The first level was cute. You're getting chopped up by the saws and spikes and then put on a conveyor to be cooked by the fire bars before being fed to the chain chomps but you jump off at the end through the pipe. That's how I interpret it anyway.

14:30 I would think they made the block invisible so the Magikoopas couldn’t delete the P-Switch before it was activated

My French is ancient, but the level at 7:14's title seems to roughly translate to "Trust nothing". means none/nothing. My guess is that means "have confidence in" so it'd be "have confidence in nothing". Also > are quotation marks in French. EDIT: Looks like I could have just kept watching to see that you translated it. Well, enjoy the French lesson then, those who read this.

This is all speculation, but it's probably this way because you can't accumulate points, and more importantly lives, after a level ends. For example, if a level drops 1-UPs on you after you've touched the flag pole, they don't get added to your total. By giving the player points from touching the flag pole one frame before the level ends, or perhaps on the same frame, they will still count towards your total as they happened in the level.
