the one outside of the octagon. He proved himself to be a much better father, husband, and person compared to Jon. He has everyone’s respect and is winning at life whereas Jon keeps getting in trouble with the law for various reason. So even though DC couldn’t beat Jon at fighting, he beat him at life.

While it might not have been as heated or genuine as other rivalries, this was a competitive tease of a match that spanned 5 bookings from 2015 to 2020. Out of all of the hyped fights I've been excited for since I first started watching UFC fights, THIS was THE fight. A prime Tony, and unstoppable Khabib, and could even be argued that a win here would have been "Khabib's first legitimate competitive win for his padded career" depending on who you ask. Again, maybe not a legit rivalry, but surely it has some merit. Tony has since lost his best fighting form and Khabib is retired and helping other fighters find their spot in the MMA world.

I enjoy watching the Diaz brothers fight. But I don’t think either of them has ever accepted a loss with grace and respect. Well, except Nick’s last fight. But I think everyone would agree he probably shouldn’t have even been in there in the first place. And Nick himself probably didn’t expect to win. So that one kinda doesn’t count.
@madgavin75682 жыл бұрын
On another topic. I think we can all agree the 5 year suspension Nick got was bullshit. But Nick's appeal did work and he was allowed to compete as early as 2016. But he seemingly just... stopped caring... because he never got booked for a fight, never made a callout, there weren't any rumours he was going to fight, he even got in trouble by USADA for refusing to report his whereabouts. All this despite being free to compete, we missed out on Nick when he could have still been fighting in his prime when there were several good matchups. A Conor fight to avenge his brother Nate, why wasn't that ever on the table? A rematch with Robbie Lawler when they weren't years past their prime, a rematch with Carlos Condit, a fight with Wonderboy. Such a wasted opportunity if you ask me.

I think an example of a good "rivalry" is Colby vs Usman, or even Conor vs Nate. The shit talk was fun, the fights were awesome, and there has been some resolution. In both cases, the fighters gained each others' respect once the fights were over, which to me is the perfect resolution. I don't wanna see a third fight for either matchups, then it would start to become exhausting. But where it stands now, assuming there is no third fight, I'm happy with both rivalries. Of course, Colby is has to push for a third fight, since Usman is the champ, and Conor/Nate will probably push for a third fight, because of the crazy payday it will be for both of them, but I think both rivalries have reached a satisfying conclusion.
