The Death of George Pelawa is tragic but he is the most 80's pick I have ever seen. The guy at 18 looked 30 which was the trend in all those 80's teen movies. Casting 30 year old's to play teenagers. Hopefully at this state, he is some GM of a Hockey team in heaven winning championships.

I'm disappointed that you didn't mention the top 2 picks, who both have interesting stories and were even traded for each other at one point. Jimmy Carson was supposed to be the big piece Edmonton got back from the infamous Gretzky trade, only for him to want out a year later. And while he did have a good career, I think it's safe to say that he was no Gretzky. While Joe Murphy is more of a tragic figure. Having a decent career after leaving the team that drafted him and even contributed to a Stanley Cup championship, only to suffer from concussions (as well as post-symptoms), substance abuse and even became homeless after he retired.

Feel bad for Joe Murphy. Brain injury ended his career and was/ is homeless living on the streets

The greatest player who was drafted but never played was Taro Tsujimoto. Hands down.

Lumme is "Loom-may" and Odelein is "Oh-dell-line." Sometimes I think we need some sort of "hockey player name pronunciation" channel on KZbin.

No mention of Scott Young? He had a pretty solid and long career and even won the cup

I think he won 2 cups. 1 with Pens and 1 with Avs. Very underrated player. I recall him playing against my Wings during the rivalry with the Avs. Hit 40 goals once too.

A Re-draft of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft would look like this: 1# Brian Leetch - Detroit Red Wings. 2# Adam Graves - LA Kings. 3# Vincent Damphousse - New Jersey Devils. 4# Teppo Numminen - Pittsburgh Penguins. 5# Jyrki Lumme - Buffalo Sabres. 6# Ron Tugnutt - Toronto Maple Leafs. 7# Joe Murphy - Vancouver Canucks. 8# Scott Young - Winnipeg Jets. 9# Darren Turcotte - New York Rangers. 10# Jimmy Carson - St. Louis Blues. 11# Rob Brown - Hartford Whalers. 12# Tim Cheveldae - Minnesota North Stars. 13# Craig Janney - Boston Bruins (he got the same pick!) 14# Zarley Zalapski - Chicago Blackhawks. 15# Bob Corkum - Montreal Canadiens. 16# Tom Fitzgerald - Calgary Flames. 17# Vladimir Krutov - New York Islanders. 18# Anders Carlsson - Quebec Nordiques. 19# Johan Garpenlov - Washington Capitals. 20# František Kučera - Philadelphia Flyers. 21# Tom Bissett - Edmonton Oilers. NOTES: The 1986 NHL Entry Draft was very weak. Only 6 players had a fine career in NHL and on international ice, with Brian Leetch the only HOF level player who should in retro perspective been the undisputed 1# selection. 17-21# are players that never had an impact in the NHL, BUT-BUT would non the less have solid hockey careers in Europe and in international championships with lots of gold medals, silver medals and European league's titles. Vladimir Krutov alone was a goal scoring machine in the USSR days of the "Big Red Machine", but due to alcoholism it ruined his career afterwards.

Of 17-21, Garpenlov had the longest career, which would last until 1999-00.

I’d have Scott Young above Adam Graves. Edit: not necessarily at #2, but Young in top 5.

Hopefully Vincent Damphousse will join Brian Leetch in making it to the Hockey Hall of Fame one of these days.

Neil Brady though not sticking around in the NHL for a long time, has his name in the books as the first goal in Sens history in their inaugural game of the 92-93 season. Sanipass was involved in the infamous "Punch Up in Piestany" and was from Big Cove New Brunswick Canada and was as tough as they come.

George Pelawa is 18 in the pic? He looks 35! Neil Brady has one distinction to his name: first goal of the franchise Ottawa Senators in their NHL return.

Jyrki lumme has a tricky name. I commend you for trying. his last name is pronounced Lu-may not loom. It's definitely part of the reason why I love the game of hockey all these crazy names
