My daughter and I did the inverse on a Porsche customer track day. I stomped on the brakes (yes it was clear) and we enjoyed the sensation of being completely weightless, hanging off the seat belts for several seconds as we went from 200 kmh to 0 in an impressively short distance. Launch control in reverse. I don’t know why testers don’t emphasize more how incredible the braking performance is in these cars.

I’d love a 911 turbo s. I’m stationed in Germany and have a 14 mile no speed limit w/ barely any traffic both ways trip to work & back. About 5 minutes from the house it’s balls to the wall in my BMW 330i. Rain, shine, it doesn’t matter. Best road ever and no falling apart dirty US roads where anything could be laying on the road.

The reason why I would get a Turbo over Turbo S is if I was to keep it long term: 1) No center locks to deal with. 2) Can get the steel rotors replaced for free by FCP Euro. 3.) Can get a tune for a few grand to get 100 hp. Currently looking for a 991.2 Turbo though. I want the physical buttons and a gear lever back.

Yep, I agree, no centerlocks, no ceramic brakes, no PDCC. Also the plain 'Turbo' badge is more in-line with the school Turbos which I like, 'Turbo S' just seems excessive. Below 5,000rpm the power and torque output is identical. The Turbo does have slightly smaller turbos (compressor wheel is 59mm instead of 61mm) than the Turbo S, which can be seen as a benefit, it likely has slightly less turbo lag.

It looks like Matt got smart and finally started including Zack in the expensive car reviews. Beforehand, Matt would (be-knowingly to only those who paid attention to this) only have Zack review cheaper cars/homemade builds, and whenever a nice expensive car came around, Matt would always do them. Matt then hit a plateau on his channel, and since he started including Zack with more stuff, even if it’s just Zack in the passenger seat, his channel has started growing again.

or..... Zack had a day job and was not available to work with me at TST (for very little money), and practiced reviewing whatever cars he felt like because we gave him an open forum to do so. Now, in 2021, he works for TST full time because we have gotten successful enough to pay him a full time salary.

Truthfully, if you are “ not made of money” then you are not getting either the Turbo or Turbo S. Most people cannot begin to afford even a base 911. (I understand what Matt is talking about-just conceptualizing this in realistic terms for the general public)

It was awesome to see the adverse conditions increase the drama of this one take, I Love the 911 turbo, every iteration of it just pushes the boundaries of uncompromised performance. Sure the GT models might be more exciting with their insane styling, exhaust note and N/A engines, and if it was my money I'd pick no depreciation-mobile (GT3 RS) but the turbo is definitely the flagship.

The difference from Turbo to Turbo S is the 2mm smaller Turbo (compressing side). I think also the fuel injectors are different, but I am not 100% sure about that.

I think the base Turbo is a kind of a hidden bargain (in Porsche terms) if you keep it light on the options and skip PDCC, PCCB and custom leather crap. Then it's a ~25k difference between TT & TTS, and ~40k between similarly light-optioned TT and C4S. An optioned-out C4S, which I see quite a lot, gets price-wise too close to a Turbo. But most buyers can't resist spending money on options so once they spec a TT, it's so close to the TTS that the TT doesn't make sense anymore. And people want the best of the best which is why the Turbo S outsells base Turbos by A LOT. Really enjoying these two takes, more of them please! Looked like afterlife out there in the canyons lol.

Funny that you mentioned the leather stitching is perfect. The first thing I noticed is that it’s NOT perfect, around the Sport Chrono dial. That would definitely bother me after spending $11K for full leather.

The likely first buyers of these cars choose the bling options like you see on this car, because they can. They don't care about money, they just want what they want, and can spend whatever to make it personalized and nice. As the second owner of a Turbo, I was flabbergasted to discover that the first owner spec'd out more than $12,000 on yellow stitching, yellow gauges, yellow seat belts, exterior colour matched interior trim, leather seat backs, leather seat back inserts, and more leather on the sills, doors, and dash. The dealer swapped the stock dash hard-mounted 'key' (on/off switch to the left of the wheel, not the one kept in one's pocket), to a matching 'racing yellow' key as a nicety, but from Porsche, it's $127 if you have to buy it lol. Do I think the car looks awesome? Sure do! Would I pay to have all that on a new car? Heck no! But someone did...

Agree, go for the Turbo S. For me it must be open top for driver connection (ex biker), I have a 997.2 Turbo S cabriolet. The 992 Turbo S is likely to make me dissatisfied by all counts they moved the game on with this one so will avoid...for now 😊
