10 is the perhaps the most interesting take on the character. Everything he becomes later on is set up in probably his first episode. It's interesting that he seems to resent his immortality, but also has vanity issues and wants to not regenerate (seems to be a trait after post Family of Blood which makes sense seeing as how he went through what John Smith went through).

I’m pretty sure he would not want to regenerate no matter what. That vanity was always there, as soon as he was “born” (I don’t know what the right word would be). Other than that I completely agree. A lot of people are critical of David Tennant’s portrayal as the Doctor being too human but that’s what makes him my favorite.

My favourite moment for 10 is the Master's death. The moment that redemes quite a disappointing finale. Its so nostalgic how Ten describes all the things the Master and him have done together I just start thinking about every Pertwee and Delgado story. The Doctor looses another potential source of family the Doctor is on his own again, last of his kind. But he's also selfish here. He doesn't want the Master live to redeme him or make him pay for his crimes but just so HE has someone else. The Master tortured Jack and the Jones for a year, hunted Martha, killed people and Ten doesn't focus on that.

I like how people think that episode was Goofy like the master wasn't literally a James Bond villain like look at the way Delgado is dressed looks like blofeld and it makes sense when you realize that three is basically a spy and the crispy Master is something out of a horror movie and horror is a big element for four so yeah if you take zany 10 of course the master is going to be Goofy honestly people say they wish Jacobi would have stayed but I don't think it would have worked he's a war Master he would work better with the War Doctor despite the fact the War Doctor hadn't been invented yet God what I would give for for three seasons of palm again and a series of movies following the time War with night of the doctor serving as the opening of the first one and us having Romana 2 the War Doctor the war Master fighting the time War

You know, something I really want, maybe for big finish to do, or Titan Comics, or something, is to have a multi doctor story, for every doctor, between then being plucked out right from the end of their first Adventure, to right before their last adventure. For example, the first doctor being plucked out of time, right after an unearthly child, and then a separate version, from right before the 10th planet. Big finish already kind of did that, with the sixth doctor, in the wrong doctors, but I'd love to see it some more!

Also, to add to the how sad his incarnation is, Tennant's incarnation, in universe, the shortest life he ever had. It can be estimated that he was only this incarnation from 3-6 years based on numbers given in the show (9 told Rose he was 900 years old and 10 gave us 903 in "Voyage of the Damned" and 906 in "The End of Time), so he went through a major amount of hurt in only a few years. Sam compares 10 to 12 and we know that 12 lived longer than than that (if we are only talking about physical and not mental age (because mentally the 12th doctor was more than 4.5 billion years old thanks to his time in the confession dial ("Heaven Sent"/"Hell Bent") and the number would be ridiculous), we know that he spent 24 years on Darillium with River in between the stories "The Husbands of River Song" and "The Return of Doctor Mysterio" and a little under 70 years - that could be wrong - working as a professor and it can be assumed that he lived for a lot longer than that) and his trauma made him not want to regenerate anymore. I'm just saying, it's a surprise that 10 could get up in the morning.

Ten isn't angry at Wilf for getting stuck; he's angry at himself because he already knows he's going to rescue him. You're right: Ten was never going to abandon Wilf. He knew from the very first second he saw Wilf trapped in that glass box exactly what he was going to do. Because that's the kind of person Ten was.

I feel like, given how different Tennant is compared to the rest of the Doctors in terms of selfishness and vanity (whereas all the others tend to be more selfless and accept their deaths, but 10 finds an out to keep his body, and when he regenerates a second time, throws a tantrum) the other Doctors should treat him differently than they treat others. Of course this is just my opinion, but I'd love to see him treated like the War Doctor was, given how Tennant absolutely did go too far in The Waters of Mars. I guess having other incarnations bash on a fan favorite doctor wouldn't go over too well with the fans, though, but I'd LOVE to see it.

Interesting! But ultimately 10 died nobly and disowned his meta crisis for actual unforgiveable acts. Many Doctors tried in vain to change history, he was vain but still absolutely cheated by life. 12 treats him this way in The 4 Doctors, but Day of the Doctor rightly has 11 be the one scrutinised. Other incarnations probably moreso pity 10.

I have to disagree with what you said about the family of blood. I do agree that he wants a normal life but in that story he really doesn’t want to do that with her. He is using the fact that he looks like the man she loved and lost in order to have a companion which will stay with him and love him in a way he could never really love her.

Great point- which is why 10 turns off the charm so quickly...but I also think the throwaway manner in which he suggests it is somewhat real. He WAS John Smith. So what John Smith wanted was what The Doctor ultimately wanted. Either way, it’s flippant and callous. Just another example of the Doctor awkwardly exploring the line between mortal and immortal like he did all the way through series 2! The fact that we can even debate that level of nuance speaks to how great a script it is

DAVIS oh hell yeah. It is easily one of the greatest doctor who scripts ever written. I think that the way it brushes over the doctors asking of her may have been done in order to allow everybody to have their own theory.
