I got the XR as my first bike and have used it for 18 months now on my daily commute, riding for 42000 kms to and from Brussels. It is a great all rounder bike and not to impressive for a first timer like me, because of all the electronics and the ergo's. It cut's through rush hour like a much smaller bike, then has no troubles on the cruising bit with the cruise control set to 160 kmh.

How I envy having roads like this to ride on. Beautiful. The southwestern US had some great rides, but first there’s hours on the interstate to get there, and back. Why I need a sport tourer.

Great vid! It’s a fun bike! I really enjoyed my XR - still maintain its a cracking bike if you can only have one!..especially if you’re a tall chap like us (I’m 6’3 16 stone) That being said I did swap mine in after 5 months and got a R1250GSA which I absolutely adore, supremely comfortable and faster in the real world on the backroads I like to ride (as torque is all low down and smoother suspension). I got a bit tired of the discomfort and frantic-ness of the XR - whilst amazing for blasts.. found it very difficult to have more casual chilled rides as the bike just isnt happy unless it’s being ragged.

They also said do 150 miles in rain mode to get used to the bike. Makes sense I suppose. I didn't because the throttle travel was so long. They fitted the power plug at the first service. After that it was in dynamic mode all the time 😜. Hey, the TT is on this year............

I watched your rain soaked trip on the KTM. I had no idea that you did it with sports tyres. I must admit, I would have stayed in the bar drinking excellent German beer. Always buy the bike you need. Not the one you lust after. You'll probably be faster on the BMW due to confidence and less extreme power delivery. Keep safe.

You make some great videos. The scenery in Germany is amazing. I’ve owned 3x premium BMW motorbikes and I switched to the KTM Superduke GT last year. BMW are great bikes and I feel my local dealer is “warmer” (friendlier) than my local KTM dealer. I’ve had my ignition switch fail on my GT and I just caught it within a few days of my warranty ending. That said I love the thrill factor and sound from the KTM and I’m just not ready to switch back. However I still like the GSAs and I like red bikes.

Rode an XR found it bland , only got interesting when revving the nuts off it and by then you are doing illegal speeds plus the vibrations through the bars and footpegs made it a non starter. Although I will agree about the dealer network.

Noice vid Drives 👍. Agree 100% re. the Autumn colours, looked great in the evening light. Cracking stills too - that industrial complex in the background reminded of a Pink Floyd album cover! Oh, and those roads... we can but dream of billiard table smooth roads here in Blighty. The Bridgestone S22 came on the bike, very good tire in summer, disaster for colder temperatures. Then two sets of the michelin power 5 after that, grip just as good as the S22 and slightly better in colder weather. Still a sports tire which I still lost confidence with in the winter months, understandable I suppose🤷‍♂️

That’s subjective, my pillion didn’t like it. So if most of your rides are going to be 2up, I think you should look at something like the KB1600. After all the XR is an RR in disguise..

Shaun - XR seat vs GS seat ? GS obv super padded and comfortable, how does the thinner looking XR seat compare on longer rideout's ?
@thelikeablerider8800
@thelikeablerider8800 2 жыл бұрын
Like you say completely different seats! I like the XR seat as you sit in it rather than on it, very comfortable for me on a long run. Only down side is that it encourages a neutral riding position, so might prove difficult to hang off on track days.

Can you take out the induction acoustic insert on that model? I did on the 16 XR and the induction noise was awesome! Have a gander, in front of the air filter, 4 cones surrounded in foam to dampen the noise. I do miss my XR but the new models seat??? Thoughts?

Is the measurement of stone a well known unit in English speaking countries? I can handle pounds by now and can even tolerate the odd feet, yard and mile (though don't dare using volumes in cooking recipes). But stone seems to be the weirdest of them all!

@@thelikeablerider8800 really looking forward to try the XR next season. But I'm not sure my butt will fit the seat. 6.4' and 18 stone. But it will be either this or the previous gen 1290 SAS. Replacing silent end cans by noisy after-market ones is THE reason why roads in Germany (and other countries) are more and more frequently closed for motorbikes during weekends. So thanks for replacing your silent stock end can (NOT !!!) Why the hell does that culture originate, which imposes that a motorbike HAS to be noisy ??? This way, you're ruining quite a lot of fun for quite a lot of bikers !!!
@thelikeablerider8800

The Cobra that I've replaced it with is perfectly road legal according to german Road law!! Take your over opinionated comments, and leave them on the videos where people are running full race exhaust systems (the illegal ones) on the road!!! They are the people you should be crying at, that are ruining your fun!!!!!!

I think the main problem is more people riding like twats and speeding inappropriately that causes most of the hate TBH! I think you should target your annoyance at those people, and the actually illegal exhaust crew, if you must....! (from someone who hasn't had an illegal exhaust on their bike, ever!!)

You sir are incorrect. THE reason why roads in Germany and other countries are closed to bikers on the weekend is because some people believe that their opinions and happiness is more valuable than anyone elses. The complaint is that bike's are too noisy and it's ruining the enjoyment of my fun at the weekend sitting in my garden. My compaint is that I like noisy bikes and enjoy riding them where I'd like to of a weekend. I will admit that knobheads with straight through systems riding at 150mph + are asking for trouble but you know what? In a free society it's their choice and no-one should have the right to tell anyone else what they should be doing as long as they're within the law. And even then, just because it's law doesn't mean that it's correct
