@alchemist20483 жыл бұрын
They tried and gave a shot for a big one ,but failed. Honda is known for cheap/mid valued cars . Imo , if they slowly climbed the model/performance ladders and launched sport cars at a step each , the modern NSX would've still held the legacy of the 90 NSX and sold well. They just got back into the game too abruptly , it was years when they last released a supercar and I think if they launched good performing sport cars(not talking about the tuning market) and held their position and reputation as luxury/sport cars brand, the modern NSX would've sold well...

Agreed. Once you use it a few times, it's really easy to use without looking. The three most common buttons are the easiest. Same here. The A-spec may not turn heads, but I like it being that way. My A-spec is well-rounded and always spawns impressive responses if I bring a friend. I've driven several BMWs, and while I can certainly get better performance out of them, I still chose the TLX because I found the car to be much more friendly from the start. There are a few weird aspects with the infotainment system, but I moved past them within a week of ownership. I used to drive a Subaru Outback, which is rated specifically for safety, but I actually feel safer in the TLX because the ergonomics are easier and reduce how long I get distracted if I need to handle a phone call or change the music. We're obviously talking about completely different types of cars here, and that's a reasonable argument. However, I believe Subaru(and most other brands!) could do a better job of designing the controls favoring quick access by the driver, which then helps return the driver's focus back to the road faster. Acura definitely hit a grand slam with the TLX, as well as the further performance models.

As I’ve watched most of Doug’s videos over the years, I’ve noticed a quick , heavy steering rack = fantastic handling. Any car can have a responsive steering rack, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it has great steering. There are many other components that go into that, such as steering feel, corner exit, suspension tuning in relation to steering/cornering and so on. And to your point, it’s also very difficult to give a proper verdict when you push it around an on ramp and drive it on the highway. Doug isn’t who I go for when I want to understand driving dynamics. He’s who I go to when I want a thorough overview of a vehicle’s features. And I suspect it’ll always be that way, which is fine! 🤷♂️

@MrTresto3 жыл бұрын
@@WakanaGojo86 Also, this car is NOT rear-biased. SH-AWD is awesome, sure, but it's not rear biased, it only sends more power to the back when needed, it usually sends more to the front (which is perfectly fine), and adds torque vectoring in turns if you accelerate out of them. I guess it kinda acts a bit like it was rear biased where it counts, even though for fuel economy purposes, it's pulling from the front with less drivetrain losses. If your audience is German performance car lovers this is a good review, however those who desire Reasonable Luxury and performance at a bargain price might find that this is the car for them. The TLX is about $10,000 less than similarly equipped cars. I figured that $10,000 would buy about 45,000 miles worth of gas for the TLX, to sat nothing of the cost of maintenance of most of other "performance" cars. You are the only reviewer that does not like the road holding and handling. I believe you expected the TLX to be a track car. That is not what Acura was designed to be. The track car buyers want super fast cars that will drift the corners and sound the part of a race car. Most luxury car buyers want a reasonably fast car that is quiet, comfortable and handles well on the road. Other reviewers have commented that the TLX is a car that almost nobody can drive hard without getting in over their head . I remember when the first NSX was introduced it was said that it was the kind of a car that a business man could drive fast without killing himself. I think that the TLX was conceived along that line of thought.
@Troy-fv9uq3 жыл бұрын
Its not a bad car, however their are a few flaws it doesn't have that its rivals have. Acura doesn't offer a 360 surround view camera, no Digital dash, no heads up display, no rear heated seats, and no Touch screen (so much easier than a touchpad). The German luxury sport sedans has these options.
@marco305993 жыл бұрын
@@Troy-fv9uq however, to get those "options" in a german luxury sport sedan you have to add it "a la carte" as an add-on to the base model which will bring the price past the asking price of a Type-S or even Advanced Package TLX
@sbfhawk43433 жыл бұрын
@@Troy-fv9uq Yeah I have a Macan GTS and i get alot of those options but those were not free buddy those cost well over 20000 over the 75000 price. The GTS fully equipped like mine had a sticker of 92500 Dollars man. So they will charge you up the Wazoo for that Okay Buddy. Now this Acura Minus the Heated seats in the back which nobody uses. My kids dont use them in the Porsche they wont use them in the Acura either. The only thing is the Heads up display I would of like that but there is a Heads up display port that is prewired as the other non Type S TLX have included in the TLX tech package that can easily be fitted for Alot less then 1500 hundred bucks. You also do not want a touch screen for many reasons number one safety you start reaching over to the screen its too far for you to be reaching to touch the screen when your are in the middle of driving its stupid. The Acura has the touchpad mouse pad on the bottom with a Nice elegant Wrist rest pad. Its very intuitive. Another thing too the only M series car that is hard to beat is the M3 with the XWD option which is the fastest of the bunch but that car cost about 95000 with all the bells and whistles. This Acura with the 3 minor bolt ons is getting 4.4 o-60 once the tune gets up to speed that will probably end up in the 4.0 0-60 making it fast as the M5 and M3 respectively with the Competizion package. Not too mention the Reliability as opposed to the BMW. In my Book Acura has a making of legendary offering at an very reasonable price.

