Great video. Used a two hand in tennis when playing competitively but it feels so much more awkward with a small paddle. The reach difference is dramatic. However I recognize the angles and stability that you get with a two hander.
@HeavyAndLow5 ай бұрын
I think using both given the situation is best as long as your mind can process quickly enough.

Thank you! I used a one hander in tennis, so had to teach myself the two hander for pickleball. It seems the more and more reps I get, the more comfortable it feels. But you're right, the reach different is big, and the swing has to be so much more compact for pickleball.

Wonderful guide! The inclusion of solo drills to practice these shots is very helpful. I have some questions after watching the video: 1) When do you tend to hit a more "flat" versus topspin backhand drive? Are you using topspin further back, and more flat if you're hitting down on the ball? 2) What does the swing path look like for this shot? Are you mentally trying to rotate your hips through the ball, or are trying to extend your drive straight towards the net, and having the rotation occur after contact? 3) What does the contact point look like for this shot? Is your paddle angle relatively flat, open, or closed? Does this change depending on how close to the net you are? Thank you so much!
@NicholasWade_PB5 ай бұрын
Thank you! There's a lot of times when you can't find someone to practice with so always good to know how to get the reps in on your own. 1) I'm hitting flat primarily when the ball is higher than the height of the net, so when I have a ball that bounces higher or a high volley I can really hit down on. This is because the balls that are lower than the height of the net I need to get up and down more. Also utilizing topspin when I need the ball to dip more or put pressure on, so topspin for aggressive drops, dinks, passing shots. Flat for flat dinks, high volleys, resets. 2) Low to high swing path, really focus on rotation of the shoulders and using the left arm to generate more power, and to brush up the back of the ball for topspin. Rather than rotation of hips, for me it's about weight transfer. Loading on my back leg and then transferring all that weight and stored energy through the shot onto my other leg. Also getting setup behind the ball with a stable base really helps with rotation and generating power. 3) Contact point out in front every time, for drives try and set up as early as possible, tracking the ball as it moves, this will allow you to have the same contact point every time. For paddle angle: Drives (Closed to generate topspin) Drops (Open for flat and for topspin but brush up back of ball to generate topspin) Dinks (Open for flat dinks and for topspin but brush up and come over the top at end). Hope this helps!
@Tekel4085 ай бұрын
@@NicholasWade_PB Yes, that is a huge help! It would have taken me so many hours of drilling to think you should hit topspin drops and dinks with an open paddle face. I come from table tennis, where 99% of topspin shots are made with a closed paddle angle, no matter the shot you're trying to make. So it hasn't always been very intuitive transitioning. Thanks for your help!

well done! great video! you look like a natural w/ your non-dominant hand tho...not sure if this is that easy for many others (as you suggest, first start using the non-dominant hand...this is hard to do?). so....in 2 handed BHs, your power and topspin/brushing comes from the non-dominant hand whilst your dominant hand is more there for feel? this sounds hard. i'll need to practice it more...but it's interesting.
@kabnis20223 ай бұрын
For the 2H BH drop, should you transfer weight from the lower body like for the closed stance 2H BH drive or it all in the upper body/arm brushing motion?
@josepinchero2 ай бұрын
so w/ the 2 handed BH...you're turning (using) your hip rotation only w. the 2H BH drive..but not the volleys. is this correct?
