Great movie. Would listen to the main theme, for two years, in the morning, before leaving, each time that i would travel to another country for a month to work as security guard in bars and shop. Lastly, fun fact, did you knew that this movie was the ,, gate keeper '' before few years later, legends like LOTR followed. The Bulwaif's actor (the blonde tall Nordic prince who dies in the end), he was the voice actor for Ulfric in Skyrim. Boromir's actor, was the voice actor for Martin from Oblivion. Success or not, the movie had it's echo effect in years ahead.

I second this recommendation, it’s really underrated. But there are a bunch of movies from the’90’s that were good but failed at the box office for whatever reason. Now, they mostly fail because you can tell from the preview if you will like it or not, and most people are turned off by the box office picks.

@joshuawood1436Ай бұрын
Yes, we knew that, what we didn't know was that Arabs had a thick Spanish accent. We also knew that Vikings had their own written language, and had much interaction with English/Russian Christians, and knew about religion. We knew they were mercenaries, and raiders, thsi movie taught us nothing.
@chrisg2739Ай бұрын
@ it’s not a history lesson it’s entertainment. Saving private ryan was a great movie yet it was complete fiction. @joshuawood1436Ай бұрын
@@chrisg2739 I will quote you directly, " A lot of people don’t realize that the Arabs and Nordic explorers interacted quite a lot." So, you touted it's historical accuracy as a selling point. Then you chafe when i point out it's numerous flaws in that category. I am not entertained by someone clearly Spanish, with a extremely thick Spanish accent, pretending to be Arabic. Look up the term, "suspension of belief", it is required when enjoying "fiction", and the glaring defects like having someone extremely Spanish pretending to be Arabic destroys that ability. Apollo 13 didn't have Jackie Chan in it pretending to be an American astronaut, so your analogy is moot. That was one of many, many, many flaws in the movie. @@almost_harmless Who said anyhting about accuracy? How is it even remotely plausible that a Spaniard would be cast as Arabian? I enjoy hearing histories of filmmaking, however I'm not wild about people getting some kind of satisfaction out of a film doing poorly at the box office. Just because something doesn't rake in a huge sum of money doesn't make it a bad piece of work. Blade Runner. I certainly can understand John McTiernan having a negative view on his experience making the picture and quite possibly he may have made better decisions, but this is a film that in its final state I quite enjoy. What really erked me was the narration saying that Jerry Goldsmith was known for Total Recall and The Mummy, they seemed to go out of their way to choose not his bigger scores to describe him. When I think of what Jerry Goldsmith is known for I think of the three Rambo movies, Alien, Medicine Man, Papillon, several Star Trek films, The Omen and Basic Instinct to name a few, before I think of the aforementioned two scores. It's reductive. And those scores are not bad, nothing that man does ever is but they are not what he is known for. I seem to remember a winner of the Presidency walking out to Jerry Goldsmith's score to Air Force One.

Are you saing I am glad movie failed in box office?
@gregoerboru40795 күн бұрын
To a degree, yes. But, moreover it seems to be the contention of the video that the film is sub par and had there not been interference from Mr. Crichton that the film would have been good. It seems to revel in the fact that John McTiernan made only one film after this one. The word Failure being in the title would seem to suggest a negative viewpoint toward the piece rather than positive. Whether you are glad it didn't do well financially or not is more trivial to me, I'm more concerned with the storytelling and is it a worthwhile and complete work. Certainly in sports whoever has the most points wins but in storytelling or a form of art, the financial rewards of such work don't necessarily define its quality.