Conflicting title with the way it was reviewed. That said, here is my opinion of the Type S (if anybody cares) coming from an enthusiast who's logged many miles in GT3's, M2's, R8, etc. Now into my 50's, I was looking for a car that wouldn't beat me up on the daily, but would also give me a great driver's experience when called upon. Being a BMW guy for so long, I drove the m340i. The B58 is great but that's it. Steering disconnected, exterior/interior dead average. I went and drove the type S at the local Acura dealership. The first turn I took blew my mind. The whole "it handles like it's on rails" is literally what this car does. I decided to order the car and just had my first week in it, here are my thoughts. Appearance: there is not a better looking car(imo) in this or a class above. The surfacing is incredible and I can't believe what they did with the hood sheet metal. Interior: Loving the look of it, seats are very supportive, and the drivers perch is just about as good as it gets. Not loving the touchpad as I got so used to the I-drive wheel in bmw's, however, it becomes easier everyday. Engine/sound: it pulls very well down low. If you floor it at 85, she doesn't pop, but moves along quite well. I love the sound and definitely adds to the experience. Transmission: In sport mode, it might be the most aggressive transmission I've ever experienced. It's just hungry to shift at any moment and very quick - maybe a bit too aggressive for every situation. Steering: the ratio is short so it's very quick off center - doesn't get much better than this. Handling: Flat and rotates with surprising ease as the SH-awd feels like rear-steer - plenty of mechanical grip from the double wish-bone (i would have gone with a wider rear tire, maybe a 275) Highway ride: Out on the open road it feels phenominal! Buttoned down is an understatement as I can't say enough about the quality feel of this car. Anyone who says the car is too heavy has not driven it. It was designed to be the enthusiasts daily, not a nurburgring/track record breaker. All of the settings within the adaptive suspension work as intended. Spec is Platinum white with performance wheels. This car at 55k is the best new car experience out there for the money and level of refinement, hands down!!!

I had a Honda Prelude. An amazing car with four wheel steer and Vtec! Let’s hope Honda is moving back in the right direction!

Hey Doug, you should check out a used Acura RLX sport hybrid. It's one of the biggest sleepers and now they are super cheap. It has a combined 370 HP and luxury features that compete with the e class and 5 series. The powertrain is based on the nsx.

I agree, I’ve been hoping the same. Test drove one and loved it, but couldn’t afford it so I bought the RLX, non hybrid model, IMO it’s a great car.

Can't wait to see the tuning results from this motor and how much it can handle. Hopefully the transmission can handle the torque after it's tuned

Those 2009-2014 Acura’s were trash looking, glad they’re making them good looking and sporty again

Except the interior still looks like it's from 2009-2014.

@@dm1660 Yeah, hopefully some company decides to do it. They would need to make a new front and rear bumper and new headlights and tail lights. The current front and rear bumper can easily be modeled into the concept versions if you have the skill. I unfortunately don't know how to work with fiberglass otherwise I would have did it myself.

They seem very safe, early this year my friend got into a crash in one. His younger 10yr old brother was in the front seat and the frontal and side airbags deployed and he was completely unhurt

3:30 🤔how did the light turn red, if you were within range. You're literally next to it?
@jasondeland54873 жыл бұрын
Because you have to hold the engine button for it to do anything. He just pressed it quickly, so no command was technically received. If he had held it then it would have blinked green after a few yellow blinks
@JDMKEV3 жыл бұрын
or the car is already running so it won't turn green again cause it's already on

He may have used a key fob from a different TLX Type S just for demonstration purposes for that 3-4 second video clip. Doug frequently borrows new models from dealerships to review so it would be pretty easy to get a second key fob
