That rear glass is $700 new nowadays. Stainless trim...price is no object LOL. Did you remember the pedals and mounts for them?

My first car was a 64 Corvair, so I love watching your videos. But seeing that that forklift manhandle the donor was painful -- like watching Grandpa fall down a flight of stairs and break his leg! Looking forward to you getting the new transmission in.

Hey, if your changing your car to a 4 speed, you need the rear cross member. The standard transmission cross member has a cut out because its longer
@LN997-i8x3 ай бұрын
Flipping it over was a waste of good body panels. Also, you should have grabbed that '64 rear leaf spring, they're worth good money to EM guys.
@benbencorvair90713 ай бұрын
@@LN997-i8x I understand that but the deal I made was just for engine and trans stuff. Honestly did not think of resell value, I did leave that leaf spring there.

That car is cleaner - less rust - than my 65, what a shame.

Im a little confused. Did you say three speed or four? Also the gasket leak under the oil filler tube, ( i dont know what its called) but that thing is warped? I had a leak there and put one of the blue ones from cal corvair, cheap, and it works good. Also that doner WAS a 63. Keep us updated
@benbencorvair9071Ай бұрын
@@davidp187 I thought it might have been a fourspeed, was going to take it either way. Yes that thing (also don't know the official name) 😅. The larger lower part that the balancer is part of is a bit uneven and I tapped the bold holes when I was younger and less experienced, may have had 1 or 2 not straight causing a leak? Yes the donor was also a 63 but the mechanical was 64. Had the leaf spring and carbs were 64. I'll make an update video soon!

Sad that so many Corvairs are left to rot in the weeds. You should come the Lone Star Corvair Club meeting Oct the 12th in Round Rock.

Let me know if you still want a 4 speed transmission.
@benbencorvair90713 ай бұрын
@@graffet Do the 4speed bolt on to any manual trans differential? I would really like that extra gear but with this little motor I have, I wouldn't get to enjoy it much I think. Plus someone made me feel better saying the 3 speed is more unique!
@graffet3 ай бұрын
@@benbencorvair9071 you do have to have a differential to match 4 speeds, I can probably get you one of those too but its probably going to be a 3.55 ratio. The thing that kills the 3 speeds for most people is that the gears aren’t synchronous so you can’t use decompression from downshifting to stop in an emergency.

The one you flipped is a '60 or '61. Nowhere near a '64.
@LN997-i8x3 ай бұрын
It's either a '62 with '63 front trim on it for some reason, or a '63 with '62 belt line trim. Definitely not a '60 or '61, judging by the master cylinder. Strangely, it also has '64 rear suspension.
