Maybe try "Knights" if you want a black main character. Although It's not set in Japan, the main character does deal with a lot of discrimination and fear. There aren't any real black stereotypes and the main character is definitely not comic relief.

This is definitely a place I would love to look at when I start finding work after college. I'm currently an animation student while working on a few projects right now outside of Uni. I work specifically in storyboard animation and black people, even women in specific (who are even more scarce), are in dire need in this industry.

Japanese animation studios is not work you want to do. Its grueling work with almost no free time, you practically live in the studio, and with shitty pay on top of that. Japan barely does most of the animation anyways, they outsource to korea. And also be ready to start at the bottom, hentai, low budget stuff etc. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!! WATCH SOME VIDEOS THAT DOCUMENT ANNIME STUDIOS!!

If you have the talent, and the will, then do it. No race owns anything. Nothing is yours. Just because you popularize something doesn't mean you get to own it. Second, for the last 20 years, all I've ever heard was ''If you want a black anime, make it yourself." This dude is in a position to do it...and you still got beef? @@RikXtreme4 I have seen some 80s,90s, early 2000s style animation with alot of detail and the characters (white,black,asian) would look like how you would expect in real life all varied from the art style of the animators themselves. If anything the black characters with said features would get censored or edited depending on the complaints of a certain group. Remember mr popo from dbz and that jynx pokemon just to name a few? And not gonna lie, I've seen some black men in real life who looks like afro from afro samurai and uncle ruckus.

I guessed that he is from the east coast U.S., I was thinking Philly or NYC but it was closer than I thought, Patterson N.J., I go there often. Its not a city that lends itself to upward mobility for black males, however it can't stop greatness as dude and other black men have excelled far beyond that place.

@@noir935 While that is true, the demonym "American" could be anybody. So I suppose using black (or African) instead of American. But I ain't trying to make it a big deal

Plus, there's not a lot of businesses nor companies that are ran by people of color (us blacks for this instance). Sure, barbershops, gas stations, electronic stores, etc. Those are white owned corporations. It's actually good to hear that it's owned by a fellow brother, which is ultra rare to hear about.
